Hi Alex!,
Not sure if you checked your email, but you should have received one from itch/our jam. We have some prizes available for the jam participants, so make sure to claim a game key if you’d like one. Make sure to take a look and fill the form soon!
Nice submission! I love the game design and could see this being very fun to play physically with friends. It was very satisfying trying to construct a hand of all nines by the end of the game—even if I was playing against myself (Chrome with NVDA versus my phone)! Perhaps you could add CPU players who have different strategies or difficulties?
There are many opportunities for improvement with screen readers, even NVDA:
<h1>, and all others could probably be<h2>elements. You can use classes to make them look how you’d like instead.<header>element so it gets a landmark region that’s more easily jumped to with a screen reader.aria-atomic, so that may mean that the entire contents are getting replaced, rather than new children being appended to it.Element.focus()to move the user to the right place after performing actions like drawing and discarding cards. Currently the user needs a pretty good mental model of the page and must navigate by hand between actions or when it’s their turn.aria-disabled="true"to indicate that it can’t be clicked. Or you may consider using a generic<div tabindex="0" role="button">for the cards—when a card is hidden, you could remove theroleattribute. For the labels, I might usearia-label="Hidden card 2"andaria-label="Hidden card 3".I think this is sufficient to enhance the screen reader experience. Take these tips, dig in with the screen reader, and you’ll find other things that I haven’t mentioned either. Please continue to iterate on this and share your progress, because it certainly has potential!
Congrats on making a submission, even if it is just an initial prototype.
I struggled to play the game using VoiceOver on Mac OS X - often the screen reader would lose focus on the game, and moving and interacting with different elements didn't give enough affordance or details on what I was focusing on. Some additional details about what the content on the screen is would help a lot here too. If you end up doing more testing and getting it working with VoiceOver, I'd love to give it another try!
Thanks for sharing, I'm glad to get this feedback because I wasn't aware that VoiceOver would be a different experience from NVDA which I was using. I'll be sure to try it out and make it a better experience.
Nice job making a multiplayer game!
I could test it by myself opening two browser screens. However, I am unable to understand the rules as they are written. Particularly what the game mechanic is here. How am I supposed to decide whether to draw a discard, draw from the deck, or call it? Why are two cards hidden and why should I remember them? And in what way do I interact with the other player?
But mechanics aside, the lobby works, the game seems to work, and everything seems quite accessible. Nice submission!
P.s. I did notice there are a bunch of hidden input elements that can receive focus but are not visible on screen. Like in-development tag that is clickable.
I connect and wait but there's nobody to play with.
Would it be possible to add a copy of the rules for the game into the game itself while you're playing? We accidentally started our game prematurely, and couldn't figure out how to get back to the rules. If you refresh the webpage while you're already playing, it just resumes the current game. It would also be nice for the ability to abandon a game and start a new one for the same reason. Thank you!
Hey! I just played this with another gamer and it was a bunch of fun. There were however a few bugs.
First, we didn’t get to finish the game because at some point I clicked the button to end the round, and then I finished my turn and then he played his turn, but there was nothing else to do in either of our screens. So the game wasn’t over. By memorization, I think I won.
Second, once I create a room, I can’t exit that room. So when he created his own room, I had to switch to an anonymous browser window, or clear the cookies, to actually try and enter his game.
Another thing that I would have liked was to have the instructions available while I play the game, because I didn’t quite understand what my goal was and how things worked, it was a bit of experimentation. Besides that, it’d also be cool to have an incremental steps tutorial.
The last problem I found was with the screen reader, it felt like the announcements played in chronological order but it should have been in counter-chronological order, so I get the most recent notification before I get the oldest one. Because then I have to wait for a bunch of messages before I know what my opponent just did.
I think this is a nice concept. I’m not sure how it plays with more players. It’ll probably be more fun and it’s something I’d like to try once this game is maybe a bit more fine-tuned. I’d also love to have some sound effects for it, if possible. Keep up the good work!

Thank you for putting the effort in and trying it! I want to make it a good game for the blind community, so I will fix those issues when I can.
Like Joozey said, we can’t play the game. We have a message saying:
The game isn't public - gotta change a setting I think!
