The narration through the menus was far too slow, it got in the way of the otherwise engaging storry, if you sped that up or used TTS then the menus would disappear leaving the good stuff behind.

Using linux, I wasn't quite sure how to start this game. I figured out I had to run the nw file. Then it crashed because it couldn't find a font, so I had to install that. Then it worked. You might want to add a readme to how to start the game.

Congratulations on making an audio game from start to end! I like the content warning you added at the start, and you as the developer talking to us players is a really nice personal touch.

One thing I would have liked is if the choices could be repeated. Also the pacing is very slow. Having an option to speed up the narration would be nice but also for example there is a lot of silence before I get to hear the choices. Also I clicked the mouse to select the window and give my choice, but the mouse click apparently selects option B. Might be confusing for people.

Content-wise I think being killed when you make a wrong choice is a bit strange. It feels like a cheap way out to end the run. If I make a choice that hurts someone (even unintentionally) I think it would be more interesting to give the player more choices to escalate or de-escalate the situation, and make them feel the weight of that decision. Being killed just feels being wronged.

Nonetheless, I think it was an interesting experience. Narrating every dialogue is a lot of work, the amount of choices can grow fast in this kind of system. Would be interesting to see an iteration where the pace is a little faster, and the impact of your choices more worked out!

So, I died at the first choice for choosing “incorrectly”. When the “wrong” choice wasn’t even in any way unkind; if anything, I chose it because I did not want to flirt with this random woman I at that point knew nothing about beyond that my character knew her from before. I didn’t want to be creepy. As a result, I just … got stabbed.

I know this is a jam game, but that is not good storytelling.

I know I should shrug, pick the other choice, and move on. But the speech is so painfully slow that it makes me feel like the narrator believes blind people are stupid and also can’t understand normal speech. I know it is unintentional, but in a game about manners, I somehow feel like I am being made fun of.

Developer(+1)

Hello Mayana! Thank you for playing and getting one of the ends. So sorry you didn't like it but I appreciate your honesty. Yess! I know that the speech needs a lot of improvement, we are not english speaker and we were afraid that with our accent the story could be not understable. We'd like to think that this is the first step for something better and with more options. We're sorry to hear you feel inconfortable with the first choice, "the bad manners" in this case is because the wrong option is a lie, but yeah we need to polish that.

I can't fix the issues with the Mac and Linux verison, please only try only the Windows option. My apologies.

Boas!

En canto á velocidade do audio, é excesivamente lento. Un secreto. A nosa voz de Yuri está acelerada a 1.25 para que fose máis dinámica sen perder a súa esencia.

Non está nada mal para ser o primeiro xogo (especialmente o tratamento do audio, que está moi ben). Moitos parabéns e a seguir traballando!! Nós tras a Jam imos pulir as mecánicas e visuais e sacar un proxectiño algo máis redondo :)

ENG Hii! What an interesting game in its premise!! I want to know more, I’m going to play other decisions. But I had a problem. When I’m at home and she talks about how she can give us some contact, the sound of the selection of choices comes in, but no voiceover sounds after more than a minute of waiting. If I click on one side, it repeats the entire conversation, if I click down it exits the game… I think it’s some kind of bug, I don’t know.

I’m going to explore other options, but this type of games need to be much more dynamic, especially if you’ve already played several failed choices. Using a button to skip the audio is almost essential, hehe.

As for the audio speed, it’s excessively slow. A secret. Our Yuri’s voice is sped up to 1.25 to be more dynamic without losing its essence.

It’s not bad at all for being the first game (especially the treatment of the audio, which is very good). Many congratulations and keep working!! After the Jam we will polish the mechanics and visuals and release a slightly more rounded project :)

I'll try again on Windows, but just a heads-up that I could not get the Linux build to run. OS: Debian 13, x86_64.

After unzipping, none of the files had executable permissions, so it wasn't clear what the main executable was. It seems like "nw" is the executable, so I ran:

$ chmod +x nw
$ ./nw

I get some logging output that culminates in a few errors:

[45762:45762:0309/214405.029325:FATAL:nw_content_renderer_hooks.cc(48)] Failed to load node library (error: libnode.so: cannot enable executable stack as shared object requires: Invalid argument)
#0 0x7feab3d2c43c <unknown>
[45735:45735:0309/214405.077051:ERROR:sandbox_linux.cc(377)] InitializeSandbox() called with multiple threads in process gpu-process.
I tried "chmod +x lib/*" and ran again, but got the same errors.

I really appreciate you including a Linux build at all, so I'm happy to continue helping test it. In order to be able to play for now, I'll try the Windows build!

I was able to get the game running on Windows just fine :-).

Fantastic job on your first game, and welcome to the hobby! If this is what you were able to accomplish in four days, I can't wait to see what you make next year. We need more diverse perspectives and stories in gaming, and this was a very charming departure from what I'm used to. I think you found a great gamejam to start in!

I deeply love story games, and I'm thrilled you decided to tackle some mature subject matter. Also, given the topics of the story, I appreciated the warning at the start about being in the right emotional state to enjoy the game.

I was also able to trigger a very pleasant easter egg where I found my Héroe character screen, complete with PV, PM, and PT stats. Adorable.

If you decide to work on the game more, or create more games in the future, I'd love for the story points to go into even greater detail. Who was that outside the store, and why did they do what they did? This is still very impressive for four days of work on your very first game, so I hope that you keep it up, and that I can play more of your stories in the future.

Nice submission! On my first play, I cackled when the music suddenly changed and you said Welcome to your first choice! Expectedly, I chose the wrong first choice, sending me back to the menu screen. While there, I noticed that this was created with RPG Maker, which is super cool to me, because RPG Maker 2000 was my first game engine!

So I tried a more well-mannered second attempt. I appreciate how the third question subverted my expectations: you think this is a game about being understanding and asking deep questions like you’re also a therapist, but sometimes thoughtful questions might backfire!

I agree that the audio is far too quiet and could use some mixing, but I have a sound interface and was able to crank it up to play. My only other criticism is how the voice acting is too slow for my liking, so I lose attention quickly and have no way to repeat it when I miss an important detail. Yet, I understand how this is actually pretty naturalistic.

I think RPG Maker is a great engine, and—from about 80 hours of making a small project in RPG Maker MZ myself— I believe there are ways to make its text boxes accessible to screen readers, which you could still fully voice yourself when they display. This might be the best of both worlds. If implemented properly, it would let folks skip past dialog too—like the tutorial and other paths in repeated playthroughs.

Hi shiftBacktick! Woah!! we are very very happy that you could play it and get some endings. Thank you so much! It was made with RPG Maker MV, and I had so much to learn about it yet(we only could afford 4 day to finish it). Yes, totally agree, the voice was too slow and low, we are not english speakers and to make it understable we sacrifice a natural pace of talk. Sorry if it was boring or heavy to continue because of it. I, as the developer, I had the problem that I couldn't find a plugin to skip the voice and also for some reason, yet to be discovered, the save option don't work very well sometimes, like if you save twice only actually keep the game the first time.  And finally, the decision of the change of background music was to feedback the player that now the story stops, this pause it to make the choice, like now you in other level, the interactive part (extradiagetic). I will investigate about the accessible text boxes, thank you for the info. And thanks again to play it and we wish you to finish well your RPG Maker MZ project! Good luck and a big hug.

Wow! I had no idea this was only done in four days! Congrats on that feat!

To be clear, I loved how “extradiagetic” the tonal shift was! Consistency is key, and you nailed that aspect of it! And it certainly wasn’t boring—it just needs tightening up.

My RPG Maker project is finished, thank you! It’s nothing to call home about. I wanted to revisit the engine and write a character-driven story, which is outside my usual comfort zone. If you search for Super Friendship Quest in the Steam workshop, then you may find it. But honestly, the intention of the project wasn’t to explore accessibility at all, so please don’t feel obligated to check it out! (That’s why I published it under my personal Steam account instead of the “shiftBacktick” brand.)

The Mac version tells me that the application "Game" can't be opened.

Hi! I appreciate the effort making this game, and I am interested and curious about the story. But I am sorry to say (honestly really sorry) that it’s very difficult to play this game, because it feels like a lot of control is taken out of the player’s hands. What I mean by this is that the tutorial is spoken by a human voice very, very slowly. It’s hard to focus and follow through it, and it also feels slow. I think this is worth fine tuning and looking into, because the experience is quite hindered by these things. I am streaming some games and I have streamed your just now. I’ll share a link to the VOD later, and I hope this might help some. Maybe we can even get to experience the game fully after you make some changes, if you’re willing and interested to do it?

Congratulations on your game!

Hi Patricia! We just watched the video and yes, totally agree. The most important error was how slow is the voice. Sorry if it was hard to play it. We aren't english native speakers and we were afraid that if the voice was fast, the accent could make this experiencie too incomprehensible.  So we put a lot of efford trying to improve the pronunciation and well, yes, it become too slow and not natural. We can't in a near future improve this but we had learn a lot. So, next game will be better! and we thank you for the feedback, we appreciate that you take time to try it and most important to give us an honest opinion. Thanks a million and a big hug!!

I'd like to try it, but it's password locked!

Developer

Oh no! Sorry! Can you tell me where ask you for password? when you tried to decompress the folder or when you touch the game icon? Which version you download: Windows, Linux or Mac? We apologize for this inconvenience.
