I don't know why this is so captivating. Excellent work all-around.
I love this so much, especially the procedural snail names and colours. I don’t know that I’d personally need gambling elements/any kind of player control to enjoy this more–it’s just really nice to watch these little guys go for gold!
Loved the art style, and was surprised by how much I was enjoying watching the races play out! Always felt a bit sad for the snails that were trailing way behind ):
YES I love pico8 games! This one was fun to watch AND the art was really polished. Great job!

Inspired take on the theme, love the aesthetic, the golden snail intertitle especially! Great entry (and great use of pico8 too). Hope you enjoyed the jam! Very curious how many names you had in the set...
I did enjoy the jam! Thanks for hosting it -- and thanks for your kind words.
To answer your question regarding the name pool:
If you want to see all the possible names, download the .p8 file from the game page and open it in PICO-8. You can use the free Education Edition if you do not have or do not want to purchase PICO-8 (but I highly recommend it -- best $15 USD I ever spent).
Saw this one really early and had a lovely time with it! It was a good and simple one that motivated us on!
Interesting game concept. The art looks nice, and the game design all the randomness is good programmed.
I haven't heard of a 0-player game before, but it's a fun concept! Reminds me of the Marblelympics, lol. Do you have any plans to expand the concept into a [positive integer]-player game?
I don't plan to implement a 1+ player version at the moment -- I was far more interested in the zero-player concept than anything else. But I might make a version down the line that implements the gambling system people have been asking for, and if I do, it would be more of a sequel to preserve the hands-off flavor of this title.
Visually pleasing and always fun with a bit of gambling! I'm gonna say what some have already pointed out; a way to lose money would send this game all the way home!
Love this idea, all of the snails look and behave uniquely to them which really sells the concept. Loved the UI showing who won in what order. Really cool entry, made me want to gamble!
I really like the art, the sound, and the visuals, I think it’s a perfect game for a fun drinking night :D
What can I say! It's really nice! It would have been nice to have a little “gambling” system to play around with, just for fun. That said, I'll definitely save this for a few nights out with friends.

This game taught me my wife is much better at picking winning snails. Sounds and visuals are very nice, and i like the transition screen. Seems fun to play with a group. Love the name pool. RIP Dugnutt.
Slow and steady...
I would appreciate adding the ability to lose my home and livelihood in some kind of gambling situation.
Right, I wanted to bet some coins or something, haha
omg, I really vibed with this. also points for being a pico-8 game! low key wanted to bet on the snails! very cool!!
Cool idea! I had a surprisingly fun time trying to guess what snail would win!
Not gonna lie but this was fun, even though I had nothing to do. Cute take on the theme, although I’m not sure it aligned that well. Maybe a theme more like “no input” or something would have fit better, but themes are always interpretive so anything goes. Would have been nice to be able to at least guess the winner. Nice job!
I went with the "Enemy-controller" theme (#7). I tried to approach it from the perspective of treating the game controller itself as the enemy, and therefore created an experience in which no controller needs to be used (beyond the bare minimum necessary to start the program).
