How does your game fit either (or both) genres?
Our main character Selene gets magical girl powers from a fairy companion.
Chosen theme(s) and relevant explanations
Rust - On her journey through her boyfriend’s mind, Selene comes across several sharp and rusty enemies, and several environments are close-up photographs I took of rusty objects. We gave our main antagonist corrosive powers which she is using to hurt her ex, just like she did when they were together.

Very cool VN! The story and writing were excellent, aside from a few minor punctuation mistakes. Loved the artwork of all the characters, and the blink animations are definitely a nice touch that helps make them feel more alive.
The addition of minigames and RPG elements was definitely a neat evolution of the VN experience! The combat system was simple and nice, although it felt very RNG-dependent towards the end (sometimes I'd just miss every attack and get wrecked). Still, I mostly got by with just increasing health and physical attack, and restoring health when needed.
The game came with a bunch of quick- and autosaves already in the folder, remnants of testing I guess? Either way, the ending was quite sweet and I enjoyed this little adventure a lot!
Cute characters and story!
The combat was a bit clunky on web with the attack taking a bit to actually happened after clicking.
On a side note, I spent so long on the sliding puzzle. I am terrible at those
I’m terrible at sliding puzzles too, but after solving it 10+ times while bug testing, I’m actually not too bad at them anymore! XD
You forgot to clean up the save data :P
Since there wasn’t really an explanation about how the starts worked, i ended up just putting all my points into physical attack and oneshotted everything.
The music was nice, the art was nice, i did notice that every character sprite legs were cutting and i could see them just floating around.
Physical attack was the GOATed strategy while testing haha.
I noticed the character legs floating as well, however due to our last minute programmer change, it was deemed a non-issue.
Thank you so much for playing!
i like the art! the character designs were cool, and the music was cool too. it’s a very solid entry, but i do have to be honest and say i dislike the gameplay mostly the combat.
right now there’s no real strategy except pressing one button and winning. there’s no reason not to spam your points into physical attack because magic doesn’t really scale with the points. after spending 2 points, your physical just becomes a better magic attack with no mana cost. there’s also kinda no reason to use shield or healing putting all your points into physical attacks lets you oneshot/twoshot the entire game.
so my feedback is: show the enemy HP, and make every enemy more unique. like, give them more varied attacks, passives, and make their attacks inflict debuffs or other things you need to work around. instead of just the 4 options the player has, let them collect different attacks that do different things, like inflicting statuses, etc. because right now i don’t think the combat is very interesting, and none of the attacks really have any impact. i think as the game goes on it needs to get more complex, and that it isn’t just about damage scaling, it needs more complexity and strategy, and there isn’t really much strategy right now. it just keeps repeating the same enemy over and over again, and thats fine but for that to work i think something needs to change, like the player or the music track, the puzzles were cool though, i liked them! most of my frustration was that i accidentally clicked the scroll wheel, which catapulted me to a previous part of the stage and made me lose a lot of progress anyways, i’m sorry that this review is so harsh. i do want to say that i REALLY liked this game, and that’s why i’m going on and on about my issues with the combat system. the story was good and the art was really cool, the characthers are charming theres alot of effort put into this game, cool game!
not harsh at all! :) I appreciate all the helpful suggestions and points you bring up like only needing physical attacks to win was a thought also shared with the team. It’s just that by the time I took over programming, there wasn’t enough time unfortunately to rewrite the battle code to accommodate these kind of changes, but I totally would have if i had more time lol
Lovely character design. I'm not an RPG expert, but this felt approachable and enjoyable.
Very solid entry, congrats!
First of all, congrats! I'm not the biggest fan of Visual Novels or JRPGs, so it's a bit hard for me to judge, but the art style is very cohesive. The music could have used better curation—and if the tracks are original, they could use a bit more polish.
On the plus side, it seems like a lot of fun for fans of the genre!
I was most looking forward to playing this one. Did not disappoint! I really liked how you took magical girl x very relatable events and made something very enjoyable out of it! The sprites (especially Stella) were so adorable! I like the battle system too.
Thank you so much! <3
