Certainly a very "retro" game! I could 100% see myself playing something exactly like this in the computer lab back in elementary school. The only thing missing was some PC speaker beeps for jumping and shooting.

The graphics were definitely very accurate to the DOS era. I liked the enemy sprites, but I think the player could've been a bit bigger and more detailed to match the style of the enemies. It's not like you're dodging much in this game anyway!

Having only one hit point and no checkpoints was a little rough, especially since it was often hard to tell where to go without taking a blind jump and dying a couple times. Fortunately, the game was very short.

Overall, definitely very short and simple, even for a gamejam. Still, nice job!

Thanks for your feedback.

I thought about adding more levels, but work commitments prevented me from doing so.

I noticed there was a sound option but there isn’t music on the game, so dunno if that was a bug or a missing feature.

The fact you can only shoot to the right DEFINITELY feels like a bug.

I think the combination of really high floaty jumps with most jumps being blind did not help with the experience, it was a constant death because i couldn’t see bellow combined with having to restart at the start of the whole thing.

Developer

I didn't include the sound feature because when I tested it on my phone, it caused an annoying lag, so I didn't want to risk other users experiencing something similar.

I intentionally included features like the right-hand shot and the floating jump to make it challenging.

Anyway, thanks for your feedback.

Bit brutal cos no checkpoints, and basically one sound when you die. Game basically hates it's player. Cool cover art though.  Cool little game.

Developer

Thanks, I wanted to make it challenging. That's why I didn't include any player aids (no extra lives, no energy levels, and some tricky jumps).

For the music, I composed a tune similar to Lavender Town from Pokémon (something that would be maddening), but when I tried playing it on the mobile version, it caused lag (at least on my phone), so I didn't want to risk it happening to anyone else.

Nice game, simple.... but enough there to get you to replay, after each (frustrating*) death. the full screen option in browser mode seemed to cut off the screen even more, but once I realised that it was playable, and fun, really love the title graphics too.

*but in a good way

Developer

Thanks. If you play it on your phone, it looks much more like a Game Boy.

pretty brutal but it has its charm. Reminds of the nes mario game.

nice project, well polish, the silence makes me dont like it so much. well done! congrats

Developer

Thanks. I thought about putting background music on it, but it was causing a strange lag (at least on my phone). I preferred not to risk it happening to someone else.

I love the Game Over background effect! Very spooky ¦3

Developer

Thanks, use of resources built into the software itself.

Cool little gameboy-like game! However, I had problems with the camera controls, it's often hard to see where you're going.

Developer

Are you referring, say, to sometimes jumping without knowing where you're going to land?

If so, I intentionally designed the way the jump is created to increase the game's difficulty.

Cool use of the gameboy aesthetic! Does that come from an engine or is just a stylistic choice?

Developer

Thank you, I used a language called arcademakecode, which provides a graphics platform similar to the Game Boy. I specifically wanted to use this language to take advantage of this feature so that the game simulates a Game Boy when played on mobile devices.
