So my experience of this became rather interesting near the end

If you attack while transforming, you enter a limbo state where you have the state of the small form, but the control of the magical girl form

this also means you cannot die unless you transform twice to back to the default state
funnily enough it also has the hitbox of the small state allowing you to walk the narrow paths

likewise if you attack after transforming you can do things like jump which I assume is a bug as it only works after attacking

All that aside though, interesting game!

Had tons of fun with this one! The design and animation of the protagonist is absolutely adorable, and there's loads of wonderful detail put into small things like the hurt animation and the snake transformation sequence. I loved the voice-acted story segment and the game's overall sense of humor, too!

The background art for the level is gorgeous as well, although the main grass tileset looks a bit generic and the slopes are slightly misaligned with the regular tiles. I liked how the progression kept looping me into the main grassy area, but it was often a bit hard to tell where I needed to go each time due to everything looking so similar.

I really enjoyed the huge speed and massive jumps of the protagonist. I think the game nailed the exact right amount of acceleration and deceleration to make controlling the character a bit more challenging and interesting, without making it too slidey or hard to make precise jumps.

The generous checkpoints helped here, too! Some of the platforming towards the end was a bit more difficult with the sparser checkpoints, though fortunately, nothing took me more than a few minutes of attempts. However, I do feel like I managed to get through the long moving platform ride near the end only by sheer luck!

The abilities were maybe nothing too unexpected of a typical Metroidvania for the most part, but they all felt nice to use with the character's already great baseline mobility. The snake transformation was a great use of the theme, and I really liked how it combined traversal, stealth and evasion in one ability!

I do wish the player's attack was a bit bigger though. I guess the short range was probably part of the game gently nudging me towards preferring to avoid enemies instead (considering how many of them there were at the end). I just think it'd have been really funny to see the protagonist punching things with an even more cartoonishly oversized fist!

I only noticed a couple minor issues. In one spot, the camera got left behind and I had to go back and jump in a different spot to get it to follow. A few times, my character would fall through the ground when respawning at a checkpoint, and on one occasion I got stuck inside the wall and had to reload.

Overall, a really nice little game with one of the most fun-to-control protagonists I've had the pleasure of playing as in this gamejam! Great job!

Story was quite funny!

The game is definitely a snake girl metroidvania. I have to say that the rather imprecise movement combined with the need to do super accurate jumps led to many frustrating moments. I did make it to the end, but it was a journey. It is kind of like one of the other comments here say: It may have been better to have this character as the protagonist of a super meat boy type game, or to make the controls more precise (and the level design a bit more forgiving!)

Great character design and very charming world!

Very fun metroidvania! The animations of the magical girl python and the Taboinga enemies are very cute, and the story made me burst out laughing. Even though the description says less than 20 minutes of gameplay, its taking me a longer time to complete it, but I think its just a skill issue :D

This game might be the most stuffed version of trying to play as someone riding a bike but only understands stopping or going at full speed, no inbetween, where you will just keep dashing towards immediate doom, but boy the story part of this gamejam was fucking stupid funny, it did make me laugh, and i am now a true fan of Random ass Python.

Despite what the entry page might make you think, this is a completely real, very playable Metroidvania game with a magical girl, it’s just that the magical girl is actually a Python that a weird ass wizard decided to fill with magic and cocaine.

Of the 30 jam games that i have played so far, i can definitely say with complete sincerity, this is both the best interpretation of Python as a theme, and also a complete mix of a Metroidvania and Magical girl, this is in fact the first game where the magical girl transformation is an important feature for the metroidvania.

Toboinka enemies are cute, too.

It would be a filthy lie if i changed anything from this vote.

The story cutscene is very charming and made me laugh! I like the idea too, I tried to play through but unfortunately it was giving me very bad motion sickness, so very sorry I couldn’t play the whole game.

from what I did play though I enjoyed and think it controls pretty well besides the speed I think it’s just a tad too fast or maybe zooming out the camera and making the camera move less might help it appear slower to look at at least.

The art work is very cute and has well polished feel! :)

Really liked the game!, the art was cool and i do love moving so fast, though i think the attack stopping you doesnt work well with the quicknes,s i think making not stop you + making you invincible for a few frames would make it better, make it so instead of methodically stopping in a speed game you have to time your button presses right to utterly demolish your enemies, other than that cool game!

I'm going to preface this with the fact that I am not good with games this fast and it gives a me a headache but that doesn't mean I didn't like it nor that it's bad! I got to as far as the portion getting the wall jump, and I even found some of the secrets on the wall haha. First off, I love that story cutscene. It's a great fun way of introducing the characters and story, and with graphics and artstyle (very kira kira) that good, it's just really fun. The level design itself was pretty difficult for me haha.  Makes that playtime feel like triple for me XD . I also found that some areas were really dark! Although it makes sense in a cave scenario, it made it hard for me to play prolonged. The screens rapidly moving to adjust to the next room was also really jarring to me. I appreciate that there are some checkpoints in areas when you've progressed enough! I wish I was able to finish the game myself but as of now I am having a massive skill issue in the area I am including in this review hahaha. Regardless, I think this is a wonderful game and I sure had lots of fun playing it. Thank you for making it!

V Most evil area that I'm stuck at

Art style is cool, but not gonna lie game feels like you were going to make sonic and slapped magical girl on top of the game last minute.  I enjoyed separate button for story, it even had voice over haha and great stylish art.  Cool game even controls are too hard for me character just feels not under control with this rapid acceleration

I loved the art style and sound in this one! It's a really cool premise and I think with some more polish it can be fantastic. A few notes:

- The screen constantly zooming in and out and panning left to right was disorienting. There were so many pinpoint precision jumps to make and when the camera is constantly changing positions, it feels like it's working against me.

-The level design and speed of the character felt at odds with what makes Metroidvania games work. I think that if the goal was to make a super difficult platformer game like Super Meat Boy, this game would fill that genre well. In a Metroidvania, the player should feel incentivized to explore and the gameplay wasn't quite conducive to that.

- The sneak form was difficult to use. It was sometimes hard to keep track of where I was on the screen, especially in open rooms where the camera goes wide. The jumping wouldn't work until I pushed the attack button first, and I always had to press the transform button twice before being able to revert back to the girl form. There's also some wonkiness happening with the speed. I fly along when I'm on flat terrain, but when the ground slopes downward I grind to a halt.

All that being said, the premise is intriguing and you've got a great structure here! The jumping feels great and I felt accomplished when I got the hang of the double jumping and wall jumping. I also LOVED the third piece of music that plays when you get out of the underground area. Great job!
