I liked the art and the music. I made it all the way to the end, but I found it way simpler to just outrun the enemies than to try and master the weapon I was given. I think the story could use a bit of work here too as it didn't flow really well for me. Thanks for making and sharing your game!
Short and sweet game, absolutely lovely story art and music. The enemies were a bit hard to fight with their speed, but nothing unreasonable.
nice game! art was great, and the sound design was good, i thought the voice sound fx were funny after a while since they repeated the same every time. the story was emotionally resonant, although a bit disjointed (what was the final scene at the end? it just kinda showed up without much context or i missed something big in the dialogue). the level was short and sweet so i actually would have liked a bit more! WEll done everyone!
Thank you!
We went for the "shocking" emotional ending to tell a story about about a kid that did bad things in his past and regrets it. So, the game starts in a flashback, he was remembering his grandad scolding him, that's why it is black and white. In the transition to the next scene and the following one, you can hear a heartbeat and a cardiac monitor. In reality, the kid was in a coma all this time, dreaming about his past regrets and fighting them. Then, on the transition to the last scene you no longer hear the heartbeat, only a flatline from the cardiac monitor... Then, well I don't think I need to explain what happens on the ending scene. 😅
I really liked the art !
For the gameplay, I like platformers, but even if there wasn't many platforming elements, good positioning was needed to finish the level while killing enemies. It's short, but that's not a big problem for a jam.
Music was good too.
Very cute game, definitely a good entry.
thank you so much, it was a real struggle drawing with only two colors, my minimum limit before this was 12 colors soit took me a while to nail it, will try your game too.
This is such a good idea! The story is super, sprites are good, music is good, only problem is the balancing, but that got pointed out in the comments enough. I really enjoyed it!
Thank you for the feedback!
Good music and spritework, but uuuh… the rest is ok, but not great. I hope you keep making games! Seems you just needed more time to make a more ambitious game.
Being able to finish a game without using an engine was an important personal achievement. The level design and enemy mechanics could definitely be improved with a few more days. Not having any kind of level editor is tough 😅
making your own engine is a lot of work!
I like the story but I feel the game a bit unbalanced some times, specially with a lot of enemies and you have to wait for the slingshot to charge before you shoot. Is a good entry but the may improve more on balance.
The combat action feels a bit unbalanced... It's somewhat difficult to kill enemies using the 'hold space' mechanic. However, the art is great and the level design is pretty decent.
Thanks! Well, tried to go for a more challenging combat system, otherwise the game would be pretty boring and easy if you could just press to shoot.
I speedran through one level, didn't take out any enemies, then I completed the game not knowing the game was that short. So I restarted the game, tried take out enemies, and found out that it was possible. The player's slingshot was too slow and the enemies are fast, these were factors that make me think that the combat option was risky and wasn't worth attempting. Could use some mindless dummy NPCs moving back and forth in a level, so that the player may find some uses for a slingshot.
However, the art look very good, and story is somewhat text-walled, music and sounds are fine. Good.
Hm that is totally true. The attack is indeed risky and experienced players can just speedrun through the game in a couple seconds. The level design is very simple, if it had more platforming elements or an enemy that shoots something would definitely improve it but we didn’t got time for that 😅
Thanks for playing!
