Description
This is my imagining of the two scenes described for the impression Jam: imagination #4 ||
For the first scene, I wanted to set the mood by providing only a soundscape to start, leading you through the mountain, against the machinery, and eventually to the door, which opens with the pull of a lever.
Behind the door, you behold a vast barren land, in the center a towering spire covered in machines, buildings, gears and pipes which extend upwards to the clouds, the clouds form rings around the spire, seemingly hypnotised by the large structure. The clouds pour down an endlessly heavy rain onto the rock down below. And the thunder strikes the tower, chipping off gentle pieces of stone, muffled by the surrounding volume of the Storm Colossus.
For the second scene, I didn't have much of an idea besides the fact i wanted something pretty, and calming, something that sounded safe but somewhat intense as well. So I tried something kind of orchestral (if you can call it that).
Hope you enjoyed, thanks for listening Boss!! :D

Rly enjoyed the storytelling angle of this submission. Taking ur time to settle the room and slowly moving in this audio-"book" of yours is rly nice. It may seem a bit stale for some, and maybe ye at places there could be more things happening, but is still very good overall. One of the best subs for sure.
Thanks so much!!!!
Lovingly designed track - it really feels like you intended a story and wrote each section with clear intent in mind! once the track picks up and the mechanical drums and percussion are introduced, I became a much bigger fan of it. Love that you made your own sfx for it as well, I just think they're a tiiiiny bit too loud at the end of the mix.
I've been told (and have yet to try) leaving your headphones on the desk or listening to them at a low volume to hear what the loudest sound come through from a distance. Sometimes it helps the ear blindness during jam writing, and I think this track may benefit from that as well.
oooooo! Interesting advice! I'll definitely give that a shot next time! thanks man :D I appreciate you for listening!
I love that you made your own SFX similar to what I had made for the theme.
Really neat cello composition. It makes me want to improvise/create something like this with my cello....
That's something I think I'll do, make a nice soundscape and just improvise to it.
Anyways, I love the sense of space you created too.
I think later in the track the sound gets a little smooshed. I had a lot of trouble with this myself, trying to get too much bass/size into it.
Great work.
Absolutely! Really struggled to balance the sounds at the end there haha, I spent a while on it, but it wasn't getting any better really, so it's just something I've got to practice really. But anyway, thanks so much for enjoying it man! I really appreciate it! :D
You say "something kind of orchestral (if you can call it that)" but that was some stellar stuff, the whole ambience had that really nice introspective melancholy to it like the music in Hollow Knight and Ori games have, totally different take to the storm colossus part than I did, but works well.
Only gripe I had while listening was that at softer parts the mechanical sfx overpowered the music a bit, but the sfx do work in the whole context, just was a bit sad since the musical material was great.
Good work Boss!
Thanks so much dude! Being compared to hollow knight is a hugeee compliment haha, super glad you enjoyed!
Cheers boss!
Great arrangement, I really like the build up, 6 mins went by crazy fast, storytelling was well done. The mix is nice too, the main thing I would look is your punch and hits you could definitely add some bass and transients, this should help tremendously the dynamics of the track. Very well done !
Not even sure what transients are haha, thanks for showing me another thing to look at haha, glad you enjoyed my man, thanks so much for listening! :D
A really evocative piece. I especially liked the progression and the little sound design touches with the ticking clocks, etc. Great job!
Thanks for listening, super happy you enjoyed it! :D
Well done. The strings are a nice touch, and the piano is wonderful. The balance between melodic elements and sound effects is great, not overwhelming, but rather integrated well for the scene. I think some slow panning of the ticking sound would have been nice to create variety in the track.
Thanks so much for listening boss! I appreciate you :D
Kind of hard to put it in actual words despite siting there in awe. It really has a mesmerizing hauntingly beautiful nature. The ambiance and soundscape you’re creating in the first two minutes are very believable and create a nice entrance to the main piece. Also the sparse arrangement works very well with the set up atmosphere without feeling hollow or like it is missing something. The mix is done competently well and amplifies the compositional tone well enough. Surely there might be point of improvement, but these points would be minor things since there aren’t any elements that hinder the listening experience in any way.
While this point is not part of my critique and rating. I’d recommend looking into automating panning to create more movement in the ambiance. You’ve nailed each scene by itself perfectly but (this is hardcore nitpicking and nerding out) it feels like moving from picture to picture and not also wandering inside it. So my tip would be to consider how the sound might change while walking thru the scenes. Are things moving from left to right or center? Or are things fading in and out? I think nailing this would even more mesmerize the listener in even more emersion and elevate this strong submission even more.
OOOOOOO that's really interesting!! I definitely want to get my automation game up for sure! In the second scene, I admit I didn't think very "spatially" (or whatever the correct word is), but that's a really good idea! something to add in one of my next submissions for sure! (really upping my focus lately now on the mixing and technical side of music)
And thanks so much for listening! super glad you enjoyed! I had quite a bit of fun with this one! :D
You've got some great sounds in this one, wow! The walk through the factory was great and so was that calmness with the solo strings in the second part. Very moving indeed! Great work here. Really enjoyed it. And wow, those strings are so lush! You must have some really good samples! Is it a solo cello? You hit the mood very well.
Bravo!
Thanks so much man!! yes it was a cello (plus some other strings at the other parts), it's called solo cello spurs which you can use on Decent Sampler, or kontakt if you have it! https://www.pianobook.co.uk/packs/solo-cello-spurs/ I also used I think it's called the Lewis Pyle violin or something similar to that??
