How does your game fit either (or both) genres?
It's a metroidvania game with a magical girl as the protagonist.
Chosen theme(s) and relevant explanations
We chose unity, rust, and construct. The player must unite the artifacts of past magical girls to defeat the robots, the leader of which is the Construct. The city is rusted out, both literally and metaphorically.
Team/Developer
Team Y2K (Nikki and Elisha)
Premade content
Sound and Dialogue Manager by Nathan Hoad, most of the character controller reused from previous project (made by us)

The camera movement from side to side is so fast and abrupt that almost made me puke, that was honestly the biggest negative of the whole experience.
The checkpoint where you get the double jump always spawns you inside an enemy, so you will start with two hearts if you respawn on that one.
Which also i do have to say, the HP upgrades staying unhealed when you respawn made them feel kinda useless, like they are just a momentary extra HP when you get them and nothing else.
When you are fighting the boss, the enemies that spawn will not move if you are far enough to the right, so if you destroy the two circles at the left when the battle starts, you can literally go to the right and beat the boss without moving again.
Run time: 14:44
Also Red Kris didn't get the deltarune, 0/10 /s
Nicely done! I love the desolate world. The subtle story and powerup progression worked well for me. It felt like a solid encapsulation of the metroidvania genre.
The boss battle was definitely brutal. I’m not sure if that’s a positive or negative, but it did feel like a bit of a departure from the rest of the game. Again though, awesome entry overall.
I had so much playing your game. I don't think there was anything that I didn't like. Keep it going! :)
Definitely another personal top spot contender for me! A perfectly sized game with no real weak points as far as I could tell.
I absolutely loved the story, cutscenes and music. The characters and environments were gorgeous, and the atmosphere in general was one of the strongest aspects of the game for me. I think the visuals did a great job conveying a sense of bleakness and the post-apocalypse even while maintaining a cutesy and playful art style.
Both combat and movement felt responsive and snappy, although I found myself too busy spamming the default attack to think about using the homing shot much. The array of upgrades was pretty impressive, and I really enjoyed the little bits of lore behind each item. The changing appearance of the character with each upgrade was also a great touch!
I think if I had a single minor complaint, it's that there wasn't any one upgrade that really made me go "wow," being fairly standard Metroidvania fare for the most part. Of course, a basic powerup that's well implemented is much better than a unique but janky one! Though considering the obvious level of quality and effort in everything else, I think the game could definitely have afforded to take a bit more of a risk there.
The boss at the end was brutal at first and took a good few attempts, but I finally managed to take it down and enjoy the ambiguous ending. Overall, a very well-scoped and well-executed little adventure with nothing really bad to say about it!
Thank you so much for your thorough review! We're really glad you enjoyed it. We plan to submit to Super Metroidvania Month with some extra powerups that are more puzzle-oriented :)
Great game! The metroidvania design was spot on. You could get lost but it never feels like you are wandering aimlessly. Also loved the upgrades being from fallen magical girls
If there is anything to be critical of, I guess it is the heat seeking laser not being all that useful in my opinion
Nice gam i liked the viusals. One issue is camera flips from left to right too sharp, gets annoying on eyes. And background paralax with start pops up too hard. Character is adorable and gets gear when pickup upgrades which is a nice touch. You mentioned speedrun times in ur page so expected to see something like Celeste , but pace of the game with slowly moving platforms doesn't feels speedy.
Nice game the map was well thought out and each power up gave you a sense of progression, I must admit I didn't get past the boss, I think I had cracked all but one of the tubes, on the last attempt and by that last attempt my hand was aching from the constant jumping, so I gave up, sadly I will never know the end of the story... but I loved the presentation, and the game as a whole
Great game you made here! The pixel graphics are great and really conveys the story being presented! Speaking of, I like how the lore is presented through the upgrades and the initial cutscene really helps give some background info and tie it all together. The level design was great too! I liked that the whole map looped back. There were some frustrating sections but nothing too impossible! It is kind of amazing that the dev speed runs are ~5 minutes! I think I took somewhere around 30 minutes? Including deaths of course haha. The boss fight was fun! Took me a bunch of tries before I could beat it. I kept forgetting that I could shoot upwards hahaha. Overall really solid game here! Thank you for making it! :)
I liked it! the cutscene looks really good, same goes for the cover art. There is lookahead, which is nice but it is instant which makes it a bit jarring, would be nice to have a little delay on it. also jumping and aiming shots is a little finicky, and the lock-on beam often hits walls instead of enemies in smaller areas The boss was challenging, took me a few tries, but when i beat it.. i kind of expected everything to explode, but it was a happy ending. I really loved the unity theme interpretation, the little texts about the bygone magical girls are really fun x
Very atmospheric pixel graphics. Some sections are a bit difficult. The beam seems somewhat redundant to me compared to the normal shot. I can’t progress past the point where the mushroom shoots at me from above.
