i like the core gameplay, the steal mechanic was pretty fun! and the difficulty is fair!

Submitted

Only complaint was that it ended too soon. This would actually be fire if expanded into a larger game with various "wanted" characters by physical description.

Short, fun and very nice style ^^ You did a lot with a little, that's the game jam spirit! imo anyway...

Submitted

Excellent consistency hitting as much as you could with that western look.

This game is super simple but super effective. The art style is nice and readable and the stress mechanic adds just enough pressure!

This was awesome! I really loved the visuals. It looked extremely pleasing to the eye, and was well designed. I was able to beat the game REALLY quickly my first time (I got really lucky with two $250 pickpockets). Perhaps slowing the game down a bit and only introducing the large $ amounts a bit later into the play session would extend the play duration. Overall it's a really awesome game with a lot of polish! Great work to your team.

Great minimalist concept with a polished feel, and the stress mechanic adds a nice layer of challenge. A few tweaks like clearer top-score visibility, better ways to manage stress, and more player control over finding valuable targets would make it even stronger.

Submitted

Loved this one. The minimalist style was perfectly executed. The way difficulty scales with stress was also really cool (don't stay near 2 targets at the same time while stealing lol). You  guys can really expand this one in so much ways, but what you presented was really fun, great job!

Cool idea, I didn't expect the game to look like that either haha, it's minimal but does the job.

Imo the people with the highest score need to be pinned in the main game screen, not just mentioned at the start.

Also for the stress mechanic, perhaps there could be a way to reduce that? Because right now if you stay too close to a target who ends up having no money, you're screwed cuz you have to wait for your stress to go down but you don't have time left in the level.

Really fun little game! I made something similar, but your polish and the stress mechanic really help! Great job

Developer

thanks for playing! I'll check yours out asap :)

Really solid entry! btw I was on firefox and the game worked perfectly :)

Some things I liked:

  • I liked that you bound both arrows and WASD
  • Overall feels very professional (loading screen, using the GWJ logo, fonts are very clean and high res  - and really well chosen for the game! - UI is readable and doesn't get in the way of the game)
  • Nice playtime / length for a game jam game
  • Nice sound effects
  • I like that you used the launch in a new window option :)

Some things I thought could be improved:

  • Add in controller support (even just mapping the d-pad and left joystick to movement would help)
  • It felt like how quickly I won  was largely up to how lucky I was with finding targets with lots of money. Maybe there could be some way to deduce who was rich by looking at their movements, or the event log (just an idea, it might not be that good!)

thank you so much for your detailled feedback, much appreciated! I'll keep the gamepad bindings in mind for the next jam

with regard to the targets: the idea is to find the target(s) described in the briefing in the main menu. for this jam, the targets are not randomized but ideally would be (i.e. the game would generate a new target for each session)

The game felt juicey and the concept was very cool. I think replacing the event log with the brief could be helpful!  I was too focused on the game to really pay attention to the log, but was wishing I could see the brief again. Very fun!

Developer

that's actually a good idea, thanks for your feedback! maybe the log could be flipped to reveal the briefing

Loved the art style and gameplay! The stress influencing the difficulty was a clever idea.

Developer

thanks so much!

I liked the intro and artstyle. was busted two times before i got the hang of it. didn`t check that i had to not be so stressed, or not follow the people around so much xD

The idea behind this is awesome, and you guys have managed a great deal of polish and atmosphere. Art style is fantastic and sound effects all work very well. its really fun to step into someone's bubble and see the text pop up and here them talk!

I think I found it really hard to keep all my targets in mind. If there had been more time, I think a simpler tutorial level would have been great, with slower moving targets and less going on.  A way to review targets again though, most importantly, would have kept me a lot more engaged I think, as without that I had to kind of just resign myself to losing when I'd noticed I'd forgotten.

Developer

thank you so much for the feedback! yes, I agree, there is a lot going on. originally we wanted to randomize the targets but decided to have one fixed rich target for this jam. There is still quiet some stuff that needs to be tweaked

Cool game! Love the music and vibe!

Submitted(+1)

Very cool concept! The music and art choices match the anxiety of not being caught.

Fun and addicting game. Timing the steals correctly can be a bit hard sometimes.

Developer

thanks for playing! yes, the interaction between stress and stealing is still something that needs to be tweaked

This is just my type of game. Love the minimalism here! Great job on the visuals!

Also the event log and finding the ones that have the most cash based on what they say is really good choice!

Some suggestions, something to lower stress and to cancel a steal. But other than that this can already be a full game imo.

Really great work!

Developer

thank you so much for your kind words! we were a team of rl friends making this and had a lot of fun doing it. happy you enjoyed it as well <3
