Awesome work! It has a strong Pokémon HeartGold vibe. I love the instrumentation and arrangements. It also features some very interesting and fun harmony!

Developer(+1)

Thank you! Pokemon HeartGold was actually the last game I played in the Pokemon series, so maybe I'm channeling that energy lol

Submitted(+1)

Its nice! I like the start and ending parts, the ending part specifically. Its like a starry night sky, very pleasent

Developer

Thanks!

That ending part actually sneaks in a quote from Brahm's Lullaby but with the main syncopated rhythm that I used as a mottif throughout the song. You saying starry night sky makes me immediately think of the credit song at the end of Milky Way Wishes in Kirby Super Stars (even though that's unrelated lol)

Submitted(+1)

I think ive heard about Brahms lullaby before, i looked it up and it seems like a very famous lullaby people use, So it seems familiar.

I havent played Kirby Super Star in soo long, not sure i made it though Milky Way Wishes? Probably Spring Breeze though. When i listened to that part in youre track i thought more of relaxed music you hear in puzzle games

Developer

Yup that's it!

Kirby Super Star is definitely a long one lol. But I have such fond memories of me and my bro playing that for endless hours when I was a wee lad. The credit theme to Milky Way Wishes is such peak Kirby music.

Submitted(+1)

That was absolutely fantastic! Pokemon is one of my favorite franchises and you definitely nailed it perfectly I really enjoyed it. The transitions were super clean, the composition and production were perfect and the fact that it is loop-able makes it even more suiting for the theme. I really loved the small vocal touches as well. Devastating work!

Developer(+1)

Thank you very much!

Even though I never played anything past Gen 3, I still love listening to the new town themes while I'm working. They are usually just a step outside of lo-fi beats on the chill factor lol. I think this washing my brain over with new Pokemon town themes has made that vibe permeate into my brain without knowing it!

Submitted(+1)

You obviously have some skill with production and composition. You did a good job of making everything flow well and brought in a lot of subtle sounds that complimented the melody well

Developer

Thank you!

I think subtlety is so important after the initial large brush strokes, especially when connecting sections that feel a bit jagged in their juxtaposition like I did in the middle. There's always things to be done to smooth out the seams for the listener : )

Submitted(+1)

I need to take your class haha! Beautiful and Relaxing. Love the accordion and the do bops.

Developer

Thank you so much! After listening to so much accordion in Clair Obscure, I felt I needed to do more accordion parts lol

Submitted(+1)

Very impressive entry! Excellent production and some interesting chord changes in there. You accomplish a lot in 2 minutes!

The 3 different sections do make it feel a bit more like a showcase piece than a single background piece. I’d be interested to hear them as separate tracks, especially the chill first part. But I’ve also not played any Pokemon games, so perhaps it’s an arrangement choice I’m not familiar with.

If I didn’t know any better I’d say you’re a Jellyfish/Andy Sturmer fan. You might also like Josh Fix.

Developer

Thank you! I've definitely been focusing on interesting modulations between keys lately with the chord changes!

And I can see that critique. I think Idid a bit of a Tim Follin and started disregarding the source material halfway through because of inspiration and want of doing something novel lol.

I have actually never heard of Jellyfish! But I jsut listened to "Bye Bye Bye" and "New Mistake", and I'm thinking listening to them is going to be a great follow up to binging Ginger Root's music lately! haha They also got a bit of Morphine / Bealtes / Kiss  vibes to them too! I'll also check out Josh Fix! Thanks for the recommendations : D

Submitted(+1)

For Jellyfish I recommend “The King is Half Undressed” and “Joining a Fan Club”.

You piano parts reminded me a bit of Josh Fix, so I was thinking you might dig him. Try “Bad With the Superbad” or “Random Dents, Constant Moans”.

Developer

I'll check those out tomorrow! I put Josh Fix on in the car today. He kind of reminds me of a punkier BATTLES, a bit indie-ish like Modest Mouse as well.

Submitted(+1)

This is so brilliant! I especially loved how smooth the transitions are, Bravo!

Developer

Thank you! Transitions have been something I've been actively working on lately. I'm glad it's bearing fruit now : D

Am i crazy or does this use slime rancher instruments? anyway its great

Developer(+1)

You know, another person also brought up Slime Rancher after they heard my song lol. I should listen to the ost closer. I used predominantly Native Instruments libraries, so I wonder if the composer for Slime Rancher also used those libraries...?

Submitted(+1)

This is super super nice!!! I particularly enjoyed the vocals and how nicely it looped. The pixel art is really pretty too, I'm glad you wrote about how you made it!

Developer(+1)

Thank you! I'm glad you liked it! I always like to give background to my processes : )

Submitted(+1)

Absolute peak, you nailed the theme perfectly and the track is such a vibe! Also I love how it loops!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much! : )

Submitted(+1)

This is awsome! Such great ideas and fun progression! It's like a suite for the whole game, remembering all the great places and people we've met along the way. Congratulations!

Developer

Thanks so much!

Submitted(+1)

You definitely nailed the pokemon-esque intention there!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much!

Even though I've never played Pokemon past gen 3, I have listened to a bunch of the newer music and wanted to aim for that vibe : )

Developer(+1)

I also liked your tune a lot as well! It sounds like a warm happy tune from Earthbound with a touch of Ponyo : D

Submitted(+1)

Thanks~ First time making music. Twas stressful LOL

Developer(+1)

Wow! First time? That was a GREAT first time. Keep going! You definitely will be able to make some cool stuff!

Submitted(+1)

i can tell a lot of attention went towards the percussion and vocals (especially with the portamento at the end)!

Developer

Thank you! I feel like I'm starting to be able to really make more natural drum kit parts. The portamentos in the vocals in this tune are like a sigh of relief at the end of a hard day's work : )

Submitted(+1)

this is awesome! i really like how it keeps transitioning to new parts to keep it fresh, and being loopable is a nice touch!

Developer

Thank you so much!

Sometimes I actually have to reel myself in a bit because I like to transition so much to other new parts without fleshing out other ideas first lol.

Loopability comes natural nowadays after doing so many game jams haha

Developer

I just listened to your tune as well! Nice job on the narrative in your tune. I could tell there was a clear-cut exposition, build-up, and a climax. I also really liked the use of the descending 2nd inversion major 7th arpeggio. Those made it not just an adventure but a mystical adventure!

Submitted(+1)

This was so fun! I feel like I just went on an adventure in my bedroom : )

Developer(+1)

I'm glad you got that vibe! I wanted to make a piece that felt like going through a whole day in a quaint little town : )

Submitted(+1)

I need more of this. I think you should win the jam

Developer(+1)

If you ever want to listen to more of my stuff, here's my website!

Lazarus D. Richardson

I appreciate the kind words! : D

Submitted(+1)

WOAH very cool website omg

Developer(+1)

Thank you! I still see it as a work in progress. Eventually, I want to add some animations and whatnot

Submitted(+1)

Very much enjoyed this track. The feeling of it the whole time is very nice. Also very well produced

Developer(+1)

Thank you!

I'm very much still working on improving my production. Since I started off as a classically trained composer, I wasn't really taught how to mix and master properly. I have just been learning as much as I can from YouTube and freinds : D

Submitted(+1)

what a great song! it was such a fun listen given all of the changes in the track and everything just worked together really well. i loved the drums and the vocals in particular

Developer

Thank you!

I've really been focusing on how to do modulations between keys and still keep melodies interesting since playing Octopath Traveler. I'm even starting to wonder if "genre modulation" is a thing, which is kind of what I did in the middle along with a metric modulation.

I'm also glad folks are liking my drum parts! Percussion has always been my weakness, but I'm feeling like I'm making strides with that type of writing : )

Submitted(+1)

loved the du bap bap bap lol

Developer

Thank you! Those du-wop's were something I really wanted to do for a game jam last Halloween, but they got rejected. I was determined to use them again! lol

Submitted(+1)

This just made me smile in awe omg. All the instruments and samples used transitioned through the story of someone's day is just perfect. I love how much your individuality shows in this song,  paired with the description and inspiration behind it

Developer(+1)

Thank you for the kind words!

Nowadays, my composition process is getting increasingly extra-musical. I like to write my music with concepts in mind and actually will write out what ideas I want to try next in text while I'm away from my computer, but, of course, a lot of it is just spur of the moment and happy accidents, like that sudden venture into a weird schmaltz-y dowop 40s rock in the middle lol
