The SFX and art style fit really well together. One thing that affected the enjoyment a bit for me was the difficulty pacing. I know this was made in a short jam, so totally understandable. I noticed that I found a few good angle to cut trees, I could clear a large area in just a few attempts. After that, I was mostly waiting for trees to regrow while still earning points, which felt a bit passive. Maybe you could randomize tree positions after cutting, or give the player some control over regrowth so they stay actively engaged instead of waiting. Just a thought if you plan to expand the game ?!
Notes from gameplay:
Fun little idea and I definitely think you should play with this and consider expanding it out. This is a type of game I could see myself casually playing while waiting for a bus. There's definitely room for some more complexity, different seasons, different maps. I'm really impressed by the physics of the blade. That's excellent work to have achieved in our short time frame. Art and sound are fun, overall well done!
Thank you for the detailed review!
There's a key to mute music [M on QWERTY], you might have pressed it involuntarily.
And you're absolutely right about the non impact of clear cutting everything. We thought of it a bit too late sadly...so many gamedesign parameters to balance perfectly, and not enough time, that's the jam thing I guess.
What a unique idea. I really liked it. I’ve never played anything quite like it before. You did a great job. It’s amazing how the simpler a game is, the more engaging it becomes. Keep it up. You’ve improved a lot. Congrats on the game!
Thanks a lot!
A unique approach to the topic of sustainable forestry. I was tense the whole time!
Thanks a ton!
Quite a fun game, it's compelling to try to be smart about the path of the blade will saw through to avoid young trees and gather as many resources as needed.
I really liked the music it fits the game very well because it's intense and you need to think under pressure, but I was just a bit jump scared the the first time is started, maybe a volume fade in would make it much nicer, or even changing the volume/tempo based on the number of stars or the "health" of the forest. One more thing would be pacing, I found myself waiting quite a bit around the middle of the game because I had quite a few trees stockpilled and the quests would immediately complete as they came.
Really pretty trees though
Thanks for your kind review!
You got a point with the music, a fade will definitely help, and making it "reactive" to gameplay would help game feel. You're also right for pacing, that's something we struggled for. We took too much time to build a lot of "gameplay knobs", and there wasn't enough time left to tune them perfectly.
This was fun! Real cute tree sprites. The breakout-style bounce is a clever way to make the resource management harder. Who would have guessed that hiffing a spinning blade through the middle of a forest might not be the most sustainable way to log?
Thanks a lot!
A very fun game of balance and sustainability, nicely executed! Great work!
Thank you very much!
I enjoyed the gameplay, trying to collect the right type of trees without chopping down too many in one go was challenging and fun. The music is catchy, it lifted the game to a more chaotic level . While I liked the prompts for what you were building, I’d love to see the moral meter more exposed to chance elements and the prompts to be more specific. Great submission!
Thanks for your kind review!
Yes, we also think there's some room to improve the systems, making everything more connected.
Can you elaborate on the more specific prompts part?
