Theme Interpretation
I've incorporated this by allowing the user to steal or buy new land. Stealing land comes with consequences though! Such as disease from unsuccessful attempts or unlucky draws, like isolated land that drains your wallet! I used the probability and disease wild cards from the jam in the game as well! Land can be diseased by birds or unsuccessful theft attempts. Probability plays a smaller role, where stolen land may be profitable or the opposite, so it's a risk/reward mechanic.

I did not understand what gave me the x1.5 modifier, but thought that it might be building in lenghts.. So I build a long tube, but only got to x3.0. Now I'm thinking it has to do with the amount of completely upgraded cells? Maybe I skipped dialog in the beginning haha. I also did not understand how other players can have this many flower fields, as mine always instantly got infected by birds and I had to paya lot to turn them back to flowers. That made me just upgrade all to concrete which is not as fun. Game structurally is very cleanly made though.
I feel that it's a good concept for a complete game, but I don't feel like the theme is there, I don't recommend you to make the player stop holding the mouse (that is important to the gameplay) to press keys like "H" or "J", instead, it would be better to make a puzzle that makes you spam the mouse buttons or the spacebar that already has my left hand on it
Interesting interpretation of the theme. It leans more toward “disease” than “theft,” but I still enjoyed it from that angle. I had a good time playing, and the pixel art looks really nice.
This feels like the theme was forced onto the mechanics. Who are we stealing land from? The vast empty sea?
I like the idea of birds carrying disease -- there is a lot of potential lore there.
The UX was kind of a hassle, but it functioned.
Good job! The idea of stealing the land is unique and funny to me
My first game I died to those dang birds infecting my land and I didn't know what to do, so I restarted the game to read the rules again, lol
like others said I wish the click handling was a little better, exiting the current popup in order to be able to click on more tiles again is clunky in a way that makes the game feel like it is not functioning correctly
Unique take on the theme. I think it's a stronger incorporation of 'disease' than it is of 'theft' but enjoyed playing it in that context nonetheless. I had fun trying my hand at the game, and think the pixel art is lovely.
- I think the mini games let the game down a little currently. They quickly get repetitive and dont present much of a challenge, aren't designed as nicely as the rest of the game, and the suddenly urgent music rips me out of the flow of an otherwise fairly pretty, natural-themed game. I enjoyed the tile game, I'm not sure the minigame aspect adds much for me atm.
- Being locked into the 'upgrade'/'isolate' or revive screen when there isn't enough money and you have to click back before you can do anything else feels very punishing to me. The game is in those instances working actively against my intentions, and usually there seems only one action available, so I think having a button just disable when money's not available and not lock you into any ui screen might work beter.
I love the art for this game, the mini games feel a bit easy, but other than that great game :]
Trying to fill the screen...
The game needs some UX improvements, like hotkeys to place/cancel tile. But great job ! The game is polished and really addictive
Very interesting take on the theme and a very good entry. Well done!
Some feedback from my end:
- the spacebar mini game would be better if the "green" part was randomly placed every time you started the game. Right now when you get the feel for it, its not really a challenge anymore. Also it could vary in size depending on the amount of land the player currently stole
- I'd also add a "right click" / "esc" cancel action so when you click on a tile you can opt out of it. Clicking on the "back" button is slightly tedious
Overall the game is fun, Congrats!
Has a really nice loop to it, the birds are so cute! I wish that the mini-games had some sort of scaling difficulty and the UI was a little bit hard to navigate sometimes especially in tense situations, but overall a really great entry!
The game loop is really good and addictive, stealing territory feel overpower and those pesky birds…
The gameplay is addictive! It would be great if you added more minigames to steal territories. One small issue: the UI doesn't close automatically when I click on the map, so I have to manually close it before I can click on a tile. Congrats on the entry!
Very nice art and interesting gameplay concept. I would let the player select a new tile without escaping the menu of the current one, felt a bit clunky.
