Ideas for metroidvania

I’ve been working on a metroidvania themed around a kingdom of fungi right now I’m working towards a demo with the first area and want to know what enemies and bosses people would like the best, the first area is called the bramble and is themed after a thorny, bramble filled caverns. Thank you to anyone who is willing to respond.

I think it's hard to recommend something without a visual reference and some more detail on the story. Are the fungi fighting each other? or is there an external threat? In addition, some basic ideas would be to think of enemy variety and then adapt them to your basic enemy type. For example, a big chunky mushroom is a tank enemy. A fast enemy might be thin, gangly and small.

I realize now I should have added more detail, you are a mushroom fighting your way through a destroyed kingdom after a curse destroyed the mycelium connecting everything together.

Like the commenter above said, it's hard to tell without context and/or visual reference.

However, the area's name/description suggest enemies that damage whenever you touch them, hazards, and a zone hard to navigate in general.

Based on that alone and nothing else, it might sound like it's too threatening/dangerous for a first area? I'd go with something a bit more vanilla and friendly, but keep in mind this is based on nothing but vibes.

yeah the name does sound harsh for a starter zone but I’m planning not to have too many challenging platforming sections unless you come back with new abilities and the thorns are there to teach the player about environmental hazards along with basic enemies throughout.

For brambles filled cavern, I prefer to see these kind of enemies:

1. Static spiky plants

2. Flying bugs

3. Shooting plants

4. Medium sized herbivores

As for bosses, these would do great:

1. Giant beetle

2. Giant spiky flower

3. Giant spiky bug

thanks for the suggestions I think I will try to add a few of these to the area.
