Finally I have a moment to play this game, the hand-drawn style always calls my attention and it really looks nice, this game has my favorite visuals in this jam ^^

About the game, I like the story, it really reminds me of stuff I used to watch as a kid, like I could see this kind of story and characters in a TV show haha. The puzzle aspect of the game, I also like it, it’s creative to form the action this way and feels refreshing, also it reminds me of old flash games, where you look around to get new pieces to continue, which I like

The difficulty is nice, I didn’t get stuck many times, just at 1 point but once I got the answer, it felt like it was a good answer or in general, all the answers feel good and along the idea of the puzzle/talk, except for the jam answer hahaha

That key word, I feel a bit conflicted, I only paused the game because I thought I was on full screen and I wanted to exit a little bit to see the description of the game but I heard the sfx of a new word and I was like “this is a bug or what?”, I looked again at the pause menu and I just thought “This is really silly hahaha xD”. Like for the jam, this is clever and silly which I really liked, but at the same time I feel a bit conflicted because, what if I never have paused the game?, I know there is a playthrough but idk, this time I'll pick to laugh and be happy that this happened, really nice for this jam xD

I was looking at all the combinations to see I only needed to pause because I had everything else done

About the sfx, they are good, maybe a song in low volume would do wonders to the game, it’s ok as it is now, but a song could keep you engaged for more time. I actually wanted more but all good things come to an end. I really enjoyed this game, it was fun and visually pleasing. Great game! :)

Wow, thank you so much for the long comment, it means a lot to us!

Yup, the jam puzzle is definitely busted, we liked the idea and did not think it through:D We already agreed that the game should have a button that says pause, maybe you'd unlock it in the same way as the other verbs, maybe it would be there from the start. Without the button, you wouldn't expect to be able to pause an unpolished point and click adventure right? xD

The background music is also something which already came to my mind, I think it's a great idea! Unfortunately, we both have no musical talent:D

Personally, I'm also really glad you enjoyed the dialogue, this was the first time I did anything of the sort! Maybe there is more to come, point and click adventures are some of our favorite games:)

I'm happy you left the jam puzzle as it is now, experiments/ideas like those are good to make and more in jams since it's a good place to test stuff haha :)

And well, I'll never think about the pause menu because in general it's rare games from jam have a pause system, and I don't put that in my games xD so the idea of a pause menu with key info is in the game, for me is something new in a jam haha, that's 1 reason why in some way I liked it

This is so incredibly charming!!! I love you Penny the Penguin.

Even though you said the game isn't really finished, I found it really enjoyable, the dialogue based puzzles are such a refreshing idea and the art is beautiful! Awesome job!

Developer

Thank you for the encouragement! We didn't actually think of puns as the main mechanic before having implemented the two word system, it just naturally came up after that! Game dev is a journey:)

I love the art! I got stuck without the walkthrough, not realizing 'go town' would unlock more dialogue.

Developer

Thank you! Yeah, I'm glad to have added the walkthrough, I totally get that not being obvious!

Your art is so cute!!! Nice puzzles 💖

Nice style and nice drawings ! (I was a bit stuck at the part with Tina, could you give me a hint ?)

Developer(+1)

Did you try "give help" with Tina? If yes, at what point specifically are you stuck?

There's also a walkthrough under downloads, but those aren't really hints, just full on spoilers:D

Submitted(+1)

Yes! Someone who also did traditional art for their game lol (your drawings are higher quality). I love how this plays, by the way.  You have to read and follow along with the story. It's cute and I'd love to see more of this kind of work.
Great job!

Really cool artstyle ! The dialogue were well written. I felt a bit more like trying randomly than really ah ha moments but it might just be me not paying enough attention. I feel like the transition will cool the first few time get a bit tiring when you have to move around a lot.

Developer (1 edit)

Thank you! Yeah, it's mostly because I didn't have time to write all the dialog I wanted to, nor to reread and playtest all the lines I did write. As a result I feel there are not enough hints in the game.

You can actually skip the transition by clicking anywhere, maybe the game should tell the player :D

I love the hand drawn style! (got stuck on cake puzzle, but once i figured it out it was so delightful!)

Developer(+1)

Wow you managed to beat it without the walkthrough?:) That's awesome

Interesting artstyle. this might be the perfect jam for that

Beautiful game! Managed to reach until the cake ingredients, but got stuck not knowing what to do. Really cleaver use of words as actions, great job!

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Thank you:) I added a "walkthrough" in case you want to play it to the end without the headache of poorly thought out puzzles:)

You can find it on the game page under downloads.
