Love the Dark Souls vibe of the game. I did find it a little hard to distinguish the mountains/walls between the regular walkable path, but overall fun/cool looking game. Impressive that you did all of this in such a short jam too
Thanks for the feedback and happy you picked up on the DS vibes.
Next time I do plan to address visual contrast issues, especially with the level design and also the text :)
Brilliant game. I love the map design and the npcs I found along the way. I was expecting to play only around 15 minutes, but that quickly turned to 30 as I continued to explore.
Thanks so much for playing and the feedback.
I am glad you became absorbed in this dark world. Typical full playthrough is well over an hour for your first time to reach the ending :)
Well, this is the first place!
If that were to come true it would be a great honor for me since there are so many amazing games in this game jam - yours included :)
Good thing you have here. Loved the dark souls vibes and the souls mechanics. I had trouble reading the soul value of enemies, but with the 2 color limitation that's understandable. Great job!
Thanks for playing!
The numbers did bother me too but the workaround I tried didn't look good and I ended up running out of time in the jam to fix it.
the gameplay is very interesting and addictive at the same time, the atmosphere is great, it reminds me of Dark Souls, which I love. I didn't find any obvious drawbacks, and I'm impressed that you managed to complete everything.
Thanks very much and yes - the DS feel to the game is indeed what I was going for so it makes me happy that you picked up on those vibes :)
This game is excellent, I had a lot of fun playing it, played it for way too lon :D Super fun mechanic of a clicker with RPG element<s>. Looks glorious too.
Thanks so much for playing and the kind feedback :)
This is what dark souls would've been if it was released in the 1980s.
It's super cool, super polished for a game like this. It has such a charming retro PC game feel to it that I really like. Incredible game. Amazing how it's done in just a week. Well done!
Thank you very much for the top tier praise!
For one of my games to be mentioned in the same breath as DS fills me with absolute joy let me tell you :D
This was a fun premise. I struggled a bit understanding things at the beginning but once I understood how the gameplay worked, I was able to explore and see the worldbuilding and lore. I like intensity of the atmosphere, walking into danger with a certain amount of souls is a gamble in itself so I felt the stress of hoping to find another way to collect souls down the way ect. Overall, amazing art style and gameplay!
Thanks for playing, glad you liked the game.
I'll try have a better explanation of the mechanics next time because I do like to explore new concepts and adopt out of the box ideas.
I'm not really into clickers, but this game is so good! Yeah, the enemies' souls are a bit hard, but I don't really care because the atmosphere and locations are so gorgeous that I was just sitting and playing without any complaints. Great gameplay, sound, and art style. Amazing job!
Thanks very much for playing and glad you had a good time with the game!
TBH I wanted to make a clicker because it's new ground for me but then thought about ways I could make the whole concept more interesting and engaging for the player so I threw in some dark lore and ARPG elements and this was the result.
I love a good clicker, and this really scratched the itch! This is a lot of fun, I got the 100/100 upgrades and the airship, but then wasn't sure what to do after that. Great work, really solid!
Thanks for playing!
You're right at the best part coming up. Simply fly the airship east to an island you couldn't get to before and you're right before endgame.
If you've enjoyed the game so far, there's a treat up ahead, don't stop now!
Pretty interesting! I think there were a lot of moments were it was hard to see what was going on exactly, the text felt quite small and the numbers on enemies was unreadable in a lot of areas.
What could probably help is leaning towards a darker contrast and/or adding outlines to the text, as well as enlarging them.
But! Interesting concept for sure. I kind of wished this leaned more into being truly 1-bit, with no grays, but it does look interesting as is.
Thank you for trying the game out.
Yeah I did try to remedy the legibility problem with the numbers but when I added a dark back to them it looked odd and I didn't really have enough time left in the jam to find an effective work around. Just so you know I was mindful of the numbers and it was something that was bothering me all the while, but hey-ho :)
Yeah I totally get it, it's suuuuper tricky to really get anything looking nice with the 1-bit style
Great atmosphere, music and huge amount of sprite work! Due to the 1-bit restriction it sometimes get a bit hard to see what's happening on screen, but I'm impressed of what you managed to build in a relatively small amount of time.
However, not sure if it is just on my machine (played browser version) -there were issues loading sounds (they mostly loaded once I pressed retry) but it did end up disrupting my game experience
Thanks for playing and sorry about the error but sometimes browser builds are a little unstable, that's why I added a download option too in case anyone wanted that - it tends to iron out those bugs with things like that.
Oh, this is SO charming, I love the dark atmosphere, it literally oozes from the screen. Can't describe how much I love it! The combat feels a tiny bit clunky, but it might be me, actually. Adore the music and sound effects, too. Very fitting. Good job! ( •͈૦•͈ )
Thank you for playing and the feedback.
If I make anything similar in the future I will try to streamline the combat a little since now you mention it, that could be a tad slicker.
Love the atmosphere! I like the idea of mixing an incremental game with exploration. If you think about it that's essentially what an RPG is anyways.. right? I would have liked some story events or dialogue to make exploring feel more rewarding. Maybe more contrast between the sprites and the background also.
Solid entry!
Thanks for playing and the comments.
The story only really gets going towards the back half of the game since I really wanted the visuals, concept and gameplay to be the main drivers for a short game jam game like this.
I will take your advice on board though, much appreciated :)
