I love the concept of this game but it was a bit too monotonous for me to finish. I couldn’t find one of the dirt smudges in the last level OR I missed part of one while I was cleaning it and it made it very difficult to find.
The game itself makes me feel like I’m cleaning up after a hero so great job with that! I just wish I enjoyed cleaning more :P
Thank you so much for creating and submitting this game. You can watch my playthrough here: https://youtu.be/B4p4zzJjqvA
I know this a small detail but I like how you have tutorial text popping up detailing the controls on the center right of the screen. Although, I would highly recommend adding an additional input for disabling tutorial text and re-enabling it if the player forgot the controls just to create a balance for players that have a great short-term memory and others that don't.
As for the gameplay, I'm struggling to grasp what I'm supposed to do to progress. There are a bunch of interactable that I can grab and drop but I don't know what they're meant to be used for nor do I know where to put them. A lot of this game seems to be all over the place without a definite goal.
Good thing I figured out what I was actually supposed to do by looking the images in the game page and noticed that I can clean dirt/goo (I think?) with a sponge and throw junk in the garbage.
The tilted movement when moving side-to-side is a nice detail.
How am I supposed to beat up the alien? Nevermind, I got it as I just pick up a brick and use the character's offhand.
However, as for the junk, I need a really clear indicator as to which ones are junk to throw into the garbage and which ones aren't, perhaps use an outline material for the junk when the player is near and looking at it.
The gameplay loop is solid overall. However, it's a bit tedious in later levels because there are 45 things I need to do to leave the area in that second area and with movement being smoothly animated, the process of completing 45 things just takes too long. Think about Portal 2, that's a puzzle game right and none of their gameplay loop is tedious as there is different puzzles and how the player should get around these sections. I'm not seeing that here, maybe except for the alien that spawns in the second area.
This game appears to be a puzzle game, which is great but the gameplay loop should be less of repeating the same thing over and over again if you have 50 objectives to complete and they require the same goals as the first area.
Another thing to keep in mind is the shadows in the area, some of the dirt isn't visible and I had to scrub the area just to make sure I cleaned it fully.
I cleaned the 3 stations in the end.
The game is great for the jam even if my experience with it was a bit awkward.
I've got performance issues which makes sponging extra laborious, and because I'm super dumb I needed both the gifs on the page and the comments here to finally understand how to fight, which is a bit of shame as in the same time it's the sort of thing I love to figure out and picking the monster then hit it with a brick is actually awesome, I love it.
I love the weird physics and overall cartoon vibe, throwing stuff all over the place, and the 0g in the 3rd level and stopping it. The simulation is advanced given the context, I didn't immediately understand that my washing my sponges was getting complicated because the water tank was getting dirty, that was a Wow moment. Throwing it into the bin, and overall throwing everything into the bin, and especially the dead monsters, was satisfying. Fighting is super cool.
Thanks for sharing!
It’s definitely an interesting crossover of dungeon crawlers and cleaning games.
The cleaning worked almost as expected, I would love to see it register that I’ve cleaned the part sooner rather than at the current setting. Or have a “dirt vision” of some sorts, as it was sometimes hard to figure out if you’ve cleaned the thing or not without looking at the top bar.
Enemies were an interesting addition to the cleaning genre, but I was struggling picking them up to kill them. So they felt a bit annoying, but not as a skill check. But the different ways of killing them is definitely nice, I found that you can brick them (which is hinted in the guid), throw grenades at them, and probably shoot them also?
The trash bag felt like an it’s unnecessary after figuring out that you can carry two pieces of junk and just get them to the trash bin. It was cool, but it was also buggy, I dropped useful stuff in it quite often when I wasn’t intending to do it.
But overall I feel like this is quite an interesting entry with a potential. If you figure out how to work around annoyances that might be a very solid game.
Here’s my play-through:
Cool game! For some reason my brain just really ticks with this. Loved nearly everything it had to offer :). Only feedback I'd give is that the sponges get dirty a bit too fast, but that's pretty much the only issue I had. Couple minor bugs here and there (at some point my water merged with the floor lol) but nothing too bad.
Really like the transition between level 1 and 2, where it says "good against them", and I, like the good cleaner I am, ignored that and cleaned it up just to be jumped by an alien later on :). Overall just a really fun game!
Hm, movement was a bit too slow for my taste and the sponge get dirty to fast. But the implementation of the cleaning them was fine. The graphic look very impressive for a jam game. There is even a phyics engine, haven´t seen that yet in the jam. What I was missing most were soundeffects. If there were some cleaning sounds, it would be more immersive.
always loved powerwash simulator and the cleaning mechanic is actually really similar to powerwash, like it a lot
the head bobbing is a pain tho, but the rest of the game is very very good!
Thanks for playing it! Yeah the head bobbing is not great, you can turn it off in the menu to make it less nausiating. I've never played powerwash actually but i think i was inspired by it's mechanics subconciously
All roads lead to powerwash sim
Interesting game.
It was a bit hard to get the hang of. And since the game is about making a chore it would benefit from being a bit snappier. Especially the movement, but also the cleaning part. Core concept is nice and with a bit of cleaning up in the polish it would be great!
Good job!
Thanks for trying it out! You can disable head bobbing in the menu, that makes movement a bit easier i think.
I really liked the theme and the visuals of the game! The Brush scrubbing was satisfying
I genuinely had fun with this game, but the GIFs on the game page were doing some heavy lifting re: tutorializing. I was laughed at for saying I could pick the alien up and brick him to death in my arms like the pieta, but who's laughing now!
Thanks for playing! Yeah i added the gif exactly because of that at the last minute. My playtester didn't try to pick the alien up so that definitely felt lackluster. I hope everything else was pretty clear!
