I really enjoyed this. The whole world is actually a giant logic puzzle and I have to - finally - plan literally every step I take. And I also have many different abilities. The visuals bring back memories from the PS1 era, which adds nostalgia points. The visuals are actually trivial, but they fit together really well and the atmosphere is great.
There are a lot of bugs, but that's completely normal in GJ. It's just that I accidentally discovered that I can possess men remotely, which wasn't exactly ideal. I also have no idea what I am at the beginning - just some kind of disease? Mold? Giant purple mushroom? Mycelium? I would like to see "who" or "what" I am at least in the beginning.
Hopefully you have more levels planned and ready. More animals, more levels, more purple everything!
Whoa. A 3D game, well made, good looking, good sounding, good atmosphering, good moving, good playing, good puzzling. In a 48 hour jam. What should I tell more?
I really like this game and I want more of it. A lot more of it. There is a good game play and atmosphere, yet there should be more puzzles and perhaps more mechanics, although the ones made for the jam are good. I love that various animals have various abilities, I love that I must combine them in a smart way, I love that that I cannot use one animal twice. But please, go on, develop the game! Give me more creature abilities, more puzzles and more levels.
To this point, it’s a great game.
On the other hand, some things feel flat with this game and should be addressed:
I think the story (and level design) should be iterated more, perhaps some classical game such as Thalos Principle should serve as an inspiration.
But to me, this is a great game with big potential. The team was probably the most enjoying team, with good vibes and in a great mood for the whole jam. One of the members also managed to sleep only 1 hour during the 48 hours period, yet deliver lot of work and still be fresh after the jam. I don’t get how is that even possible. I hope the team didn’t say its last word :)
Visuals are interesting but not distracting. Just pleasing 3D. I also like the sounds. From the gameplay, it is a cool idea for a puzzle with different roles and requirement for a good route planning. Not sure about the "human" ability, I probably didn't understand it at all. However, one animal in particular is a bit overpowered and I managed to go out-of-bounds with it by accident :D. But I think I reach the end, even thought not in the intended way. Maybe one think I would improve would be the time the trail kills you. Currently, it is too short, at least for me. But it might be just my skill issue.
I like the idea - very original. In some levels, I was confused if I succeded or if I'm playing the same level all over again - but I figured it out pretty quickly. You managed to make the atmosphere mysterious and depressive - which I suppose was the intention.
Ok, this was fun. I think I solved the puzzles without any deer glitching through trees shenanigans. The last puzzle was really satisfying to solve. I think I would have preferred not having a trail at all, as it was more of an annoyance than a mechanic I had to be careful about. Even if I knew what I was doing, standing on that path for a really short time can make me start the level all over again.
Also wish there was the remote possession mechanic explained somewhere in the game, as I only got it after reading the comments and the remote possession should have aim indicator as the dot is not on the screen unless you are already trying to possess something, but I understand there wasnt much time with all the amazing stuff you guys got in the game.
Also I see the cheeky trap that you put at the end there. I cant believe I fell for it. And on my next try when I knew what to expect, I got killed by the trail because I was too slow...
Overall I really enjoyed the game and wish for more levels like the last one, as I think that one was really creative and had to be solved in a way that the player didnt expect
Visually impressive game especially for a 3D game (in 48 hours!). Also the UI is gorgeous.
Overall the game still feels a bit overscoped. There is a lot it is trying to do, that it ends up not doing much well. To me the level design felt confusing, the controls (especially the body switching) felt clunky so much so, that it felt like doing random things rather than actually solving a puzzle.
On the other hand, the atmosphere feels pretty good. Sounds and music work well with the environment which adds to the immersion. While there is a story, it feels vague and is basically a wall of text at the start and at the end. Then there are endings based on your decisions about the guards, which I didn't really understand.
To summarize, I really like the concept, it is interesting and quite unique. It was very ambitious and you got very close to actualizing it well, if you had like a day more. And while the final prouduct isn't as polished as it deserves, it doesn't take away much from the achivement you have all accomplished. Great job!
Hey, we've noticed that many people are facing a bug of getting stuck or that their inputs are ignored. This is caused by running the game at very fast frame rates. If you are facing these issues, then if you can, please try limitting the games FPS in your driver settings. Up to 144 FPS should be good enough. After that, all input detection issues are gone.
We apologise for the inconvenience and we swear to never use unmodified Unity's modern input system with deltaTime ever again. Also don't forget to switch the FPS cap off after you're done.
The game's visuals are great. Unfortunately, I get completely stuck in place every time I try to possess the first animal. I am also unable to open settings from either the start menu or while the game is paused. I will withhold my vote for now in case there is a hotfix that would allow me to play the full game.
Hi, sorry for the inconvenience, the bug is framerate dependent. Please look at the most recent comment above this one to fix the issue.
Liked the visuals. The music is cool, but gets somewhat repetetive. The puzzle levels weren't all that interesting to me, but the mechanic overall was really creative and I think there is a lot of potential there. Really liked the movement of the doe.
The settings do not seem to work? The squirell going up is REALLY buggy. What was the purpose of the guards?
Wish we had more time to let Makenbo brew his music magic a little longer. He would have cooked up more than one banger track. Awesome to hear that you find potential in Voracious. Especially since you and your team made such a fleshed-out game.
Yes, settings are bugged for the moment and unavailable, and movement still requires some fixing.
I think the guards were testing you, but who am I to speak for them?
Thank you for playing the game and stopping by to give us your feedback! Very much appreciated.
Did not even get past the first wall, whenever took control of the hog, I got stuck and couldn't move at all.
We’re sorry to hear that. Movement issues seem to intensify on high-end hardware. So recommended specs -> probably a fridge.
Once the uploads open again, we’ll make sure to add a web build so everyone can run the game.
Hey, sorry for the inconvenience. I added a comment above that shows how to resolve this issue, if you have the time and patience to try again.
Very interesting main mechanic - it is definitely quite unique and fun to explore, could be made into a full fledged game if designed properly. The overall atmosphere and visuals help it too.
Im not really sure if im a fan of the following trail mechanic. Feels like it doesnt serve much of a purpose, if we want to punish the player for not moving and visiting same spot too much, it would need to be either just health damage, or actually full on focus on this mechanic, and ideally give the player a small time rewind or something, as it only feels frustrating, makes you replay the whole level and feels like it did not even have to be there IMO (i know it represents one of the jam themes, so i would go with the damage option)
The game feels a bit clunky or glitchy at times - the boar does not move as soon i get in, and feels stuck. The abilities do not feel responsive, eg. the climbing sometimes work sometimes not really, etc
Other than that the game is actually nice, it is definitely quite a big one for a game jam, but i think you managed quite well. Was very enjoyable to play, thank you :)
We’re so glad our little fungal adventure caught your eye. As a team we fell in love with making the art style feel unique and are thrilled to hear you liked it.
(As the UI artist speaking) Absolutely. The damage from the trail needs to be better indicated and timed a little less unforgivingly. Something to keep in mind in the future. :)
Smoothness of movement is a known issue, one that still needs quite a bit of polish.
Thank you so much for playing and leaving a thoughtful review! Means a lot!
Thanks for feedback.
The trail is there to add the need of some extra thought before acting. It's not explored enough tho. One note on dying, there is a slight delay before dying (you are able to pull out before dying) and the levels are quite short. I see it can feel frustrating. That part is partially for speedruners to hinder their time.
As for the glitches, I have no other defence nor explanation except: It's gamejam game. Sorry for inconvenience
A přelézání stěn s veverkou ne vždy funguje.
11/10, změnilo mi to život
