Yea, I know the part you are at, you do the boost pad back to middle and it you look around that area there are .... more ladders. One of them takes you up to tower and toward the end of the game.
If you scroll down on the gamepage there is a video of the play through, if you want to see the end / how to get to it.
Unless I'm mistaken and it really did break, there is a respawn bug that is so rare that even now I think its fixed haha
