Hands-down the most fun I've had this jam. It was a simple concept executed to near perfection, i.e. my favorite type of game! And it fits the theme like a glove. I think the only issue I had is that sometimes I confused my projectiles with the enemy projectiles in late game, but that was probably just a skill issue. Fantastic job!
Woaahh, that was fuuun! I almost made it to wave 40 haha, which is probably low but I'm proud of. The music was repetitive but also never got tired of it and I thought the art was super cute. Would play again!
Fun little roguelike, loved to see the differents upgrades on the screen as i progress through the waves. (saws go brrr) I really loved the design of Nebula and its attack pattern !
Cute game! I really enjoyed the graphics and art direction! The 8-bit pixel art vibe fits super well.
Hey! Awesome game. The graphics are simplistic yet appealing, musics good, and upgrade system is cool.
I think one thing is I wish the upgrades came slightly more often. Overall really great work I think it's pretty fun
It’s very fun, the art and atmosphere are great! One thing that was a bit confusing is that I can block almost every projectile with my body. At some point, the boss’s attacks become useless because of this. You might want to consider this. Maybe the projectiles should pass through the player instead. Overall, a very solid and enjoyable game!
Thanks for the feedback. The player can actually block any projectile, the idea is to block the projectiles that are going in the core's direction before they damage it. If the projectiles went through the player than the game would lose that core idea and would end up getting much harder. Still were glad you had fun.
A great game! I loved its pixel art style. Overall, it's a lot of fun to play.
Really enjoyed the game! It feels great to play and it was very polished!
Only thing I would say is I wish I didn't have to install the game. A ZIP with the executable would be way better
Cool , the game is enjoyable !
Really cool game! I loved its pixel art, and the improvement evolution during the game is very good too. Congratulations!
Really fun game, i was hooked quickly. Some ennemies miss impact animation so sometimes it's a bit hard to know if you are properly making damage. With more variety going further it could be an really nice full game. Congrats.
I enjoyed the gameplay of this game. I agree with the others here where it can get stale further into the game, but this is a game jam so it's not that big of a deal. Great job!
I like it, I made it to wave 32. I think the pixel art is cool, and the game is tons of fun. I also would like a bit more gameplay variety, but that's a nitpick. Great Job!
I liked the game. I was circled to death by the first boss. My only reservation is that I had to install it. Using Gamemaker Studio as well, I would have preferred a zip folder or a browser. The browser option would likely get more people into your game.
Thanks for the feedback. I'm pretty new to posting my games, so your advice is really helpful. I'll try to post a zip file of the game in the future after the jam, and maybe even make a browser version. I don't know how to do that, but who knows
I really like the retro-minimalistic artstyle!
We interpreted the theme similarly by using the player to block projectiles :D
Overall fun to play!!!
Fantastic entry, I got to wave 37 so far. I think the core gameplay loop is one of the best I've played yet in the jam, and the expression of the invincibility theme was also one of the best with the "reverse bullet hell" gameplay.
Some constructive feedback for things you could improve if you keep working: The game feel / reactivity / juice wasn't bad, but I think it could be improved by adding things like some mild screen shake, some animations (even if just a single frame) when enemies get hit, little things like that. You're probably already aware of these kinds of effects and just didn't have time to work on it, just thought I'd mention it.
I think it would also be really neat to do a little more with the blocking bullets mechanic, like having it power up an ultimate move over time, or reward you with currency, anything like that.
Other things I did love: Lots of enemy variety for a jam game, I exclaimed out loud when the Nebuly boss appeared. The "pick one upgrade" system is always a welcome addition to games like this, and I enjoyed getting to customize my character build that way. Gives it a lot more replay value. Everything was very clear visually and behaved the way I expected it to, whenever I messed it up it felt mostly like a skill issue, not a problem with the controls or mechanics. The difficulty escalated at a very nice pace, started off easy as I got comfortable with the gameplay, and gradually got more challenging until I was really sweating trying to stay alive by the time the boss fight hit.
Awesome work!
Thanks for the feedback, the idea of blocking bullets charging up a super move was actually something one of the members of the team suggested, but it ended up not getting added because of time constraints. Still, it would be something cool to add in the future. Glad you had fun
Really loved the audio design, it really adds to the experience. Even though I am personally not a big fan of this artstyle genre, I do appreaciate the consitency in it's implemenation - nothing stood out as wrong so I would say it's great. The gameplay is cool and I like the little dude
What an amazing game! Quite straight forward game loop, yet so much fun to play! Had a nice N64 era vibes. Loved the varieties of upgrades as well. Great work
Has a good retro style and pretty fun gameplay loop!
I loved it. Nice work.
