The art and overall presentation is very stunning; I love the HD-2D style and lighting/atmosphere. It feels great to collect things in this game and the grind factor/loop was addictive at first... Personally, for me the only thing it's lacking is true challenge - the enemies in practice function too similarly to mining and it feels more like you're harvesting them rather than fighting/engaging.

I still think it's an incredible 'collectathon' and resource management game and while I would appreciate more challenge to balance things out, this could be more down to personal preference and might not have been what you were going for. For those who want a chill time collecting/grinding though, I can't fault this game at all. Amazing effort, no question among the best in the jam.

Developer(+1)

Thank you! We'll keep your notes in mind. We did want a more "chill" incremental game without too much challenge. But challenge can definitely add more suspense and have its place in incremental games. So we will experiment further with enemies attacking and other ideas. Thanks again!

This is my first time playing 2.5D game, and it feels good! I like the art style! Pretty good game in just a limited time!

Unfortunately, I can't rate, but I think my teammate already rated it because he recommended this

Developer

Thank you! Really appreciate the compliments. Your guys game was great as well. Super good art.

This game is near perfection! Great visuals, very unique and endearing perspective (the game being first person and 2.5D), upgrades add replay-value, some of which must have been a headache to code ~ Atmospheric music, interesting and addictive gameplay-loop and concept. I was barely able to stop playing! Roguelike elements. I can easily see myself returning to this game at a later point. This is a fully-fledged, finished game that could easily be sold already ~

Some minor nitpicks:

- You receiving a chance for double/triple enemy paths before room 5 adds a chance for there to be more than one enemy feels a bit redundant, since the enemies don't do anything (of course they don't because that's the point of this game, yes very smart Zero 😅 But you get the point!) and they are more or less carbon-copies of each other. Also multi enemypaths should have some kind of an indicator possibly for what they have inside the room (whether you face one enemy or more). Otherwise the choice is pretty much pointless since you don't know what you're about to face, hence there not really being a choice. The illusion of choice is strong ~

- You should have doubled down and made even mining the ores drain the invincibility-meter, because the upgrade that allows you to mine ores more efficiently feels kinda mute since they take very few slashes to obtain anyway (unless the upgrade exists solely to provide convenience)

Other than that, best game I've played in this Jam, bravo! 👏 If this doesn't win the first place of this Jam, we live in a clownworld. And that's a world I don't want to live in ~

I'm a professionally-trained game designer, being able to give good critical feedback is a part of the resumé ~ And thank you once again for liking Void Reaper, the whole team appreciates it :) <3

I really like this sort of games, it feels very smooth! Tho the lock picking is a bit weird for me, but overall game is amazing, applies to the visual and SFX!

Also i can report that if you open upgrading menu you can missclick at the start and upgrade something you dont want to.

Developer(+1)

Thank you I really appreciate it! Thanks for the report about the upgrades. It would make sense to add a short delay after opening it before the player can click on it. Gonna check out your game!

Wow wow wow! Realllllly well polished, good job man. The sound effects are super satisfying. Really addictive, you have something very very cool here. One of the best i've played

I enjoyed the progression of the game. Other than common already mentioned base movement speed/speed upgrade, I would just like to ask if coins can appear in the enemy rooms? Or is this a bug from previous gameplay? (See coins around the sword area) Great game! Really polished as well. :)

(Edit: Managed to beat the game after a few more iterations! I also would like to add, maybe add an upgrade to auto collect the coins in the corridor? Because at some point, it's just not worth it to stop for them and would rather proceed to the rooms.)

Developer

I'm so glad you liked it! That is definitely a bug. Seems like the rooms are not getting fully cleaned up after starting over from a run, so some coins are leftover from previous runs on the map. Thanks for reporting the bug!

Your game was great as well!

Thank you. Good luck on the jam! I added an edit on the original post as well for some QOL upgrades.

While I'm not really a fan of this genre, it doesn't stop me from appreciating a well polished, well made game. My only issue is that it performs a little poorly on my device, but I do own a fairly low-end laptop so it's to be mostly expected. A superb job here!

Developer(+1)

Thanks a ton for the great feedback even though you're not a fan of the incremental genre! Sorry that our game doesn't run smoothly for you. We will work to try and optimize it even further. I appreciate it! I had a good time playing your game as well.

Solid Incremental game, might need move speed increase to default move speed or have more move speed modifiers accessable earlier, apart from that sentiment, good gameplay loop

Developer

Thanks for the great feedback! We will definitely tinker with the movement speed for future updates. Learning more towards adding more movement speed boosts earlier on.

Your game was great too! Thoroughly enjoyed it.

Nicely done.

Thank you! I enjoyed your game as well

Absolute banger. Great progression, highly addicting, excellent take on the theme. Need a steam page so I can Wishlist ASAP. Highlight of the jam for me so far.

Developer

Thanks! Was a great time watching you play through it. Glad to see you beat the game. Hopefully we can get a steam page up soon.

The game is very beautiful and very creative, congratulations!!

Developer

Thank you! Your game was fun too!

This is such a good entry, the artstyle is good and the music is also very well made, it has a very solid gameplay loop, what else can I say xD
If I have to nitpick something it would be that the 3D rock for the mining felt a bit out of place compared to the rest of the artstyle
Either way, you did a great job, definitely a game with potential! ^^

Developer

Thank you! Really appreciate the positive feedback. I agree the styles can clash a bit. I think we will try to add some sort of pixelized texture on top of the ore to make it fit in better. Gonna go check out your game soon!

I genuinely enjoyed this game. I liked the artwork, especially the robed cultist/reaper end boss. Mining seemed underwhelming and ,although it looked good, was unrewarding with chest giving you gems in addition to gold. Chest should have a fail chance. Could you map the side buttons (available on some mouses) to the walk buttons and lock pick buttons. That would allow a player to use only their mouse if they wanted.

Developer

Super glad you played through it and got to the boss! Also very valuable feedback, thank you!

I agree with the mining currently feeling a bit underwhelming. We should add more mining multipliers in the skill tree.

Regarding the chest, we were actually planning to make the chest AND mining be "real time" events where the invincibility bar would continuously go down. This would incentivize the player to perform them faster so they use less invincibility. This is definitely something we will implement in a future update.

We hadn't thought about utilizing the side mouse buttons, that is a great suggestion.

Thanks again for the great feedback! Going to try your game soon. Look out for feedback from my partner const0 since my itch io is getting restricted commenting.

The audio design and art are really impressive, pretty enjoyable too, small critique would be the UI elements being a bit buggy depending on screen resolution, alongside feeling interactive before they should be (I often found myself accidentally clicking a sign before realizing it was there due to clicking there before it appeared).

Developer

Glad you enjoyed the game overall and thanks for the compliments on the art and audio! We'll make sure to touch up on the UI issues. If you have any specific areas you can remember that didn't scale well I would appreciate it.

Heard on the interactables. We should disable the signs colliders for a short period even after they're spawned to prevent these accidental clicks. Not sure why we hadn't thought of that already!

Appreciate the feedback! Really enjoyed your game as well

Submitted

From what I recall, all menus I interacted with (sword upgrade, skill tree, settings menu) were scaling incorrectly (I have a wider monitor, so they were all stretched vertically).

Wait, the art is insane! It's such a cool game, and it's kind of addictive. Very impressive. :)

Developer

Thank you! I'll be trying your game out soon as well.

I love the art style and the game mechanics. A full potential to be a proper published game. Love the upgrade systems and the planning of how to use the invincibility.

Developer

Thanks again!
