Overall, I really enjoyed the game. The atmosphere is extremely well done and pulled me in right from the start. It was genuinely fun to play. The idea with the TV show, and how it even guides the player at times, is very creative and makes the game stand out.
There were also moments where I actually laughed, which is something I don’t often experience in horror games. That made the game not only tense but also very entertaining. The mix of horror and humor works surprisingly well. Sure, the humor does reduce the scare factor a bit, but without it, the game wouldn’t feel as unique or memorable. It gave me strong Scary Movie vibes.
It’s also really impressive how much you managed to get out of such a small environment basically just a two-room apartment. That shows strong level design and clever use of space. Another thing worth mentioning is that you created most of the assets yourselves, which is very impressive and definitely noticeable.
One small criticism is that it’s somewhat noticeable that AI was used for the poster and possibly some background elements. Personally, I find that a bit unfortunate, because your skills in art are clearly there especially visible in the 3D assets you created yourselves.
What I would really love to see is a longer game built around this exact style, with more polish and fully leaning into this kind of absurd, “Scary Movie”-type humor. That kind of humor is still very rare in games, and you clearly showed that it can work really well. I think there’s a lot of potential here for something bigger.
That said, the positives clearly outweigh everything else. The creativity, the execution, and especially the combination of horror and humor really stand out. You can tell a lot of work and smart design went into this game.
The long awaited comment!!
Scary Movie was 100% an inspiration for the game. There's even a reference to it in the TV show during "The Scream" saying "Wazzup".
Reusing the environment for all the game was fully intentional because as you noted we built mostly everything ourselves. The poster and intro background was indeed placeholder AI that I just didn't get time to redo myself (I really didn't want to have it in that state)... Everything else used downscaled textures like in this video. I really wish I had more time, had so many more plans that I had to cut (like the TV was supposed to be fully animated).
I agree that funny/horror seems to be pretty rare. I kind of accidentally fell down this path because I felt the theme was REALLY dark initially and I wanted something that changed the pace a little.
Really thankful that you played and put your thoughtful feedback on this!
Had a blast playing this with you in the stream, thanks SO much for being in as long as you did! And can't wait to try all your other games!
At first, it's difficult to understand what to do. Then the tension gradually builds. Well done on this game!
I'm definitely going to give it a full playthrough for ya soon. This was a very well built game though. I really liked the atmosphere and how the tv worked. The only thing i could really critique from the start was the voice acting not really matching the atmosphere (This could also be me so please don't take it to heart lol) but other than that great submission man! Ps: I did think the voice acting was funny but it would've been a bit nicer to listen to if the voice was edited differently! Thats all!
I think the issue is either of the following:
- Audio was downsampled to 8K (trying to be PSX vibes) so it sounds very gritty
- Voice lines were written in like a day so didn't really have time to put emphasis on emotion/tone
- We're not voice actors so maybe our voice doesn't really translate well when downsampled
In the future I think I'll avoid downsampling audio because I agree it can sound abit off-putting at times.
Thanks for playing nonetheless!
Great atmosphere, especially after the first announcement on the TV!
Nice humor sprinkled in there! Really gave the 90s horror film vibe :D
Good job! 👏
Fun game! The voice acting goes hard. The commercials were amazing, ‘chop chop’. The game was also very spooky. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. The ending was a surprise as well!
I did encounter a minor bug: if you click off the game, the cursor doesn’t recapture when you return, so you’re stuck with your mouse on top of the screen for the rest of the game.
Great work!
My ears are bleeding, but it was totally worth it xD. Great job! <3
Amazing atmosphere! I loved it.
SPOILERS
I loved everything about the game. It was scary, and I found myself hiding in the closet after every reference on the TV because I thought I would be safe there until I looked next to me and saw a path to get the lights back on. The jump scare in there was amazing. The voice acting in the game, the different ways it made me think, “That’s how you get me,” the humor everything about this game was amazing. In the end, you completely got me. I fell for it all the way.
This means a lot, I really appreciate this!!
Comments like this really make me wish I could be watch everyone playing the game. I didn't even consider someone might be like "ain't no way I'm going to die now, closet time" - that's just so funny to me LOL. Could make for such a funny dialog in game too, like the TV telling you "stop hiding in the closet like a little scaredy-cat".
Really glad you really fully got it, makes the lack of sleep totally worth it for me in the end!
Again thanks a lot for playing!
Really impressive atmosphere! The dialogue and sound effects made the world feel so alive, Awesome entry!
This game is pretty good, especially with voice overs, and there are many things i LOVE, but i will tell the things i loved the most, first is the phone ringing sound, THATS MY GRANDMAS RINGTONE lol, next is EVEN i thought mom was a monster(dont tell her or i will be cooked lol) and i love the little baby scolding me for skipping the credits, and the thing was, I DIDNT KNOW THE GAME WAS OVEr, i was pressing random buttons so yea!
This is i think by far the scariest BUT most funniest games ive played, like i was laughing at the sleeping voice over, but i got scared when the mom came and when i fell down💀
BUT 1 thing i want you to add, is subtitles for the voice over, and yea!
Really appreciate this comment!!
Your grandma happens to have a ringtone that's high on Pixabay sound effects LOL. Don't worry for the mom part, it was just my girlfriend and I wrote the dialog for her so no one will be cooked here!
Definitely would've wanted to add subtitles, but I kinda cooked the voice overs in the last 2 days. The baby rant was a couple hours before deadline and it's basically a sleep deprived monologue. I'd definitely like to re-record and have dialog that's clear and concise so adding subtitles is actually worth it.
Again thanks alot for playing!
This game dialogue is pretty good
But i dont trust you with volume mixing, you made me volume up to hear the tv and then implode my ears with the scare stings :C
Agreed that the TV was low - I think I just got used to it being background noise in the gameplay and I kinda wanted people to be close to it to watch the show. I'll definitely consider a screen before gameplay to let you know what volume is considered "not implode your ears" volume.
Thanks for playing despite this!
