Theme Interpretation
Our game, "Brewthers," tackles the Brewing theme by making it the core engine of both the mechanics and the story. The game follows two brothers running a tavern. To progress, the player must explore the wild and gather specific ingredients. This directly ties into the BERRY SO MUCH wildcard: you collect various fruits to bring back to your brewer brother. He uses these fruits to craft different beer variants, each granting unique attributes and gameplay utilities. The overall gameplay loop relies heavily on the FUEL wildcard. The player character needs "liquid courage" to face the dangers outside. Their courage gauge is literally their blood alcohol level, which depletes constantly during exploration. When the character sobers up entirely, they regain their lucidity. Suddenly realizing the absurdity and danger of their situation, they panic and automatically flee back to the safety of the tavern. To continue the adventure, they have no choice but to brew another batch using the gathered fruits, get drunk again, and head back out. Finally, we embraced the WHAT YEAR IS THIS? wildcard through our audiovisual presentation. The visual assets we managed to produce feature a retro aesthetic. To complete the nostalgic feel, all of our original music and sound effects were crafted from scratch in-house, strictly adhering to the 8-bit audio constraints of classic early consoles.

Theme and atmosphere were great. I really enjoyed the characters and the dialogue, but did find the beginning a little unforgiving when trying to get out and get the materials. May have been a skill issue though, great game!
Really liked the graphics and animation - the feather on his helmet was very fluid! Music/sfx had a very retro feel. Loved the humor in the storytelling. Collisions were a bit off; there was a large gap at the top between houses that I wasn't able to pass through even though visually I should've been able to. I like the drunk timer mechanic to collect the fruits but I felt the actual time to sober up was a bit too punishing at the start - it didn't give enough time to explore the forest before resetting in the tavern, so I kept thinking I did something wrong. Eventually I was able to unlock the woodcutter somehow (I think I went to the far right, sobered up, got transported to tavern, then his beer request unlocked with the bartender?? Not sure, the signal wasn’t very clear.) Just some balancing notes, but otherwise nice game overall, and very nice visual polish!
I'm full from all that drinking! BTW I'm still 8-11 yrs old, but I'm not gonna give my personal info online
really enjoyed this game, I haven't had time to complete it yet only just played the village and forest part but when I have time I will try and finish it. Also I really enjoyed the background music!
Hello!
Thank you for your comment, it really means a lot to us!
Try to make it to the end, there’s a great conclusion waiting for you ;)
this was really fun! the upgrades came at the perfect time. right when you start getting annoyed that you dont have enough movement speed is when you finally get enough fruits to upgrade it. the only critique i have is that the collisions with the trees were a bit frustrating to go around. overall really nice job!
Thank you for your feedback!
We had planned to rework all the collisions, but unfortunately we ran out of time.
Glad you enjoyed the game!
I wish colliders and overall level design would be better. I completed the whole game, but it was frustrating sometimes to stuck between trees where the gap is visually bigger than player. In some places you have straight line of trees (what obviously is the "wall") and in some places there is strange gaps that looks like a passage but it's not, what makes you to do mistakes and play one more extra day. Music isn't annoying what is good. Lacks polishing I would say but overall - fine.
Thanks for the comment and for taking the time to finish the game. The whole team agrees with your remarks — we really wished we had managed those collisions properly and allowed the player to walk behind the tree canopies. Thanks a lot as well for the feedback on the music; it was my first time producing 8‑bit tracks that needed to loop cleanly, and on top of that in a medieval style.
Haha, the ending was great. This was an interesting take on the Minit style of games. Thanks for submitting it! It was enjoyable to piece together.
We’re really happy about your comment—finally, a player who managed to reach the game’s conclusion! For now, you’re our best player! :D
Honestly, people are missing out on the life changing advice at the end there 😉
Haha, best sales argument ever!
Fun little game! Love the upgrade loop although i think if you buy an upgrade instead of the potion for jim you can softlock yourself. (Or it was me being slow) that could be possible too.
Hello !
Thx for your comment ! I test the game and you cant be soft lock. Try again to meet the troll! :D
Great Game! Although, you might want to look up the proper settings for pixel art in godot,
it was kinda blurry
Great visuals and music!
Thank you ! First time ever on 8bit loop medieval style !
The drunk mechanic is original! But I couldn't get cherries and couldn't upgrade so the game became frustrating, I like the premise
The game isn’t very clear about this, but you first need to try going into the forest to trigger a dialogue and unlock the woodcutter. Then you’ll need to buy a beer and give it to him.
We add information on the game page for this.
I liked this very much, it was very original, played well and was fun, but why give me a sword when I can't use it to fight back.
Indeed, it’s not very clear, and we didn’t have enough time to implement it properly.
The knight is afraid to fight so he finds “bravery” in alcohol.
Very nice visuals and music, the UI and dialogues are really good too. I wish it had a bit more depth with the gameplay though
Audio is great! I was a bit confused thinking I could attack given I had a sword. Fun idea to use the liquid courage concept
