I played this when i was checking out entries from this jam (i have friends who participated in it), and had no idea it was from the same dev as trash bot! I really enjoyed it, it's kind of crazy you managed to make something this polished so fast
This was very fun to play through! The level design and movement felt great to use, and the artstyle + music were also really good!
If I had one complaint, it's that the atmosphere feels pretty inconsistent. The atmosphere in the first part of the game also felt really good and mysterious, like you were exploring a stange, unfamiliar world. Then it just changes into a more collectathon-platformer vibe randomly, only to go back and forth between atmosphere and more upbeat platformer vibes later. Don't get me wrong, both styles are good, but the sudden change was a bit jarring
Thank you !! this is great feedback too, i was moving pretty fast and never really considered how jarring the changes in atmospheres would be. I personally love games that feel mysterious and slightly dark and so i wanted to capture some of that but also wanted the upbeat vibe for the collectathon area so im not really sure what the best solution would be hmmm. Thanks for sharing!
Maneeee u really kilt with the visuals and polish. I made one of dem rate for rate posts so I was busy playing other games, but I was eyeing to play this one once I finished. I already said it but ion kno bro it's jus that the visuals and the polish were sooooo good, it reallly didn't feel like a game jam at all. Very cute player model, very cohesive and cute 3D style as well. Water bears can lowkey be ugly irl but u made them so cute and chubby lol. I also really like the ending music I stayed a bit to listen to it. The only critiques I would have really is to optimise for movement-based things since the gameplay is so centered around it. I initially was a bit frustrated with the slow player speed, and it felt a bit walking sim-ish, but then I realized I can bounce around on my head, so maybe teaching the player they can do that would help polish the experience, perhaps. Also guiding the player through other movement-based things like holding space for a longer jump, and explaining that those pads boost your jumps further. I do really like the bouncing on the head, it reminds me of b-hopping, but it does introduce some more areas of polish imo. It's all jus slight stuff, but since when you bounce on your head, you are locked into that jump. It would be frustrating sometimes overshooting obstacles just because I was trying to go faster, or even being locked in the wrong direction from where I wanted to go. I think this could be fixed if you gave the player control over direction while they were in the air or maybe even giving them the ability to double jump (either built in or unlockable) so that they can have the chance to redirect when in the air. Overall, this was really good bruh. Good job!
Yo Thank Youu!!! appreciate it! good suggestions here
I have no idea how you managed to make this entire game in two weeks. I wish I had your skills.
Everything about this game felt so well made and polished and I had a blast bouncing around the various areas.
Fantastic job! I hope this game does well in the rating. 🤩
Thanks!! =)
I really enjoyed playing your wonderful game. The graphics and music are simply superb. The level design is top-notch—I never got lost once. Great job!
Thanks for taking the time to write this!
My two biggest complaints would be the slow movement speed (feels arbitrary low like BOTW quick speed exhaustion) and the music being very low compared to the SFX. The jump height is also pretty low (a bit like how BeardMage describes it). Other than that the SFX and music are nice, the art as well (just a tiny polishing left I’d say, but it doesn’t help that I started playing video games with the DS and Wii, which had quite high standards already, so my standards are high from what I am most familiar with. It is still very good by itself!), and it is overall very creative! The ending was quite funny as well.
I can’t see the connection to the theme though. Did I miss something? Is it because it is a very resistent animal?
Thanks!! and for the feedback too, ill probably make an updated build after the jam that fixes a lot of the grievances with the movement. as for the theme "invincible" I'm grateful because its really the only reason i came up with the idea of the tardigrade protagonist which completely influenced what the game became, as for gameplay there isn't really a direct invincibility mechanic but there is no health bar and the main platforming challenge aka the balloon plants just push you off course instead of actually hurting you so i guess your invincible in that way.
Hey! Truly a delightful game. I beat it. It was wonderful. The platforming all works super smoothly for me, very intuitive. The music towards the end with the string instruments was sick. I like that you drew all the cutscenes. What a cute little game :) I really love this. Excellent job
Thank you so much!! it means a lot!
When I got going with the bouncing it got really fun! Enjoyed it a lot, sometimes the bouncing could be a bit finnicky but overall a satisfying experience!
agreed after watching some playtests i realized just how finnicky it can be lol. hopefully i can come back to this and improve on that aspect, im glad you enjoyed it! Thanks !!!
The artistic direction is top notch ! Really unique and polished, it's amazing ! The platforming is mostly very satisfying and permissive, it fits the atmosphere really well. The only little downside I found was that it is sometimes a bit hard to climb even tiny edges. In one of the areas I had to jump 5-6 times to get back on a small ledge after falling down. But besides that, everything was smooth and satisfying to play. Great job <3
Thanks!!! i decided early on that i wanted to focus more time into the visuals this jam so im glad it payed off! in the future i want to improve on the movement and the moment to moment feel of platforming around, all the feedback helps so much so thanks for this!
Woow, the visuals are really well-made and consistent! It must have taken a ton of work. I also like how the jam’s theme of invincibility is presented in the story.
I did find myself wondering if that could be reflected more directly in the gameplay as well. I feel like there’s some interesting potential there.
Nice job!
Thank you !! good point about the invincibility i did briefly consider making a really hot section that would showcase how invincible you are but i never really thought of a good way to translate that into a mechanic. there is definitely potential there, Thanks !
thanks for the feedback, could you go into specifics about what was boring/ could be improved
for me, the platformer genre itself seems boring, of course, if it's not pizza tower, but everyone has their own taste, don't pay attention
no worries, thanks for playing!
First of all, huge props for the visual identity, it’s really well done and stands out right away. It gave me strong PS2-era vibes, like old SpongeBob or even a bit of Majora’s Mask, which I love. The game is genuinely fun and has that playful charm that makes you want to keep exploring, definitely something that deserves more development after the jam. I’d really appreciate it if you could rate my game too
Thank you so much!! appreciate this
Super cute graphics! Loved the Tardus character! Excellent level design and game mechanics as well. Game felt pretty smooth given the physics based systems. Great work!
Thank Youu!!! level design is always a struggle so thanks for that
Tardus is so cute! I am a fan of platformers and this was a 5/5 of enjoyement. But my boy Tardus was a little slow, I think it's alright.
thanks!! im glad you enjoyed it! thanks for the feedback too
Pretty unique movement mechanic that's really satisfying to master, big fan of the art style as well. Nice work!
Thanks!!!! thats exactly how i was hoping the movement mechanic would feel.
appreciate you!
very cute and bouncy!
Thank you thank you
the game runs very smooth and the character is cute.
