well done! this is a fun concept and it's clear a lot of love went into it c:
My primary critique would be that the upgrades are all focused around farming taking less time without a mechanical incentive to do so. nothing i could buy would improve the efficacy of my farm, only make it take less time to get to the end, and since i'm not on a timer i don't feel a lot of incentive to explore the shop, since theoretically i would get the same result on a run whether i bought any upgrades or not, it would just take longer to plant each seed individually.

artfully made tho, lots of personality in the sprites and designs c:

thank you for playing! i appreciate your thoughts on the design of it :)) yeah that makes sense,  most of these were just standard upgrades that i thought of to help the player get to the end faster to add some progression, but i'll definitely consider upgrades that add a variety of incentives w/ future releases - this is really good feedback!

I like the massive berries and the progression day by day!

The animation when you hold them over a strawberry is hilarious, as are the icons in the shop.

Hotkeys to select tools would have been nice, but they aren't needed! The tractor upgrade felt entirely useless (I didn't buy it until I had all the bottom row finished) and the fertilizer I never felt the need to upgrade past level 1. I just had my one 3x3 that I insta plant and watered, and all the guys came to grab the berries.

Developer

thank you for playing! yeah i initially had hotkeys for the buttons, but took it out because i figured most people would be playing with the mouse anyway - but this is really good insight to see that there are people out there who would like hotkeys in a game like this! definitely makes sense and great food for thought

yeah i know some players ended up not using the tractor at all and optimized the first section, definitely a bit of an issue with the design - i appreciate the thoughtful feedback!

Simple and perfectly fun! This game really gets to that satisfying part straight from the start as you get to grow more. I really enjoyed the animations, sfx, and the funny shop options!

simple game that instantly had me hooked! honestly just satisfying to chill and grow some crops. loved the sfx and thought your ideas for different consumables were interesting and made me want to continue playing to unlock them! also i enjoyed your dev log!!

Developer

thank you for playing!! you're the first person to mention the dev log i made, i appreciate you taking the time to read it =)

A very straightforward and satisfying game! The little pop sounds with interactions make a huge difference with satisfaction. The art is simple but very silly so it totally works for the vibe, I love the shop owner's expressions when you toggle over upgrades, and the way the customers' eyes bug out when they see a strawberry. I think it has potential for different upgrades that change the course of the game. At the moment, the upgrades all change the speed you can clear a level -- but I'm pretty sure the amount of money you earn per round is fixed? It's satisfying to be able to plant faster and faster to keep up with the increased amount of seeds, but an upgrade on "strawberry quality" and how much you make per strawberry could be an interesting addition. I don't mind the fixed pay rate though, I'm just thinking of things that would be interesting to see if you continued with this / made a similar game in the future. :)

Developer(+1)

thank you for playing! i appreciate the lengthy comment, it's really cool to see the insight you had on the experience. and yeah you're correct, the amount you make is fixed! i added some variety with the player possibly getting an extra seed when having a customer pick a berry, but it is all fixed.

these are great suggestions, and i really appreciate the thought behind this - it's cool to see all your observations and notice the small things i added =)

I enjoyed playing. I ended the tenth day with 120 dollars. Sometimes a second seed would be placed in another random square when clicking to place a seed. Perhaps that's intentional?

Developer

thank you for playing! yeah i noticed that bug sometimes when i played as well and couldn't figure out what exactly was causing it haha

The art for this is super sweet, and the eyes popping out of their head animation is absolutely adorable, love it! Very easy to understand the game play loop, really nice job!

Pretty fun! I can see this being expanded very easily too. I especially liked the cohesion between the sounds, art, ui, and the gameplay. The music and art is especially charming.

A lot of people below have already said a lot of what I thought, but one thing to definitely do is increase the hitbox sizes of the tiles. The visual for the tile is much *larger* than the hitbox. When I click, I have to click the small seed, not the larger square-ish tilled land. A bigger hitbox would just make it a little less frustrating to drag your guys there or plant/water your crops.

But otherwise I like this game! Good loop you got there

Developer(+1)

thank you for playing! good suggestions, yeah adjusting the hitboxes was a bit harder with the customers and it definitely hurt the experience a bit, but i appreciate you still playing it through despite that!

Great job mate, simple but very fun incremental! :)
Things I loved:
- Solid loop that I felt like I could've done "better" on (even thought there's no score so to speak)
- The art style is really endearing :)
-  The farmer art + the customers eyes when you hover on are just *chef's kiss* XD
Things I'd love to see:
- To that first point, it'd be cool if you listed a score of some sort (e.g. total money gained, amount of money left in final round, etc) as I definitely could've optimised the purchases I made
- Different berries  would be sick, especially if they had different grow durations / prices (could also see customers with a chance to not be sated with just 1 berry)

- I'm always drawn to a PlateUp! style customer system where they show up and you have to keep up with them rather than being 1-to-1 with the berry output, but obv that's just preference :P

Developer(+1)

thank you for playing! i appreciate the lists you provided, this is very thoughtful and cool to see!

i've never heard of PlateUp! prior to this comment, just checked out the Steam page and it's really cool!

I really enjoyed playing the game! It was a little buggy when I accidently dragged one of the customers to a berry that another was going to get. The lil guy would just be lost…and I felt like a monster ripping the berry from his hands. (That’s a me problem not a you problem. I'm just being dramatic.) The art is wonderful and cozy as can be. The music is very relaxing and I would definitely find myself playing this again and again if I didn't stop myself.

Developer(+1)

thank you for playing! haha yeah that was a bug i was hoping to fix but just re-routing the customer to another berry if it's gone, but didn't get it working in time - so instead the player can just redrag the customer to another berry haha

i appreciate the kind feedback =)

very cute, i love the little guys and the sound effects! was very happy to make them sentient. On day 7 I got stuck because of two watered seeds that just wouldn't grow :(

Developer(+1)

thank you for playing!! haha yeah sentient is super fun once you unlock it!!

aw dang, i apologize that you weren't able to get the full experience!! that is an unfortunate bug with the watering/planting logic that i was not able to fix beforehand, so i apologize for wasting your time on such a game-breaking bug!

but to let you know what happens, at the end of 10 days, there's a closing scene (very similar to the opening scene) where the season ends and the farm cloees for the season, then it loops back to the next year to start the game over as the seamless loop!

Submitted(+1)

Got all the way to day 10! Went for sentience, because the drag and drop was being very finnicky with some plant hitboxes. The music did get a little too loopy, which made it feel less fun for long term play, but other than that, solid game! Would love to see more plant variation and or random events that might occur after a random day!

Developer

thank you for playing!! i appreciate the feedback - those are some good suggestions! yeah i thought about adding variety but kept having to polish the main mechanic so didn't have time to haha

I am in looooove. It’s super comfy and easy to play, instantly understood how to play it and had a blast. Sounds are chef’s kiss, super easy but work like a charm. Cute little guys are indeed very cute and very little, love them to death.

Developer(+1)

thank you for playing! i really appreciate all the kind feedback :,)

Super satisfying to play. Extremely cozy game. The sound design was total ear candy, and the gameplay was simple but addictive. It got especially satisfying once I upgraded the sentience all the way. Outside of unlocking more planting and expanding the plots, that felt like the best next thing to focus on since gathering seemed to take the most time out of all the tasks. I ended up playing all the way past day ten and it looped back around; really nice job on the limitation. The art was fun too, and I liked all the polished little details, like the gatherers' eyes popping out when over a berry.

Developer(+1)

thank you for playing! i really appreciate the lengthy kind feedback  :,)

Submitted(+1)

I really enjoyed playing that one. The game-loop feels very nice, also playing around with the different upgrades. I preferred sticking with only 1 plot in the end, and then just maxing the sentience of the customers and growth speed (since with 33% seed return you end up spending most cycles on one plot anyway), so in that way definitely offers some variance in gameplay and optimisation :) The art is charming, obviously simplistic but it's sweet. I can easily see this extended beyond the 10-days and e.g. adding different crops to grow etc., would be fun. Admittedly, the "seamless" loop feels kind of artificial though, but that's the only criticism I have.

Developer

thank you for playing and extensive review! this is really good feedback and it's cool to see you went along this path of gunning for sentience! i've seen some of my friends playtest and everyone has gone different routes with the shop and it's super cool to see.

and yeah the seamless loop was the last thing i had to design right before the deadline haha

Submitted(+1)

I totally get it, many games have kind of an artificial solution for the seamless loop (me too I'd say), it was a difficult limitation to really implement well :)

Submitted(+1)

Cute game, my only criticism would be the text can be a bit hard to read. The art is super charming and really fits the comfy theme though :)

Developer

thank you for playing! definitely a fair point, i wanted to try and make it as readable as i could with the pixel art but it can be a bit tricky haha. i appreciate the nice comments =)

Submitted(+1)

The game loop is genius. I wonder if there is a way to get all the upgrades or if that is out of the question.

Developer

thank you so much!! that compliment means a lot!

as a last minute design decision, i opted to not let the player get all upgrades in one run to give them incentive to actually go through the loop and play again to try different upgrades haha - probably not the best decision, but i wanted to learn more into giving the player a reason to loop

Submitted

Ohhh, I completely get that. Either way, I had fun :D

Submitted(+1)

I played more than I thought I would haha so good job!

The sound design is pretty good and satisfying so it helped a lot. The progress is maybe a tad slow and the picking part by drag and dropping the little character is funny but a bit tedious in the end. Maybe I would've preferred to be able to "buy"farmers and they would pick the berries automatically? So the more farmers you have the faster it gets collected?

Congrats on the submission!

Developer

i appreciate it!

yeah that makes sense, i also felt that a way bit. i was hoping the sentience upgrade where the customers can walk on their own would help alleviate that feeling, but at the end of the day, there's still some friction of constantly dragging and dropping, but i appreciate the suggestion!!

thank you =)
