Have you modified a Premium Crayon or Kazoo asset in an interesting way? Perhaps you’ve mashed two images together, or produced a neat variation of one of the sounds. Share it here to submit to Volume 1 of the Premium Crayon and Kazoo Asset Pack Community Expansion! Images may be posted here directly (and I encourage you to include at least one as a preview if you can). For audio or larger collections of assets, consider uploading them elsewhere and providing a link.

Once there’s a significant enough selection of images and sounds to form a useful expansion to the asset pack, I’ll bundle them together into a zip file and make it available to everyone for FREE. This will act as a kind of sampler for the asset pack itself, as well as widening the range of items available for those who already own it.

By submitting your work here you agree that it may distributed under the same terms as the Premium Crayon and Kazoo Asset Pack itself: that is, for both personal and commercial use without attribution. However, please do let me know how you’d like to be credited as I’ll name all contributors in the Community Expansion itself.

Here's some of what I got so far. Everything was (obviously) made from mashing chunks of assets together. No credit necessary. Having an absolute blast with this one so just wanted to give something back.

Cobbled these together for the western floor of my dungeon game. Download links below because itch doesn't allow resizing to something reasonable in post.

And here's a preview because the signs actually look really neat with the font.

I have included my modified assets for the community expansion in the downloads for my submission to the Premium Crayon and Kazoo Jam, a GameBoy game titled Enemy Waters. Once you've downloaded the assets, please respond to me in this topic so I can take down the community expansion download from my game's page. Thank you for hosting this jam.

I’ve got them - thanks! Though if there’s any chance you’d be happy to keep them on the page until the jam submission period is over, that would make them available to anyone coming to this thread looking for additional assets (since I almost certainly won’t have the Community Expansion available before the end of the jam). Realistically I don’t know how likely it is that anyone else is going to tackle a GameBoy game in that time, but if they are then having some sprites with the right colour palette and resolution seems as though it could be a significant leg up!

Sounds great! I forgot to say this, but I would also appreciate credit.

Great job on the GB conversions, it's cool how the crayon-ness still comes across pretty well! (I also love your how-to guide on how the process works!!)

Here are the sprite edits I made for my game! Crediting with my username is fine.

The "no arm" version is such a subtle thing but a super good idea!

I've already said it elsewhere but I love your cactus-cowboy edit hahaha 🌵💚 (it works shockingly well!!)

(+3)

I definitely would've used the "no arm" version in my Gunslinger minigame!

Maybe I'll add it if I make a finalized version of the game.

With the initial release of my game, this is my final addition to this round of the community expansion pack. These pics can be downloaded below. I've also consolidated all my additions into a download on my game's page.

Phenomenal work on all of your edits!! 👏👏👏 They really look great (plus are super thematic and/or amusing)!

Now I'm not sure how many of these are "interesting", but here's some of the assets I edited during my impulsive decision to join this jam:

  • A version of the snake strike, quickly edited to be dead. Rip snake.
  • A grayscale version of Adversus's sign/painting. I made this to be used as a textbox, so this could probably be easily used for similar panels. For example I also used this edited textbox for a text input field and various buttons!
  • A VN indicator, a small, darker, grayscale, and rotated play button.
  • My very best attempt at getting a cheer-like sound with the kazoo (the wowowowow pitched up and sped up)

All four of these are available from Google Drive here! I would've included it in my game, but I unfortunately was running out of time and can't update the downloads.

No credit necessary, these are kinda ehh edits anyways (and I wouldn't be comfortable taking sole credit for the textbox -- that was mostly Adversus, after all!)

I loved your dead snake edit—it was perfect!! I didn't actually realize it wasn't an official sprite until I read your post!

(1 edit) (+4)

I absolutely love everything that's been shared so far!!! 💖

I've just compiled what I have into a folder on my own game's page:

I added outlines back in for the sprites where I'd removed them—I'll swap those out in-game after the jam is over, since I feel like the outlines look better after all (at least on the backgrounds I'm using)! But I'm keeping both versions in the pack, just in case the no-outline ones could be of use to someone.

I also included a very rough kazoo music scale, and the new version of Danz Makaz* I managed to build with it. They still use pitch adjustment, but less than the current in-game version, which I hope helps preserve the kazoo-y sound!

* (a kazoo rendition of the skeleton-themed classical tune Danse macabre)

(1 edit)

Oh, and "Allyson Gray" would be perfect for credit (thank you)!!

I was just thinking the other day I needed to make a kazoo scale. Then you come along and save me a bunch of work. I'll be sure to credit you when I inevitably do something stupid with it. Love your skeli edits too. I now realize I'm drastically underutilizing skeletons in my own project.

(1 edit)

The kazoo scale is pretty sloppy but it's seemed surprisingly useable so far, I'd definitely love to hear if you end up making something with it!! (I'm also thinking of eventually packaging up a more complete selection of notes and sounds, maybe for Volume 2)
