oooo this game is so fun! the dialogue is SO charming - all the little flowers are so silly haha the gameplay is really simple and nice - there's a sense of urgency in trying to match as many flowers as i can, but i don't feel TOO pressured to go fast (if that makes sense?). it feels very cozy! also, the art in this is wonderful <3

Developer(+1)

Thank you for the kind words. Very happy you enjoyed the dialogue and art. My wife did all that, so this will be a really nice read for her. And hearing that the game had some urgency without feeling too stressful is especially nice, because that was something I really wanted to get right. Thanks for checking out the game <3

Love everything about this game! The art, the animation, the music. it did take a while to load but definitely worth the wait!

Developer

Thanks for sticking around through the load time, really glad you soldiered through it lol. And thanks for the kind words and for playing :)

So delightful, the hand drawn flower sprites are so cute and fun, and there's a fantastic attention to detail - the animation of the book opening, the satisfying way the honey rushes to the honey pot in the corner, and the little bits of dialogue. My favourite flower is the romantic and ladylike snowdrop, so cute. Congrats on such a great submission, thanks for sharing your game!

Developer(+1)

This was really sweet, thank you. Very happy you noticed the care we put into the animations and dialogue. Especially glad you enjoyed the honey rushing as well. I actually broke that functionality last minute and had to fix it again right before submission, so I’m really glad it made it in. And Snowdrop is a great choice lol. My wife did all the flower art and dialogue, so she’d be really happy to hear that too. Thank you for the kind words and for checking out the game!

Well done for pushing through the honey rushing in spite of difficulties! It put me in mind of how soul is displayed in hollow knight which is obviously a big compliment. Congrats on being in the top ten, very well deserved!

Cute and really thought out game! I assume this is a clever way of teaching flower genetics lol. It was a lot of fun trying to get all the different flowers and discovering all visitors. I can really tell how much effort went  into this to make it an interesting and well rounded game, from the UI animations to the hats. Well done!

My only struggle was the controls especially when interacting with the UI, I would suggest cutting down on how many buttons are used. For example, you need to talk to a flower by pressing E, and in the confirmation menu you need to press Enter to continue. You could just use E again to confirm. Little things like this, where I was just confused about which button to use for what.

Developer (1 edit)

Thank you, really glad you enjoyed it. Lol, hopefully you came out of it at least a little more qualified as a botanist after all that flower matchmaking. So glad to hear you enjoyed all the details we put into it!

And thanks for mentioning the controls too. There actually were a few different buttons set up for interacting and confirming depending on player preference, but the hints were pretty subtle down in the bottom left corner, so I can totally see how that got missed. Space was set up to work for both talking and confirming, and some of the other buttons overlapped too. I do think I missed making E behave consistently in some of those confirm cases, as well as not having Enter set up for interacting, so thanks for pointing those out. Definitely something I need to pay closer attention to in the future.

Really appreciate it, and thanks again for playing :)

if only dating apps were this effective

Great game, love the hand drawn art style and it goes very well with the music and gameplay. I also love how varied the dialogues were. My favorite thing about the game were the visitors, I played through multiple loops just to find them. The gameplay is simple but effective. I enjoyed my time, great job!

Developer(+1)

Lol if only. That was really nice to read. Glad the art, music, gameplay, and all the varied dialogue landed for you. And I especially love hearing that you kept playing through more loops to find the visitors, because we had a lot of fun with those. Thanks a lot for taking the time to play through that all. Really appreciate it!

So much depth in this game, and I really lost time trying to figure out the flower combos. Unfortunately... Left this 2 that I can't seem to figure it out.. I already tried out all combination.

The timing mechanic felt off, or maybe its just my skill issue. Then tutorial was really hard to follow since the white text doesn't stand out too much from background. After understanding how to play the game, it is really fun and cozy.

Developer

Thanks again for playing and for the feedback. I know we already talked a bit on Discord, but I still really appreciate you bringing up the tutorial readability. And yeah, some of the flower discoveries can definitely be a little stubborn because of how the combo logic works. In hindsight, I probably should've let roots overlap. Glad you stuck with it though, and really glad to hear it ended up being fun and cozy for you :)

very cute matchmaking game; game jams as a couples activity, who knew!  I enjoyed all the characters.

I think it would be a bit more fluid if 2nd and 3rd tiers could combine as well.  Maybe I was counting wrong, but I could only get a new breed by combining with one of the base four flowers.  If every root could combine during a match I think it would reduce the rerolls.  Maybe it would require a higher match to be successful?  So base flowers require a less perfect match to create a breed, and better matches can combine more roots at a time.  Then maybe Omnipotus requires a perfect match, but with more breeds with 2 and 3 roots it's not too rough.

I kept having to reroll for daffodil, even though I had the other daffodil breeds in the garden.

That frog knows the forbidden knowledge.  It weighs on him as he clings to it.

Developer

This was really fun to read, thank you. Glad you enjoyed all the characters.

And yeah, the flower combination logic was actually something my wife and I went back and forth on a lot. She was actually in favor of allowing the later tiers to combine through root overlap, more like you described. I thought that might make things too easy, but looking back, I think that probably would've been the better call, especially for jam pacing and cutting down rerolls. We also talked about making higher quality matches and minigame performance to increase the likelihood of discovering the rarer flowers, which I still think would've been a fun way to handle it. Funny enough. Omnipotus was meant to be the final flower to get, but because of how the logic ended up working, he was actually easier than intended XD. The third-gen flowers ended up being tougher.

Thanks again for the thoughtful feedback :)

As for the frog, yes, Aristotle longs for his past life of ignorance and innocence.

The shopkeeper is so cute! Really impressed with all the little mechanics you managed to get in here. The art style is not something I've really seen before in a game. The music was on point as well. Great work!!

Developer

The shopkeeper love makes me happy lol. Really glad you enjoyed the little details we put in there and the music! My wife will be very happy to read the art compliment. Thanks for the kind words and for playing :)

This is so nice!! I love the way you themed the pollination as matchmaking, its so cute! The art style is really nice and your animations are very effective. The flowers you made up for the crosses look great. All of the different species having there own personality is so good! Finus Omnipotus is so stuck up LOL. I enjoyed finding the bonus animal friends too :)

There are a lot of little touches here which show the quality of effort you have put in. Really fantastic! The end of day feels a little arbitrary but good fitting in the limitation, I did a much worse job of it haha.

Your little hats/accessories are adorable and such a cute finishing touch. Maybe consider if the shop was just for the cosmetics, move the "Reset flower" option outside so its easier to notice / access, and not bother with speed improvements? They kind of seemed like upgrades just for the sake of upgrades.

Developer

This was such a nice comment to read, thank you. I'm really glad you enjoyed the flowers, visitors, and the matchmaking system. We had a lot of fun with Finus Omnipotus, and fun fact, that's one of the few flowers I came up with myself. My wife then brought it to life with the art, animations, and dialogue, so that one being called out specifically got a laugh out of me. She put a ton into the art and animation overall, so she'd be really happy to hear all of that too.

And yeah, I think that's fair on the shop stuff. The speed upgrades probably could have been cut. The flower refresh used to have a bit more purpose too, since earlier on we had 8 shared traits total, and there were a lot more cases where flowers just wouldn't have matches. But after playtesting, we cut it down because it was happening too often. The two traits that got removed were gym and pina colada haha. You're definitely right though, the refresh probably could've lived somewhere else outside the shop, like on a little wooden sign in the middle of the board or something.

Thanks again for playing and for such thoughtful feedback :)

Wow this game is just beautiful. I love all of the finishing touches and my god those little cosmetics!! The animals to find were also a lovely little touch. Very impressive that you two were able to create this in such a short time span. Nice job!!

Developer

Thanks! This was a really nice read. Glad you enjoyed all the little touches we added. My wife put so much into the art, and we both worked hard to make the game feel charming and full of details, so it means a lot to hear you enjoyed it. Thanks a lot for playing :)

The games really well made and very well polished , and the art was really good especially the flowers .This game has quite the thought behind it , tho as of i am playing there's a bug where you cant open the shop.

Developer (3 edits) (+1)

Thanks a lot, glad the polish and flower art stood out to you. And sorry about the shop bug, I hadn’t run into that one myself. I’ll look into it. Thanks for playing and for letting me know :)
