I wrote about the game up on Medium. https://medium.com/@x_48243/game-jamming-and-the-industrial-revolution-3fc897b11082

I do think the controls requires some polishing & the hitbox of the enemy might be a bit too unforgiving, the range of my hammer is not long enough for a contact kill.(The enemy did killed me tho :C) I really like the hand drawn sprites.

Thank you for playing through. As soon as the jam is over I’ll publish all those hitbox fixes. I basically finished the art and then had 12 hours left in the jam to do the coding part.

I couldn't play it because it costs money, and I don't have a bank account because I'm too young to open one. However, I rated your game five stars.

Developer

It’s free to play and open source. I do have an optional donate set up on Itch, which is a default sort of thing.

I'm sorry I didn't focus properly, but it's a fantastic game with a great concept. Wow!

Nice work! I really like the theme of the game and the hand-drawn graphics! I also think the music fits really well! I found the timing to hit the enemies pretty difficult, and I think that it probably wasn't intended, since the death happens just before the enemy touches you. I think the difficulty could be lowered by adding health if this was intentional. I would also be fine with no combat, just beating up a bunch of machines and checking out the awesome artwork! Wish I could have fought ai as the final boss, that is hilarious. Great work and such a unique execution. Keep it up!

Thank you so much! I love the game jam format that is pedal to the metal, and going with what you have even if not polished yet (which is what happened for me). I set it so the player has 1 hp in the main stage (like a little Mario), and then 10 or so when battling the boss, because being hit by a laser is part of the whole scene.

One more note, if you didn’t make it to the boss, press 9 that will warp you to the scene.

Nice! I just fought the boss it was really satisfying hammering the laptop/ai. I was able to just spam attack and tank the damage. But it was really fun!

I didn’t expect the hand-drawn sprites to look this good—they create such a unique art style. I just wish I could get a weapon that’s long enough.

Developer

Thanks on the art. Experimenting with handmade art and procedural level generation where my two main goals in this jam.

Yes, I’m working on the hitbox and hurtbox fix, stay tuned for the post gamejam update. On attack a new hitbox spawns right in front of the player extending the reach. Also the soldier hitboxes have been tuned.

Thank you so much for playing through, and sharing feedback. I appreciate it!

The hand drawn style is so fresh and looks amazing, but found the combat a bit tough... hitting the enemies feels a little off.

Developer

Thanks for the note about the art! I know about the hitbox issue with the adversaries – that will be my first fix for the revised version after voting.

The art is awesome. found it's easier to hit by just standing still and attacking while waiting for them to come to you.

Developer

Thanks about the art! That is a good tactic for fending off the soldiers.

I love the art style! For gameplay, It was a bit hard to hit the enemies. I also want to understand the placements of boxes and carts too as nothing happens now. Overall, I really like it.

I like the hand drawn style, the hitting collision may need some review but great work overall, I would like it had more animations for character/enemy

Personal rating: 2 cats (🐱🐱📦📦📦)

Developer

Thanks! I did the art first – the release after the game jam voting will have a hit-box fix.

I was victorious today! It will be nice if the character can crouch. That short laptop was hard to hit. Good luck!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing! Yes, I wished I had time to implement a crouch – and the adversaries firing which would make it even better. Still have memories of Samus crouching and turning into a ball to explore more spaces.
