I can appreciate an entry that not only gives you a tutorial and display options, but also lets you lose a tutorial level while struggling with your own incompetence.
Game was fun and to the point. I had a particularly unusual bug with the ants where they would be moving left and right constantly and spamming a collision sound, but this seemed mostly just a me issue. A lot of good effort and polish went into this entry, and you can feel it.
Final level seemed unusually spooky at first, but the ending put the final pieces in place. Overall loved the entry, good work.
Oh right, I guess I should say I struggled because of a "missing control" of sorts. You can throw flowers while in the air, but I didn't realize you could only throw them upwards while on the ground, so I struggled a bit trying to jump and throw them upwards during the final level.
The art, sound, and concept are great. Similar to the other 2 games with timers, the flower timer needed to be longer (or adjustable via difficulty) or include more heals. There was a persistent bug where thrown items could stick to walls and become irretrievable, leading to soft locks or death. Not sure if that was a hit box issue or not.
The items getting stuck is unfortunately a bug that we couldn't fix no matter how much we try. A lot of it has to do with tweaking item speed to stop the item from skipping into walls per frame, and we've done as much as possible without it taking away from the impact of the item's movement. It's why we implemented a retry feature instead in case it softlocks the game.
I tried so hard, and came so close. But in the end, it doesn't even matter.
This is incredibly well done!
This is amazing! It cleverly uses the theme, it's unique, it's gameplay is smooth and creative, the graphics use the mostly monotone palette perfectly, and the music is top-notch! What's not to love about Atan's Garden Quest?
Well... I guess the control scheme can be a bit odd with grabbing and throwing being separate buttons: it can be clunky to use a separate button when you almost never want to just drop the flower and I often do the wrong action. Ultimately a minor nitpick in an otherwise excellent game, defeating the enemies by throwing the flower at them is tons of fun! I love the ranking system, too. S rank on my replay!
