An interactive retelling is definitely not what I expected to see in this game jam, but I was really interested to see how you made it.
Lovecraft is always a good choice and I liked how you presented the story.
I’d love read more in this format
I like where this is headed! The overall atmosphere and sound design was quite good--I especially liked the typewriter clicks and dings. Would love to see more done with sound to really sell it. I did also find having a ton of the letters within the first few screens a bit of an information overload for backstory, and made it a little harder to really get into the story. I think if there weren't as many frontloaded, the pacing would improve. All in all though, great start, can't wait to see where this one goes! :)
Strong foundation! Liked the ambiance, but as others have noted dropping in some other sfx would help.
The writing overall was pretty good, but it got a bit stiff and stodgy at times and could probably be refined.
Equipping the belt manually was a little tiresome and unnecessary. In fact, all the choices that required you to go back and choose the other option were kinda tedious. I found myself hoping for some actually branching choices.
The text is really good. As a suggestion, I'll add sounds for certain scenes (owls for the night, sea waves for the boat, etc). I think it could make it more inmmersive :)
What a phenomenally well told story. I LOVED the use of sound for immersion, simple but effective and a completely different game without it. I was sad to see it unfinished, I'm curious to see how the rest of the expedition takes places and the decisions you can make.
This is a really cool system for storytelling.
I could see this being expanded into a more complete experience really well.
It's an interesting read, I think there are ltos of rooms for a more immersive experience since the text is already good.
