Spring for the win! Storing magic and then using it to increase attack damage or heal is a good concept! Once I understand how it works, I stack the magic I stored and then use it to increase my attack so I can do burst damage to winter :) I also like the transition and background effects during battles. Keep up the good work!
The combat with the storing magic mechanic is interesting!! its easy to see that you had a very well-thought-out idea, and if you'd had more time, you would have executed it perfectly. Even so, the game is fun! I would only add a health bar to Winter to have clearer feedback on the effectiveness of attacks. Great job!
The plan was to show the damage when Winter would take damage and add some VFX as feedback, but... I just forgot about it. And about time: Funnily enough, I think not taking breaks more often was the problem. It would've saved me from working for too long on things that clearly wouldn't work. And soooorry for late reply.
It's actually a very great concept for this game jam! I really liked the art that you did; some areas looked nice! I would've loved to know if I won against Winter or not; it kind of just throws me back to the main menu, so maybe like an animation of you losing or Mr. Winter losing a scene would be amazing, and you can take that to your advantage and add greenery, like flowers and things, to the scene to show off the spring side of it. That being said, I liked the game and would love to see future updates on it! Awesome work!
I actually had the idea for a cutscene at the beginning showing the "Winter World", which would turn into the "Spring World" when Winter was defeated, but it unfortunately didn't make the cut. Aaaand sorry for late reply.
Storing up the magic points to use on different actions was a really creative decision. I don't know if I've seen a magic combat system implemented that way before but I'm quite a fan.
I haven't seen it either, and I'm definitely going to experiment with it a little more when I have time. And soorry for late reply.
I really like the art style, it gives off a “more detailed Earthbound” style that I really like! I dont usually play turned based RPGs but this one was pretty simple and straightforward.
Earthbound was actually the reason for experimenting with turn-based combat(and F&H, love that game) in the first place, haha. Sooorry for late reply btw.
The combat system is actually not that bad. I really enjoy turn based combat with timings, I don't know why games don't do those more often. Mr Winter Sir also looks good. The overworld could need a bit more polish but it was fun to kick Winters butt.
Soorry for late reply, and yeah, I also wished more games had timing systems. The extra depth it gives to combat is incredible and gives room to design some very cool systems. And about the overworld: yes, it needed a lot more polish lol.
