The art style is amazing!!!!! It's so charming and reminds me of Edutainment games back in the 90s and 2000s. I absolutely love it!

Developer

Thanks a lot! I'm very happy you like it.

Your cover does not catch this gorgeous art style AT ALL - I'm not sure if anything but playing the game does though! It's a real jam's gem (rhymes!).

The hand-drawn everything + visibly slow "flipbook animation" style is one of my favorites for the whole jam.

The bosses are adorable too! And the shrink theme is covered :) The patterns are fun; I especially loved the arcade machine ones.

Thanks for the game!

Thanks for playing! I'm very happy you like it.

Love the art style :)

Developer

Thanks! I'm very happy you do.

I loved the hand drawn graphics! It gives the game so much life and personality! I guess alittle pet peeve of mind would be an option to restart the game everytime i die. Though overall solid entry!

Developer(+1)

Thanks, I'm very happy you like it.

You can ESC to pause then (Q)uit to menu from there (maybe I should also have an instant (R)estart command although that might be double-edged as you wouldn't want to unintentionally press it ;) ).

Submitted(+1)

Amazing game too !

I especially love the graphics. The handraw artworks that are animated in a few frames brings so much. It could really be the art for a finished and polish game. The bullet patterns are so cool to play with, the upgrades are so satisfying especially if you manage to stack them.

I spent so much time trying to beat the game on hard mode but I'm not good enough lol, I gave and beat it in normal mode on the first try after that. I think that I'll come back later to try to beat it in hard.

Probably my favorite submission, and surely the game I spent the most time on. Insane job !

Also, if you press WASD key + arrow key at the same time you double your speed, it's a fun mechanic

Developer(+1)

Ahah yes, I caught this at some point and left it that way as it doesn't matter.

I can't consistently beat the game on hard, beating it on normal during the jam is already pretty good, congratulations.

Thanks a lot for spending so much time on the game and the kind words, I'm very happy you like it!

I loved the style, the humor, and the overall concept. I visited your page, and caught my attention how consistent everything felt around that vision — it hooked me, I want to play your other games in the future as well.

The idea of adding feedback for every projectile was great, especially since the bosses are so large. The transformations are really cool too, with a lot of variety in the shooting patterns, although I found them pretty brutal :) especially the arcade machine one. But it is a bullet hell game, that is what we expect.

I also liked the music, though I felt the volume was a little too high — but that’s a very minor issue compared to the overall experience.

Developer

Thanks! I'm happy you like it. Thanks also for the feedbacks, I'll probably launch some games just to set my Master Volume the same.

Super cute. It remembers me a little bit the style of Yoshy Woolly World. Great job!

Developer

Thanks! I'm happy you like it and certainly appreciate this parallel ;) .

What cute art, I love it! ^^ The game is super fun and I really love the shrinking idea, especially the arcade machine part :D

Great job overall, well done!

Managed to beat it on Hard on my second attempt. Stylish and expressive game as always - I also see that it uses Love 2D this time, curious what brought up the switch and how you feel about the engine so far?

I'm not sure if Hard is the intended difficulty and what's the difference between it and Easy/Normal, though overall I appreciate how much variety there was in attacks. Many of them were pretty fun to solve, there was even one (castle boss I think) where I solved it by moving up/down in rhythm with the sound effects - intended or not, I do love when several aspects of the game interact like that.

Only issue gameplay-wise was with the yellow homing bullets, especially ones shot by the gun-like boss - it didn't seem like it was possible to outrun or confuse them, they would always lock onto you precisely, and even if you try moving behind them for a sure-fire way to dodge there would usually be a few more yellow homing shots waiting for you. For that pattern I just had to eat hits (already spent all bombs on one of the previous bosses) and hope the phase ends soon.

One other thing is the tickrate of bullets, enemies and player - I'm not sure if a bug or not, but the way player/bullets moved wasn't very smooth, it was pretty easy to see when you compare those to the speed of moving background objects at the top/bottom of the screen. I got used to it eventually, but it did mess with my senses a bit.

Despite that, great work as always, congrats on making another stylish game. Thank you for sharing!

Developer(+1)

Congratulations, hard in two tries is crazy! The difference is only numbers, but then hard and easy are night and day.

Löve2D is great. I was getting bored of JAVA for various reasons : the JRE takes too much place, the Sound and Music base libraries are super convoluted, also broadly wanted to change because my pages keep getting quarantined, and it turns out I realised, after testing the very base functions of Love and also noticing that drawing images (so essentially bullets) with an angle was easier, that it was also possible to share a browser version of a game made with Love that would likely get people less nervous to try than my downloadable versions of quarantined games.

The game was balanced on Normal but I had some time to try a bit on Hard and, while it's far beyond my skill level to fight the gun for long without getting hit, unlike the pink homing bullets the yellow homing bullets gradually decelerate and a single phase of its yellow bullets can be gone through by going back and fourth in both direction until all the bullets reach a null speed.

Synchronisation with sound effects was definitely unintended, glad you faced this cool coincidence.

Between a lack of synchronisation between refresh rate and update rate and decimal position of objects you're completely on point about the tickrates, I need to seriously check and fix that.

Thanks a lot for playing and the detailed feedback, I'm very happy you enjoyed the game!

Extremely fun, and difficult at it. I will admit, getting past the arcade machine on Hard is not possible for me (some attacks are too fast/pulsing for me to see them properly >.<), but Normal and Easy are doable. Thank you for the option to choose difficulty!

The difficulty is a little out of place place, I think, for certain bosses. The arcade machine feels extremely difficult for a 4/5th boss, with that wavy attack pattern (the green and violet one), but it's not a deal-breaker. I think it might be just me being bad at the game :P

I really love the designs of everything, from the menu itself to the bosses, and the simple but catchy music. The sound design can feel a tiny bit irritating later on, but nothing serious. I really like that you show the player's actual hitbox within the bear sprite, too (Why didn't we think of that lmao)

The upgrades feel very natural and rewarding, and I like that you lose them in stages rather than all at once when you get hit.

I think the only thing this game is missing is a health bar for the bosses. You get a feel for them after a few playthroughs, though.

Overall, a definitive 10/10, no questions asked!

The art style is really nice for the game, I like that a lot and how the bosses look, it fun how they change form as they got smaller. The gameplay fun too, patterns was good, it felt challenging but unfair so quite enjoyed that aspect too. The style and art what I love most about this game, music also simple but fit very nicely for the game.

Main thing I had problem with was the controls, it was hard for me press some of them and hands was cramping as bit too spread out. Accidently change screen size too when I tried to press control to slow down.

Overall very good fun game with great art, very nice work on it

Developer

Thanks, I'm very happy you like it.

Which keys did you use and which ones would you have preferred? It won't take long to add an additionnal scheme next time.

Submitted(+1)

I found using arrows was easier to use to use with the shooting. It was mainly the slow down I had bit of problem trying to use, crtl would be fine but it triggered other things like changing the window size and tab was not easy for me to use combine with shooting. So maybe X key and H key or other keys close to the shooting keys be easier

Developer(+1)

Thanks!

The game is pretty and challenging, this is the kind of difficulty I thought would be in bullet hell jam haha. I tried it on Hard but my best progress was in the last part of the second boss, so I went on Normal and could beat the game. It’s nice to see how little changes in the game change the difficulty enough to be noticeable haha

The patterns are good, makes you move and stand still mixing it between those 2 without being exaggerated on difficulty. I really like the phases on the bosses and the power ups they drop, those snowball hard if you don’t die much, the song isn’t repetitive and fits nicely with the game. I can’t decide which boss is my favorite because visually I like them the same, but in patterns I guess I like the second boss the most

Great game with nice difficulty, I had fun! :)

Developer(+1)

Congratulations and thanks for a lot for playing and the kind words, I'm always surprised too by how these very small number tweaks make a game quickly go from manageable to overwhelming (I guess all the more when you lose a power-up each time you die).

Absolutely love the visual style. Unique, fun, and charming.

I loved the spritework of the bosses and backgrounds, and the bullet patterns.

The framerate of the gameplay felt kinda low and when combined with the large play area and small size of the player character and bullets it made it kind of hard for me to see at times.

I initially felt as though some of the patterns took too long but on a second play I think they lasted the correct amount of time if a little on the long side - the feeling of collecting and stacking the weapons and powerups to make the fights go faster was really good.

I was not much of a fan of the music but it definitely felt homegrown and had its charm.

After 2 attempts, cleared with a score of 1510330

Also the arcade cabinet being named "MISUNDERSTOODMAN" made me smile for some reason

Developer

Congratulations!

Your comment about the pattern length is interesting as I made them longer than in my previous games, and then the right length might be in-between. Also you're on point about the music, as we don't really know what we're doing but we're doing it anyway.

Thanks for playing, and for the detailed feedback!

Very nice game. You've got my attention from the main menu, from the soundtrack how the menu items look and animate. Such attention to detail. As you get into the game, the loop is interesting and fits the theme but once again I got sidetrack studying visuals details and for me, out of all, the parallax background was le piece de resistance! GG

Developer (1 edit)

Thanks, I'm happy you appreciated the background as I spent an indecent time tuning it because I kept not being happy with the result.

I really enjoyed playing this game. Arts and sounds are amazing! The bullet patterns are really cool and hard.

and the bullets patters were so well made. i'm very impressed that u made this under 10 days great job :D

Strong submission! the art on this is fantastic, and the gameplay has solid feedback. It's a bit too hard for me, but i understand i'm not often the target audience for this genre. Yeah this is a really strong submission, great job c:

Developer

Thanks a lot, I'm happy you like it. Not sure whether you played in easy but easy is indeed already hard anyway.

Submitted (1 edit) (+1)

Very nice bullet patterns and the difficulty was great, the art is amazing, it reminds me of Cup Head with the side scroll and cartoonish style, I don't know what the item drops did, it was very fun and I wanted to finish it but the game seemed very laggy and felt very difficult for me to keep track of things.

Developer

Thanks a lot, I'm very happy you like it. Some items add extra bullets, others increase the shooting frequency or add a drone.
