The artwork is beautiful. It's a good start to the project, the world is now simulated and now things can start happening. Good Luck!
Nice job! Like other's are saying this game was very ambitious. The foundation of the game is there and super impressive. Like you said yourself, more content would really tie things together.
Also just noticed you submitted 9 seconds before deadline, you're a mad man!
This game definitely is really ambitious. I can't believe you managed to make a procedurally generated world in 3 days which I highly respect. Of course, there are some tradeoffs with the polish and the audio but other than that, good job!
Yeah, it actually took a lot less time than you'd think to get the procedural gen part working. Same principles as something like minecraft, just at a simpler level.
Initial version had two scales of noise that I sampled for height and moisture to determine water/dirt/grass placement. And then I just spawned random foliage per square based on a different kind of noise. That got me to 90% of what you see in this version. I wasn't happy though with fully random foliage though and so for the end result I got a little fancier and have independent noise channels for each foliage type to get the "density" of foliage at each spot, and then roll a random foliage based on the weighted random list generated based on that. That got pretty good clumping and mixing of various tree types and such, so thats where I left it.
Then, I just save out the changes that the player makes to the world so that we don't respawn trees they cut down or re-grow dirt that was planted on, etc.
Wow this game has great bones and love the direction you are going with it. Hope you continue to develop it after tha jam!
Yup! already have it in the shape I was hoping for by the end of the jam, and continuing to work on it past that. Will post those updates to itch once the jam voting is closed.
Wow, amazing! In some ways it even feels like an improved version of mine haha. I also tried making a character editor and a top‑down game, but I didn’t manage to finish it.
Really cool concept, a farm sim with an autonomous farmer. I personally think the theme "everything has a cost" means "everything the player does has a cost or consequence". Most games usually have some resources and costs, and I think the theme has more to do with the difficult decisions that come when nothing is free. Therefore I can't really say this fits the theme that well, but it is quite technically impressive. I think the building systems you plan on implementing will make this alot better, giving the player more customizability with the farm. I also find the controls a bit difficult to work with, with the camera being a bit nauseating to control. Overall, cool stuff, I look forward to what you turn this into if you continue working on it!
I liked this game but i had a hard time controlling it and it was difficult to understand. overall an amazing game.
Very cool concept. Had some issues spawning in ocean, etc; but once I made a new save file all was fixed.
Damn, I never knew I needed an "idle farm sim." Fun idea, buggy, but when it was working it was fun to just watch my little dude go about his work. Very chill game, nice idea, would love to see more.
Hey, I checked out your game and I was impressed by the amount of different properties of crops, seeds, environment... your game had. Really unfortunate that there isn't that much gameplay besides walking around and watching the player to plant seeds (or did I miss something?). I would have really liked to see what else you had in mind. Maybe you can someday finish it in another GameJam that allows this? That would be great.
Yeah, I wanted to flesh it out with a building system and animals and such. There is a crafting system too that exists but just not surfaced outside of a dev menu yet since you can't actually build the crafting table, etc. Going to continue updating it after the gamejam too, at least to get the current half finished and more interactive content surfaced.
