Damn, it is stressful. Engine picking is rough. I don’t think I ever finished a lap not in 6th place.

Developer

Thanks for playing and for giving feedback! I will nerf the engine in the next version, for sure!

Stressful but in a way that feels intentional! The tutorial seemed simple enough, but I really liked how things got out of control so quickly.

I'm not sure if it's how the template works or a deliberate choice, but in Oblivion's lockpicking, there's a short window where the tumbler remains at the top after bumping it, and in this fast-paced environment, not having that meant that unless I was frame-perfect at fixing the engine, I was basically doomed.

Overall I think if it were a little less punishing I'd have a better time with it, but it's a really strong concept that's still fun in spite of its brutality.

Developer

Hmm, I just got one of the templates and I haven't modified it, apart from setting the built-in difficulty to normal (also I didn't play Oblivion yet).

But I wanted to have the lockpicking game be more forgiving anyway and doing that fix sounds like the thing to do. It seems having the engine fail punishes you just way too much.

Thanks for the feedback and for trying my game!

Truly nightmarish in a way that I believe is nearing perfection. I absolutely almost got filtered by the tutorial where I could not complete the lockpicking segment, so it became very clear to me that the only path to success was to ensure that my engine simply never take damage.

My favorite of the mechanics was the oil tank, which makes sense since it wasn't the lockpicking I couldn't do, and the other two were just spam clicking :P But it was nice in that you could clearly see problems approaching and it gave you some time to fix them. It also wasn't an immediate fail state (even if close) if a single leak spring for a fraction of a second.

Having to spam click as fast as possible was a bit of a limiting factor on how long I could play, and I was far more beat up than my engine was before the three laps were over. I could see this concept having a lot of promise if it were slowed down by several factors and didn't demand so much physicality out of the player. But the one-mouse-band approach of running all the different car systems was fun, and the art was cute, and the music was fitting, so overall I had a pretty fond impression of the game :)

Developer

Thanks for playing and for the extensive feedback! It is much appreciated!

I think I mainly need to make the lockpicking minigame easier, it is difficult enough to keep track of everything else.

I didn't think about spamming as a deterrent for some players, but it completely makes sense. This is really valuable feedback.

I might replace the wheel spamming with a rhythm minigame, like the generator minigame in Dead by Daylight, but easier.

The fan spamming I might replace with either keeping the mouse pressed on it or having to physically rotate the mouse to spin it (although this might be even more physically demanding for the player's wrist ':) ).

Also, I'm really happy you found the music fitting. I have no experience at making music (obviously), but as long as it doesn't make players close the game, it is good enough for now.

I liked it pretty well for how stressful it was. (I didn't like the concept at first 'cause i can't handle stress that well) I actually really liked it though! I also got fifth in my fastest, so I was probably playing too safe 😅.

Thanks a lot! I'm glad you've enjoyed it (as stressful as it is)!

It needs adjustments for sure, I think it can be too difficult. Most of the people that played haven't finished on 1st place, which should be a challenge, but not (so) impossible.

This was very chaotic and very fun. I absolutely loved the fact that by the end of the race my oil tank was more duct tape than oil tank.

Developer

Thanks for playing! I'm glad you've enjoyed it.

Yea, it gets pretty busy visually on the oil container. But it has its charm, I guess.

the sound design really helps you keep everything in mind, which really helps when you have four different things to be doing at all times. it really made me feel like a tiny rat inside a screaming metal death trap.

had a great thing going until my entire engine exploded meters before the finish line

Developer

Thanks for playing! I'm glad you've enjoyed it!

Yea, the engine exploding at critical moments could be a key moment in the game.

It sure needs a lot of fine tuning, I don't think the game is yet balanced to be both difficult and fair.

Thanks for playing! I'm glad you've enjoyed it.

Haha, I didn't think of FNAF, but it makes sense with distributing you attention and the tension.
