Do you lose some health with time or when shooting or something? I ended up recording myself to check if wasn't dreaming of sometimes dying to the boss with no enemy projectile around ;) , and it happened at one point.

Developer(+1)

Yes, the player loses health over time...

In the second boss battle, some weak melee enemies were supposed to spawn so the player could heal...

But there wasn't time to add it, sorry...

Oh thanks, it all makes sense now. Because I'm dumb I never realised the enemies were leaving health. I concluded the particules didn't damage me yet in the doubt was avoided it anyway since I've been consistently reaching the boss now. That also means I have to do some more tries where I bring as many weak enemies as possible with me to the boss since currently they're coming with you. I haven't beaten it yet anyway.

The game is fun. The settings, art and 2 tunes are all cool and fit very well together and both sequences also fit, they are fun and pretty much adequate for the jam with the right speeds of bullets and all.

Besides the lack of feedback on hits the inertia on the character is also unnecessary at best for my taste.

I've been wondering : Are you invincible while you're dashing? I've no opinion either way, just think it's useful information.

Thanks for sharing!

Developer(+1)

I must admit that inertia is a bug caused by the dash...

In the updated version I already added iframes, but during the jam I didn't know how...

And of course there's a lot I'm fixing for next week, like:

death menu,

functional options,

bugged reflections,

secondary weapon selection (I made 3 secondary weapons but didn't know how to implement data persistence and it ended up not going to the jam),

the boss itself (in some tests the weapons would detach from the body)...

The aesthetics are easily the strongest part of this game. I like the difficult controls, but it takes a moment to learn them. Would love to see your visuals and game design knowledge applied to a bigger project.

Developer(+1)

Thanks a lot... I have to admit that the slide wasn't 100% intentional lol...

Very atmospheric. The pixel art, soundtrack, and particle effects all work really well together. The character sometimes slides around more than I’d like, but I still had a lot of fun playing. It has a ton of personality.

Thanks for the feedback...

I must admit I enjoy making art a little more than programming...

Thema fits really well and idea its also good. Congrats !

But controls feels not smooth actually when move my character like sliding and i couldn`t control it really well. Also Area borders (particle effect) its little bit distract the player i guess that we`ll be change for next updates.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the feedback... I'll update the game after the jam with the fixes...

Feel free to ask for anything if you want...

hardcore helsing vibes here haha. Love the aesthetics.

Great first entry, i'd advise you brighten your thumbnail, as i thought i'd already rated this game and almost glossed over it completely in the darkened "already rated" thumbnails.

Movement is a bit floaty, but the pixel art is solid solid work and the shooting felt great. I'd love to see you expand this and grow as a developer, great job c:

Thanks for the feedback, I've already made the cover clearer...

I must admit I tried to implement an acceleration/friction mechanic, but as the player gets smaller, things glitch a bit...

ufff these particles are niceee

Really cool particle effects in this game, both from the dash and the enemy deaths. Using that effect on the title screen was stylish too. Switching between the two weapons was cool, and the dash felt very effective. I especially liked using it to recover from the momentum when switching directions. It made movement feel a little more controllable once I got used to it. The animations were really smooth too, and I liked the main character's design. The weapon switching gives the game a nice base to build on. Cool concept overall.

Thanks man...
I'm glad you liked it...
Maybe after the jam I'll add more content monthly and make the boss a little easier...

Nice little run n gun game

I like the 2 weapons you can switch to anytime system and the akimbo pistols.

The dash is a nice feature as well it feels like it has the right duration / cooldown too.

The game seems to have a few small issues on 2 fronts, technically there seems to be a few crashes here and there (seemed to crash for me every time i died) and design wise this really needs a UI for stuff like player health, when you can fire the pistols again (i assumed the delay was a reload) and i also couldn’t tell if i was making any damage to the guy in the car.

Other than that the game definitively has some qualities, your spritework for instance is really great, i like the main character’s design and the weapons (especially the bigger sprites you see on the tutorial screen)

I know you mentioned it’s a placeholder, but it does feel a bit weird to have Alucard on the title screen though XD

Regardless cool concept, good job :)

Thanks for the feedback, man...
It'll be very useful for me to improve my second game...
I really have to say, if you mess with the UI, then the death freeze must be related to that...

No worries jams are meant to test stuff and i’m sure your games will improve as you hone your skills more ^^

Liked the feel of the dash mechanic, and the particle effects look great! Also love the cover art!

Lack of sound and ui elements. Looks good, feels a little icy to control, but a good game overall
