Hey, first of all I wanted to say I love the game, I'm having a lot of fun with it. I really enjoy creating my own story in the game, and since I write stories as a hobby, this game is perfect for me. I wanted to ask if it will ever be possible to marry NPCs and have children with them, and if it is possible to marry NPCs to NPCs and if they can then have children. I'm currently trying to set Rosalyn up with Haydan.

And thank you for making the game available in German as well!

Heck, I bet you can edit an NPC to be married to another NPC or to %PLAYER_NAME% right now.

But children? I think it might be better if they weren't added. For obvious reasons.

How can I modify the default NPCs?

Also interested in this, as well as creating custom NPCs.  I looked through the Editor options in 1.7.0 and I see I can designate things about the custom NPC (Alexia).  But I don't know how to actually add them to the game.  Did some searching online, and I'm finding bits and pieces of stuff that may or may not be relevant anymore.  Something about using Trellis for the sprites, another thing about generating art for the character.  But nothing technical, like how to actually get said art/sprites in the game itself.

Is there a basic walkthrough anywhere?  I can look up tutorials and put in the necessary elbow grease myself, I just need to know where to start.  What tools, what order, etc.

Ok, after finagling with the custom creator, I figured out how to actually get the Alexia NPC in the game and modify some of her settings.  Still working on trying to figure out how to create a character file, which I assume contains the sprite and character art.  Haven't had any luck on finding out how to do that yet.

For a quick and dirty you'll need an image of the character you are going to use. If you don't have one, have an AI generate one for you using CivitAI Pony Diffusion v6 XL with the No Artist Style; Smooth 2, LoRa. If you don't care about style use Perchance furry generator. You'll want a full-body portrait in 2:3, around 2k resolution though it can be less, with a neutral pose, and a simple plain background for background removal.

Look online for a free 2d to 3d model converter to make a 3d mode of your character. You should get a .glb you can import during character creation for your directionals.

Use one of the many online tools to upscale your image, 2k-3k is fine, and remove the background, making it a .png file. Import the image and .glb and that's the bare minimum you'll need.

Looks like I'm learning some new stuff in my free time, today!  Thank you so much!

No problem. I highly recommend using perchance's ai furry generator, making sure to use the ai prompt enhancer tool. Makes it look good, like 90% of the time, then go find some site to enhance/upscale the image and remove background. Much faster than learning civit.ai's tag prompt and hierarchy, and you only get so many tries a day while figuring it all out.

If you’re already subscribed to NovelAI for text, it’s image gen is also not the worst thing in the world with the game, you can use a vibe file with the Silverpine art and the built in furry dataset and get some halfway decent results.

I did take some time to register with CivitAI and give them a fair shot.  I couldn't figure out the No Artist Style, Smooth 2, LoRa you mentioned earlier.  Probably an additional filter I had to add on with the Add+ button, but couldn't find a perfect match.

I also took a look at perchance, too.  Much simpler, and will probably be what I'm going to try moving forward.  I barely started looking at 2D to 3D sites.  Found a free one and it generated a model fully grey?  Might've just been because it was free.  I'll search around and try a few others later on.  Thanks again for your help.  You're awesome!

I know exactly the issue you're having with Civit.AI, when selecting the LoRa be sure to be in the Create panel that opens on the side. Choose Additional Resources, No Artist Style should be the first one if you're using Pony Diffusion. At the bottom where it says Abstract Painting, it's a DROP DOWN, I had assumed it was specifically for abstract painting, but you can click on it and select Smooth 2 from there.

Try ai3dgen, it gives you a free use every day, no account, and looks like it comes colored. I didn't download from them because they messed up the model, but it's worth a try.

Yup, that was the issue on CivitAI.  I did see the dropdown earlier, but didn't realize I could scroll down further.  Found Smooth 2 nice and easy, afterwards.  I'll give ai3dgen a shot tomorrow.  Thanks again!

If you're ever curious about the Silverpine's dev NPC creation process, it basically involves using Pony to generate an image of the character with 'anime' semi realistic settings, then TrypoSG to create a 3D model of the character with texture (There is a github for it online that teaches you how to set it up, you'd need to install a few things using CMD if you're on windows, notably Python libraries and such, takes some fiddling especially since you need specific versioning for it to work proper, possibly also setting up a virtual machine for it) once that's done, they took front, back, and side views of the character, and reduced their resolution to a rather low number I can't quite recall.

(1 edit)

You go to the editor, click on "Create Custom NPC" and enter the name of the NPC you want to edit. Font will turn green when it finds a match.

It's not obvious, but if you hover your mouse over the name field it tells you this.

Hopping in the same thread, I'll second the request as to what art to put where and how. Also, this is fantastic! Thank you ever so much for the hard work! On to questions, haha!

1) Is it defined off of a custom Player Character with the same name perhaps?

1A) If so, is it possible to edit or add to a current NPC's art? And again, how would we do this? For example, Rosalyn.

2) Regarding editing an NPC's information mode: is there any way we could load up the bio or info on a cannon integral information character loaded for reference? Easier to work with stuff that is presented rather than going in blind, though the custom NPC seems useful.

3) I recall reading there was a hard limit on extra town NPC's, or it would require replacing others. Is that no longer the case? How many is too many?

4) Regarding Faction: Does this define if a character shows up and is permanent within the village proper or not? Do they just visit or do they get a proper place to live? Or if you set one as 'important' to a current NPC, do they live there instead? Essentially, what defines where they exist, if it all?

4a) Can the character be married or join the players household, Mirel style?

(1 edit)

I don't have all the answer, but I have some, so I'll give you what I know, and be corrected later if wrong.

1. Yes, create a custom player character and in the custom player character field enter that character's name. It basically uses the images from that custom character you make as the NPC's.

1A. Directly editing or adding Original NPC's? At the moment, no, but that might change later, since there are things in the works for customizing NPCs. For now, you can asset rip the game assets, find base game NPC art and use that to create your "custom" character. I did this with Oriana and basically have a player character version of her I can use. (New Idea! Run around as a tame and love-able Acacia.)

2. Again, at the moment no, but it could be later. I happen to know all the NPC's descriptions, personalities, and their relationships with other NPCs. I keep it all on a notepad on my computer for referencing.

3. I also have this question. Does this remove current NPCs? If so which ones?  Or does it just add more and how many is the limit? I'm sure we'll get an answer eventually.

4. I suspect Capital, might be like Mirel and Other, like Orson. Both come and go on a routine. Probably to visit, so tavern rooms. But if not, then I have no idea and have the same question where new NPC's will live. I suspect once the Get Position tool is working we'll get a map of Silverpine and can set where they spawn and which plot of turf they own if any.

4a. You can probably try making that a thing between two NPCs or you and an NPC right now. I don't see why it won't work, but don't expect some grand ceremony.

Hm. Well, for 4, Mirel basically starts living at the players flat, so I was curious if this is one way to make a footprint or resident.

A thought... if we make a custom NPC, but give them the same name for the "player", do we get to inherit all their lore and links with others characters?

I was toying with the idea as you are a certain green thumbed fox's daughter that has returned home a somewhat accomplished adventurer, perhaps even making the bread Fennec a cousin or sibling for extra sillyness. But as current NPC's can't have their relations tweaked I'm not sure how much traction this would have besides doing it the usual way of brute forcing the narrative.

By the by, what is your tool of choice for ripping art references? I've been drawing my own stuff, but being able to emulate the original would be a lot smoother with the art around, for sure.

Giving the player character the same name as an NPC bugged that NPC when I talked to them, they literally soft locked the game, but that was way back in 1.2 release. And I was also literally playing as that NPC to see how the game would handle it. I imagine naming a custom NPC the player character's name would cause similar problems, but would probably link relevant lore.

Your best bet is to make a new NPC and adjust their relationship to the original NPC, instead of changing an original NPC's relationship with another original NPC.

Asset Ripper GUI. It can easily be found on GitHub if you search for it. If you are just using it for reference material while drawling, you're best bet to save time on finding the files is to export everything and look for the 2D Textures folder. Keep that and delete everything else. You should be able to easily scroll and find all the NPC art.

I was trying to use workflows on ComfyUI a few months back, to see if there was a way to emulate the style, but I needed to pay money to upload LoRas, and my gpu is too old to run their software locally, so I can't do anything for character creation anymore. I envy your talent for drawling.

I never said it was *good* art. But also, darned if I can figure out how to use this. Unfortunate!

Running the .exe should open a tab in your browser, from there you can load the game folder data, either then export everything to look through it in your directories, or click View Loaded Files and then Sprite Data Storage. Ctrl+f, "sprite_npc_(npcname)_big"; all lowercase, to find specific NPCs files, which will have an image tab with the NPC's dialog image.

Developer

It's a bit difficult to explain what the faction value actually does because it influences a lot of little things internally, and should simply be "Silverpine" if the NPC lives in Silverpine, "Capital" if the NPC is an offscreen visitor from the capital like Mirel, and "Other" if they live in the wilderness. It has no influence on anything that is clearly visible to the player.

The custom NPC's daily routine in dynamic mode is solely influenced by the private character description, knowledge, and possible routines you have set up. The AI will try to infer a daily routine from those things.  For example, if you have a custom NPC that has just two possible routines, "visit_tavern_in_silverpine" and "stay_in_capital", and a knowledge entry that says "%NAME% visits Silverpine every Tuesday.", the AI will most likely set up a daily routine that results in the NPC visiting the tavern every Tuesday.

Custom NPCs being able to move in with the player like Mirel will come in a minor update. You can currently have 8 custom NPCs enabled at the same time.

Neat! Eight whopping characters! Much wow!

Three follow up questions (and thanks for the explanation and reply!): What determines the art used? Is it a custom character set up just like a PC like we've been thinking?

Leaning on the example you gave, what would be the name of Gareth's shack/the PC's home for directions for visiting? Let's say the custom NPC is a blacksmith and already holds a "lease" to use the grounds to work, so they visit a certain set of hours regardless if the player owns it or not. Would that work? If so, how?

How powerful is appending information to established cannon NPCs? Can this be used to adjust behavior or establish lore that is shared through the entire village? Or even how a character presents themselves? For example, turning Hayden into a plucky tomboy, or making the guard start up a side business of knitting? Silly stuff like that.

it won't let me make a custom ai character it just keeps saying I need to put a name, sex and species in to public description witch I have done, dose any one know how to fix this?

Did you put a name, sex, and species, or specifically %NAME%, %SEX%, and %SPECIES% like you're supposed to?

i tried it that way but it still didn't work, could there be any other resons for it not working?

(1 edit)

Just do what it says when it gives you a reason why it can't. What specifically does the game tell you when it doesn't work?

If you don't have %NAME%, %SEX%, or %SPECIES% in public or private description fields, makes sure it has it there. Literally those exact words with the % around them, all capitalized. Placed them where you would have your NPC's name, sex, and species normally in their description, they are basically a string variable. If you need them in the private field as well, just copy & past the public one into the private field, then add the private descriptions afterward.

enjoying fiddling with the new editor, appreciate the work done on it.

Would love a page somewhere that gives more details on how it works, even at a high level, plus maybe some other premades for the other PC characters. I am playing a game with the catgirl and being able to bring in 1-2 of the other PC options as other characters would be fun.

Thanks again for all of your hard work.

how did you get it to make the custom characters?

image.png

Oh this is going to be FUN.

Oh! Haven't seen him mad like that before.  I bet he's even more adorable when he's got an attitude. Good luck taming his grumpy heart.

(1 edit)

Hey, thanks! These are useful. I'm using some of these to set a location for WIP NPC, the baron's daughter(an anthro dragon) from the capital who is also the current mayor and visits weekly to "perform her noble duties" also known as checking the ledger and collecting taxes. So, the positions in front of the store counter or vendor is perfect.  Although I noticed Hayden's bakery and Aldric's store are the same coordinates. I think Hayden's is wrong.

Now is the honesty box the coin box? Cause that's exactly where I want to plant her.

(1 edit)

Yes the honesty box is the coin box. Sorry about the bakery thing I updated, not sure how that slipped

So I found the sprite thing, but what do you use for the profile picks? Like what specific website or engine?

CivitAI, but you'll have to make an account, and you have tokens(buzz) that limit how much you can generate everyday. Use Pony Diffusion V6 XL and add the No Artist Style LoRa, specifically Smooth 2. It will get you close to the original art work.

Alternatively, use whatever you want if you don't care about the style difference. You can use Perchance's furry generator, then find some website that will let you upscale it and remove the background for free. Probably, everyone's best option at the moment.

I actually was going to use Perchance. But thanks for the advice. Much appreciated.

Edit: I tried making the small pixelated sprites but it doesn't work for me for some reason? I used TripoSG, uploading the image in question, but it did not work. Am I missing something?

(3 edits)

When you say it didn’t work did it just not give you any output at all or was it just bad output? TripoSG is probably the ‘safe’ option just because it let’s you gen more sprites but https://www.tripo3d.ai/’s model is a little stronger for quality and inference

Also make sure you’ve removed the background as best as possible before upload. I just paint.net and the magic wand tool skipping the online removers, it takes ten seconds and you can adjust as you’d like

It gave me an error saying it couldn't generate a mesh.

Background and image are clean from what you can tell? Mind dropping it really quick?

So this is fun. It’s getting flagged as sensitive content on a couple different sites which is weird, probably the skull having a hissy fit. Give me just a sec.

Take your time. And if you'd be so kind as to give me the site that wound up working that would be wonderful and you will have my gratitude.

Yeah not sure what’s going on if it’s the mask or just needs more coverage. MeshyAI worked on their prime model but requires payment to download. Their free model just up and refused to gen at all. It’s going to be very very crunchy anyway, I’d save the current one for dialogue portraits but copy and create a new image with a bit more shirt and try again on TripoSG

At least that’s as far as I can figure. It can’t be the Mal0 skull can it?

Anyway it’s 3:30 AM so I’m heading to bed. Good luck with it!

Ok, g'night.

So I tried it with a different char on TripoSG. Apparently I kept getting a Runtime Error/ Zero GPU Worker Error.

Is it possible to create Custom Buildings for Custom NPCs to live in?

(1 edit)

If you mean edit/modifying Silverpine's layout to add in a building, so your custom NPC has a place to stay, then at the moment, no.

If you mean, using your player character to construct a building on some NPC's plot of land for your custom NPC, then yes. But you'll need to have that NPC's key to build on their land, and a whole bunch of gold, materials, and time to build and furnish it all.

Interesting. How do we tell/force the engine that the custom NPC is staying at the other NPC's location? Is it as simple as making them 'important' or another specification entirely?

That's a great question!
I bet you would have to do a mix of adding in set knowledge that they're living with an NPC, Set a Routine where they sleep in that NPC's house; on the floor until you can add a bed, and possibly Set Relationship to that NPC to at least friends if not Important, though I have no idea if that matters, it would make sense as a long term living situation if they were friends at the least.

On a similar beat, what is the location/name or code for Gareth's shack?

Working on a new scenario that was a fun concept before of the player being a much needed smith, but of course this would require another character to rely on as a partner to work up the engine and "build" in text. So I figure another character pining to get their smith on at the shack may do the trick. ...Or I'd have to add the behavior after it's been opened, unsure.

Regardless, since this could potentially let us set up an NPCs behavior pattern, I could get a reliable 'worker' in there rather than brute forcing NPC's or Mirel. At least I think/hope so.

I think it's "Abandoned Shed", but I don't know if buying it changes the name to something like "Shed", or "%PLAYER_NAME%'s Shed" since it's no longer abandoned once bought.

I think you can build a new floor, unconnected to the shed, on your land, and you should get a system pop up to name the new building, and it should have the name of the area/shed as default. Otherwise, I don't know.

If I write something in the personal traits of a default NPC, does it completely rewrite the traits or add to the existing one?

(1 edit)

From my own experience going full on, it rewrites the traits. You can in fact if you want make a bizzarro town where Celandine is a advocate for celibacy, Hayden bakes razors into bread and Mirel drinks only fizzy water. Or more seriously you can add trauma and drama to their backstories or related to the PC

However I haven’t tried going piecemeal yet with just a quick one line.

You'd likely need to know the existing personality tags of the specific NPC if you want to add on to their personalities.

If you tell me which NPC I can give you their personality tags.

If you wouldn't mind, it would be useful to know all the characters' personality tags just in case.

And out of curiosity, how exactly do you know of their tags etc?

Deleted 107 days ago

Thanks a ton, very informative!

Always nice to have people work together to figure out how to best customize one's experience!

Hrm. If we are attempting to replicate a npc and only adjust a few things, then by this logic we'll need all their bells and whistles for information, yes? But the NPC at the very least keeps their home, general pathing and whatnot?

For example, if we tweak the vendors, do they still retain their stock and sales?

Semi related, could this be used so you don't get eaten in the wild by a certain NPC, or has that been fixed?

I haven't tried altering any NPCs yet, but I presume if you leave the physical and private description fields blank for the original NPCs, then they will default to the original description for that NPC.

Of course this is all new stuff, so I could be wrong, but that is the impression I am given if NPC descriptions are to be kept hidden.

Changed Darian into a anthro bat who was a bitter former priest and he seemed to follow the same schedule

Developer

Modifying default NPCs doesn't change their schedules. Dynamic mode is only available for fully custom NPCs.

(1 edit)

Did you change the art for the former guard? I assume the answer is 'nope' (currently not possible?), but if so, how did you do this?

I am still trying to figure out the nuance of the system, and I'd love to tweak some existing art with alternate outfits as the story twists and turns. Thanks!

Yes. Set the name to the NPC you want to change, and then Custom Player Character Definition under it to change the sprite to that defined in the custom character

Oh, wow. I gotta try this out now.

Semi related, is it possible to swap a gender via this setup, or is that more of a brute force scenario ingame?

May I ask what Darian's "hidden" personality trait is? I tried doing it exactly the way you showed, but unfortunately, nothing shows up for me just some weird stuff. And I’d rather not start experimenting around. That never ends well for me.

(1 edit)

Hang on let me check if the information is still floating around in the 1.7.0 level0 file. I technically revealed this before, but I didn't know it was for Darian at the time. If it's been hidden since, I'm not going to reveal it, otherwise, might as well.

Also, you can find this out if you spend any significant length of time with him. I even saw signs of it before I put the two things together.

Right, so that information isn't uncompressed anymore, so you won't see it in the files, which means I probably shouldn't share it, since it's not publicly available knowledge. I suspect it's set knowledge, so if you mod Darian it will still be a hidden part of his personality because anything new is appended to the existing knowledge pool.

(1 edit)

With the addition of the custom npc creation or editing, perhaps some form of documentation would be useful, like a wiki or something. Alot of information is strewn through comments on itch.io and difficult to find and im sure the developer is getting tired of answering the same questions every other update. I've never made a wiki myself but its the sort of thing I'd happily contribute to.

A custom character repository would be a cool thing for people to share their characters too!

A place to share custom characters would be great.

Dunno. The headline above asks 'Please do not share images of modded content.' Not sure if that applies to us here or not. Great idea, though.

(1 edit)

I mean I feel like the 'don't share images of modded content' is likely just for this itch forum, not any possible fan wikis.

We have an unofficial Discord where we have been collecting information.
https://discord.gg/RJeV2qu28J

Thank you for sharing!

(1 edit)

Awesome update,  excited to play around with this one. The AI seems to be in a really good state with all the recent updates. Curious to see, what people create with their custom NPCs.

Is there documentation on how to fully make a custom NPC available somewhere? I think that would be helpful.

(1 edit)

So, I'm making a Silverpine Coordinates Map since I figured this might be useful if you want to make NPCs that live or travel outside of Silverpine for whatever reason.

I was just wondering if anyone better than me at math could double check that I'm thinking correctly when it comes to all possible coordinates within each square? Just so that I'm not making a mistake with the coordinates before I continue adding the rest of the coordinates to the image.

So like in the Silverpine square, the Player Character starts at coordinate 40,-1, the very bottom left corner has the coordinates -49,-49, and the very top right corner has the coordinates 48,48. This makes each square 98x98 tiles big, at least from what I've gathered.

(1 edit)

Wow, great stuff here. Thanks for your contribution.

Does the Get Position tool show you the coordinates while playing? I haven't used it in a session yet, so I'm under the impression it doesn't work, but maybe I'm just misusing it.

Also, would the black border squares for transitioning from one tile to another count? It'd make each tile 100x100.

It adds an action to your action menu and will then give you the coordinates as long as it’s enabled for that session. I normally chose one of the default characters, turn survival mode off and then go around logging the numbers I need, then start a new game and set the coordinates I got from that run

Oh, I didn't realize that's how that worked. I will double check the coordinates in game once more and then I'll update the map!

Thanks to Crayshen 's comment I went in to double check. Yes, the border counts.

So if I am in the Bottom Right of Silverpine, my position is [48,-49], and when I pass through the border 1 step to the right, being at the very bottom left of the map section to the right of Silverpine, my position is now [51,-49].

I will now go to the second area right of Silverpine to see if my position will end up being [101,-49] or something else.

whats the physical description of the npcs and premade presets

Deleted 107 days ago

thank for the help i manage to find and Decrypted the npcs using grok thanks to you :)

Your welcome? All I did was point out where the encrypted strings could be found, which anyone could do if they looked. Sounds like you and Grok did the real work.

I am curious what Acacia's says, since it seems longer than the rest. Probably filled with lore about her being a wendigo and forest spirit, which I gathered are her species and occupation.

Deleted 107 days ago

Very interesting. Dev really cooked with her lore.

I feel kind of inspired to make an NPC (a panther probably) who's a priest/druid of the forest, and build a shrine/temple in town to "ward-off" the wendigo in Silverpine. Maybe build one for Orson as well.

Here's the Updated Silverpine Overworld Map with Coordinates!

And a version without the coordinates cluttering everything up, just in case.

Very nice work!

If you're still interested in looking for and filling out a few niche areas, the game files suggest Acacia has a Den in the deep forest somewhere.(good luck with that one)

Similarly, Oriana has a meditation spot up in the mountains somewhere, apparently by a pond.

There is a raptor kingdom to the south, Varxis, I believe. I always wondered if there were any signs of civilization down there like a path. If so, probably worth marking down.

If I ever were to try and find Acacia's Den's Coordinates, then I'd preferrably know her sleeping habits beforehand!

If memory serves me right, there is nothing at all on the map that indicates that there's any kind of civilization down to the south. Although it's been quite some time since I last willingly went down there to explore, so who knows. I think it's just in-universe lore as for now, just like with Thalassar at the end of the road to the right of Silverpine.

Well, I can say one thing for certain; If Acacia has a Den, then none of the Deep Forest tiles mention anything about it.

I've been trying to get around for a while now with no luck, Acacia Always finds you.

I've heard that she supposedly sleeps, yet I've not been able to find an hour where this is the case. She's awake in the middle of the day, and awake in the middle of the night. And, of course, the NPC Editor does not allow you to edit her in any way.

Deleted 107 days ago

So, I can't say for certain, but I am going to make an educated guess.

If I remember correctly, the devs have previously mentioned that Acacia is so dangerous to justify the amazing loot you can find in the Deep Forest. And let me tell you, there is no loot whatsoever to speak of in the forest itself, which makes me think that her den might be a mini dungeon that you can enter, like the entrance to The Sunken Caverns. If that is the case, then then entrance should be in the exact middle of one of the Deep Forest tiles; aka [-200,400], [-100,400], [0,400], [100,400] for the 4 top areas, or [-200,300], [-100,300], [0,300] for the 3 lower areas.

However, if I'm just completely wrong, and the Den is not actually a cave entrance or some such, then I have found at least one instance of ruins in the Deep Forest that has the inside area of 8x8 tiles, possibly matching the "8 meters deep" part of the description.

That's where I'll leave my investigation for now.

Acacia's den is in that one deep forest tile on the east side, at least that's where I found it at a few updates ago. It's just a small cave with a campfire for light and a pile of leaves for Acacia to sleep on. It's not even a separate interior you have to load into like the dungeons. She'll sleep there all day then start roaming the deep forest tiles at night.

Oh? Interesting. I was sure that the devs would have hid it in one of the two backmost Deep Forest areas to make it as difficult as possible to reach. Although perhaps they are aware of just how frustratingly tedious the area is to traverse so they decided to throw at least a little bit of a bone our way. I will go there to explore myself for sure, thanks!

For the sake of the devs, as to not draw too much attention to it, I won't post a picture or coordinates of it.

But yes, I can confirm that there is a Den in the upper right Deep Forest tile.

The pond in question is the Southern Dungeon. I've seen her there a few times.

Pfft, of course she'd meditate outside a dungeon in the mountains alone. Weird snake, but my favorite weird snake.

With this system, either with new NPC or legacy, if possible, how would be the best way to establish 'ties' with the player or protagonist from the get go? Adding some delicious lore nuggets or even establishing they have been a resident for a while could be fun.

For example, let's say they are a new guard to bolster the ranks with Darian. Would writing something like 'playername is a recent hire in Silverpine to guard the town borders' do the trick?  ...Though I imagine this would have to be done with nearly every Silverpine resident to make sense.

Or if establishing familial bonds, player is a cousin of x?

Before the no modded images rule, this is EXACTLY what I was doing. I’ve added a apprentice guard for Darian and made a very very janky patrol routine to cover the day shift which I’m still refining. It’s put in the character description he’s still new, clumsy and slightly insane and everyone just accepted it very easily. Hayden now lives in constant nervous wreck mode as the apprentice has declared him his new ‘best friend’. It’s great.

In Set Knowledge, you can enable if the knowledge you created is Public. If you leave the box unchecked, then I assume it's Private and only that NPC will know the knowledge. Public, I assume means every NPC will have access to knowing it. So you DON'T have to mod every NPC.

So, if I had to guess, and using your example as a means to explain it:

Your player character can be a new hire by slightly modding Darian by adding, "%NAME% recently hired someone new to help him guard Silverpine", to his Knowledge set. If you want your player to be related to Darian as a cousin, add, "%PLAYER_NAME% is a (optional: close or favorite) cousin to Darian." as another Knowledge set. Let the LLM put two and two together naturally and dynamically decide if he hired his cousin either as a coincidence or intentionally. Edit the knowledge if you want one or the other. Just make sure any lore about your player character's relationship with an NPC is NOT PUBLIC and increase relationship with them to whichever one gives you the key to their house so you can enter anytime and place a bed down to sleep. Probably Important, but if you're cousins.

Good suggestions, I'll see what madness I can conjure up for the good of the land.

Remember that public knowledge is only knowledge known to NPCs who personally are acquainted with that NPC, so usually you want a  NPC everybody knows (that would be Gareth) to be the holder of the information, or to make your own NPC who somehow is acquainted to everybody, they don't even have to be in Silverpine either, just to 'exist' within the world of the game, so you can make it up and give it coordinates that are out of bound or something.

I hadn't considered relationship levels would matter here. If public NPC knowledge is shared organically, then that would necessitate some level of relationship with that NPC to gain access to their knowledge. Though I don't "remember" where that was mentioned.

Is this mentioned somewhere in game?

It's mentioned as a tooltip of the public knowledge toggle when you hover on it.

It's made to be logical; if the NPC hasn't even met the NPC 'holding' the knowledge, how would they know about it?

So basically the other NPCs need to be at least acquainted with that NPC to be aware of the information they hold.

It's quite easy to test and verify as well, try speaking to Mirel about Orson or a hunter in the woods, and she won't have the single-est clue about whoever you're talking about; Gareth knowledge of Orson is private, he just knows Orson personally and Orson delivers him meat every Tuesday, and they're aware of eachother, but neither Celandine nor Gareth hold any public knowledge of Orson, so when you mention Orson to Mirel she just goes 'Ors- who?'.

That is of course if Mirel hasn't met Orson directly due to somehow having both of them in a conversation because she lives with you or something, because otherwise their schedule makes it normally impossible (as far as I'm aware) for both of them to be in Gareth's tavern simultaneously.

If you talk about Isolde to Gareth however, (a personal herbalist friend of Rosalyn, that lives off-screen in the capital and is the person she visits every time she goes out of town) because that is public knowledge of Rosalyn and anyone that knows her, he'll immediately understand what you're mentioning.

To sum it up, yes, it is quite organic and elaborate, and you need to keep track of these interactions as well.

Huh, That's really cool then. I overlooked that little detail. Thanks for filling me in on it.

If I wanted to set a routine for a Silverpine NPC to visit the capital, would I set the target position at [449, 0]? Similarly, if I wanted a Capital NPC who is visiting Silverpine to return to the capital would I use the same coordinates?
