Very well made puzzle game. One of the issues that I see in a lot of game jams are developers who make their game too difficult. This is perfectly balanced between challenging enough to use you game, and easy enough to not be stressful. Amazing job creating a unique and balanced puzzle game. If you do plan to release a commercial game for this, I recommend having the story be described with images rather than words (essentially, keep it as it is).

Developer

Thanks for the kind words! I'm glad you found the difficulty well-calibrated! And completely agree with you on sticking to telling the story wordlessly - if we do take the game further, that's definitely the route we'd want to go down.

Thanks for playing! 😊

Interesting puzzle mechanic! Though I found most of the puzzles could be completed without the use of most of the pieces, hahaha. I loved the music, and I liked that it told a little story. If you decide to extend the game further after the jam, I think it would be cool to treat the end of this version kinda like getting the portal gun in portal, where doing that little sequence unlocks another mechanic that most of the rest of the game revolves around.

Thank you! I think in future I’d remove the “Red Herring” puzzle-elements – not because I want to remove possible alternative solutions (those are awesome!), but people definitely got hung up on some of the non-necessary bits. As a result, a couple of the puzzles were harder than they needed to be and, in my view, less fair to the player. But hey, live and learn.

Appreciate the suggestion for extending the game! We’ve not agreed to take it further yet, but it’s definitely a possibility…

This was a really clevely made puzzle game! I liked how you managed to do a lot with a very simple idea and create interesting challenges. also was very intuitive, nice job!

Developer

Thank you very much! Glad you enjoyed! 😊

What an amazing little game! So simple yet so complex! I really like how fluid the visuals are. For me it clicked once i saw that there were black orbs and white orbs. The second to last puzzle was very hard but also satisfying to solve! The music was well picked!

Developer

Hey, thanks! I’m really glad you enjoyed! The difficulty on that 2nd-last puzzle was maybe too much for a game-jam game, but I’m glad you got that satisfaction from solving it!

Strong puzzle design, nice thematic tie-in at the end. Some of the puzzles and elements felt a little too loose - where things could chase and you could reposition them, and occasionally partially obscured bridges allowed me to cross. At times I wasn't sure if I was cheating or solving the puzzle the intended way. Overall - excellent puzzle design, clear narrative, and easy to understand

Here's a playest, with chapter markers to jump to your game

FYI: Youtube flagged the music you used for copyright strikes - something you may want to consider addressing if you'd like people to stream the game in the future! "Mystery's Embrace - UNIVERSFIELD" and "Sleepy Ghost - Leland Hawk"

Really, really appreciate the playtest! While we did do playtests during the jam (which led to some very necessary improvements), we really wish we'd playtested more. So your video’s been incredibly useful, and already added a couple of things to our “to-do list if we continue to work on the game”.

And sorry you got hit by the music thing. The licences for the two songs do allow us to use them (both commercially and non-commercially), but we didn’t realise they’d get picked up that way by YouTube. In future, we’ll make sure the music is “YouTube-safe”.

As a “thank you” for your video, I’d happily playtest your next game! It might be a bit dependent on my availability, but given how useful it’s been for us, I’m more than happy to reciprocate!

Really cool entry, it was incredibly intuitive to pick up, to the point that I didn't even look at the controls properly by the time I'd started picking up and interacting with objects. It just meets expectations of how things should work precisely.

The puzzles feel engaging and satisfying to complete, and I enjoyed the variety for quite a few levels. I think this would make a lovely bigger puzzle game! The sound design and responsiveness generally also feel quite good already. I think the art and visuals are a great start. I think to me the pixel art is not quite polished and refined enough to really draw me in yet as a selling point, and if they were refined to jump out at me more, I would have happily checked this out on steam as a commercial game.

Developer

Wow, thanks! Really glad you enjoyed it! We’d have to discuss amongst ourselves about expanding the game into a fuller / commercial version, but it’s definitely a possibility!

Neat idea and easy to understand at a glance, but the inclusion of a restart button would have made it smoother to try different approaches, and at one point I got stuck/noclipped into an inaccessible area.

Developer

Thanks! Completely agree re. the restart button (it was on our to-do list, but never reached top-priority – a mistake on our part). And sorry you got stuck due to dodgy physics – if we work on the game further, I’ll look into how we can minimise the chance of that sort of thing happening.

Very well done! I really enjoyed the art style and the puzzles. The music is relaxing, but it keeps you focused and driven. Overall, just a really great execution on a concept. I would like to see a fully developed game with this concept :-)

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much! This is really motivating to hear! 😊 We’ll have to discuss amongst ourselves before deciding to push towards a full version of the game, but nothing’s off the table...

Creative puzzle mechanic and nice level design! You managed to introduce a fairly detailed puzzler mechanism without alphanumeric characters, well done. The pixel art was polished and cute.

I certainly felt the difficulty at points, where the clunky monster radius + follow behavior while carrying an orb felt a bit smothering  with little opportunity for counterplay without restarting the level.

There were a few points where the light <-> dark switchover with the orbs gets you clipped/stuck in the level and you have to restart.

Developer

Thanks! I think this may be a lesson-learned for me: Don’t make puzzles (especially in games of this length) too difficult. Quite a few players are getting stuck on one of the final levels, and missing some moments we’re particularly fond of in the final level.

Absolutely take your point on the enemy follow-behaviour. And sorry you got stuck in some places – as other players have mentioned, we should have added a restart button (this was on our to-do list, but never reached top priority). Beyond that, if we spend more time on the game, I’ll see what I can do to minimise the chances of getting clipped into a “wrong” position.

Thanks for playing!

Really nice puzzle game! The first time the monster chased me, it scared the shit out of me haha.

Developer

Hey, thanks for the positive feedback! Hah – we hadn’t intended it as a jumpscare, but maybe we should be pushing for more moments of “visceral reactions” from the players. Not necessarily all jumpscares, though… 😊

Glad you enjoyed!
