I wasn't expecting a metroidvania, or at least something that feels like one! I was constantly surprised by each new ability you were able to add in such a short time. The level design was well thought out and clever how you added shortcuts on the way back. The only criticism I have is that it's very hard to see enemies and projectiles in full-screen, they become very tiny and hard to track with how fast the action is. Since the title screen also has a grey border to the right/bottom in full-screen I'm assuming that maybe your window scale mode is just set incorrectly and that you intended for the whole game to scale in full-screen rather than expand. If that's the case, switching the mode would probably address both issues. Still, incredible work!
The title screen art was amazing! I really like how the enemies wait to spawn till you get to a certain point in the tutorial. Great work!
Yaaaaay that was my art!! :)))
Nice game, I think the game should have been a bit more zoomed in.
I tried several times to get the diamond on the right — I was really close — but once I realized it was just a diamond, I completely gave up 😄
I agree! By the time we’d finished the gameplay, though, we felt like zooming in would make it really hard to get through certain parts of the later levels (i.e. level 3 using the grappling hook).
That diamond on the right in the first level is possible, but it’s way easier if you come back for it with the grappling hook instead. :)
Really amazing game, art was awesome, music was awesome, mechanics were awesome! I especially liked the grappling hook, reminded me a lot of DDrace Network. Also that fact that more powerful enemies spawn as the bounty increases was a great idea
Thank you!! We had a lot of ideas for how we would incorporate the theme, and that was the one we landed on. Others included your bounty being your ‘score’ for the level and the goal being to get it as high as possible, but we felt that would be a little too straightforward…
I'm glad you landed on it too b/c I think it works well. It's also nice that enemies aren't just cannon fodder, they dodge and move which actually makes them fun to fight (even as the bounty increases)
I enjoyed the music and the dash mechanic. Felt a bit frustrated by the enemies aim, plus i felt like i was being pushed around a lot, perhaps by firing the gun or from being hit by a projectile? Made it a bit frustrating to move around the level.
Nice work all.
Shotgun has kickback — once you know it’s there, you can use it to move around faster! Also, yeah, the enemies are pretty tough. Thank you for playing anyway!
Very nice miniature metroidvania! Finished it and loved it. Although I hated that weapon ahah. But everything else was nice. Killer soundtrack, cute art, lovely ideas. Congratz!
The shotgun definitely requires some getting used to… But thank you for playing!
(The compliments on the soundtrack just keep piling up. Should we put it on Spotify or something…?)
Amazing game, my pinky hurts from dashing so much, haha.
(I wish we’d found a better button for the dash key…)
Killer soundtrack! That combined with the title image really set the tone for a radical space romp!
Some of the platforming did test my gamer cred (or outright broke me *ahem* level 1 block jumping section), but I did make it through to the end and felt satisfied by the duration :)
Congrats to the team for putting this together!
All the comments on the soundtrack mean a lot to me and Cal :) Thank you for playing!
(Level 1 block jumping section is definitely on the harder side. Maybe come back to it with the grappling hook after you’ve finished the game and unlocked all your abilities?)
So you guys just made a whole ass metroidvania huh? Lol the amount of content you got into this is super impressive. I really had a lot of fun with this. I ended up stopping because I’m pretty sure I got myself soft locked here. I think I was missing an ability. I was able to jump to the first ledge by shooting downward to boost myself a bit (cool feature) but that wasn’t enough to get me out. I also am pretty sure I knew what I had to do to get the secret room in the first stage, but I didn’t have the strength to do it. This was great, might come back to play this some more after the rating period!
Thank you for playing! We had a lot of fun creating it. Also, all of levels 1 and 2 are possible with just the dash and shotgun, because of the aforementioned kickback quirk — shoot really early in your jump and you’ll go flying! The secret rooms are unlockable if you complete the game and go back to the beginning, where you’ll now have all your abilities unlocked from the start! (And a secret extra one…)
(As for the softlock, that’s right around where you unlock the grappling hook, I believe. Keep falling through the semisolid platforms to grab the treasure, then a new path will open up for you!)
Enjoyed playing this. A lot of really cool features. Well thought out.
I’m glad you enjoyed!
The progression in this game is really cool. I spent so long at the start trying to get across those floating platforms using only jump and dash. The grapple came in and saved the day. Nice game guys will come back to this one in the future to explore more of the levels!
Those platforms are ridiculously hard without the grappling hook, lol. Thank you for playing!
Well that elevated quickly! Suddenly I had shotgun and tons of enemies were trying to shoot me!
This was a cool little game, though I did struggle with the controls once the mouse aiming was introduced. This is one I will come back to and try to get further in since it seem there was a few extra places to explore.
I really liked the when the music kicked in and the gameplay pumped up!
Any 2D platformer with mouse controls is bound to be a little difficult to handle. We tried to minimize it, but with more time, we probably could have made it more manageable. Thank you for the feedback!
(Thank you for your compliments on the music!!)
This game was very cool, at first I thought, oh, this art isnt very good and the player cant turn, but once I unlocked shooting the gun, everything felt great. Good job guys!
“The art isn’t very good” *arrow through the chest* My bad… I’ll lock in harder next time…
Thank you for playing!
Wow, really fun game :) I was having some difficulties with dash being shift, but that could just be my stupid hands. Still, very playable and a great experience. Nice job!
You’re not alone! We just couldn’t figure out a better key for it…
Dangg what an insane amount of talent put into this game! Didn't realize it would have so much content but I'm glad that it does; it's really fun :) Love the music throughout the game as well!
Thank you thank you thank you!!
Loved the music in this game! awesome art for this as well.
YAAAAAAAAY I DID THAT YAAAAAAAY
After the first 3 minutes I was like "okay an impressive amount of work went into this", and then I started discovering the different abilities and realized what I saw in the first impression was only the tip of the iceberg. It's clear that you put a lot of time in this, and it paid off! In particular, I really enjoy the game feel of everything, it all feels polished.
I’m glad you feel like it’s well-polished! I actually felt the opposite at first, but a lot of people seem to have the same sentiment, so I’m proud our work paid off!
Loved the music in this one.
Hell yeah! We worked hard on it :)
