I enjoyed it. I like these types of games. good work.

Pretty well done vampire survivors type game! I might reconsider where the health and XP bars are placed. With them being so small and really tucked away in the corners, you have to really strain and take some time to find them and process what level they're at. With Vampire Survivors, the XP is a giant bar that you can see even in your periphery if you need to, and the health being placed right below your character means you barely have to move your eyes at all to see what health you're at. I also think the player character is too tall, and it makes its difficult to predict where your own hitbox is. Usually top-down action games like this prefer to have rounder hitboxes, as it makes moving vertically and horizontally equally safe. This was fun though, I really enjoy vampire survivors games like this :)

glad you liked it, I plan on reworking it some after the Jam and will take your tips into consideration!

Well made vampire like with good music & art. Perfect scope for a jam game.

Developer

Thank you glad you liked it!!

The vampire survivor elements were pretty clear out of the gate, as were most of the traditional upgrades (health, arrow speed, etc). I got really thrown off by the arrow upgrade system, both in how it worked and how it was presented. The hitbox of the very tall player sprite threw me off as well - I kinda expected it to be something smaller/isometric at my feet. I went into a good amount of detail in the attached video around some ideas to make the arrow stuff more clear.
Here's a playtest

I really like this genre of game, I've spent a lot of time in Archero and Vampire survivors. Unfortunately it's just a little too unpolished in it's current state. The balance is off and the character is too tall. But with some polish on the game feel you've got something really promising here. It's just a shame it's quite derivative.

I'm surprised I'm getting performance issues because the game itself is quite simple visually. It also took a very long time to load which is unusual for a browser game, I thought perhaps it was broken.

Developer

I’m sorry you experienced some performance issues :( so far it’s loaded fine for me every time, I’m considering updating it after the Jam to Polish it more and add the things we didn’t get to, any specific points of polish you’d personally like to see?

Love this type of game! could have used some more enemies in the late game as it got a bit easy after a while. really nice drawings/animations

Developer

Totally agree it needs more enemies, was having a hard time with the browser build dropping to 5 fps after more than 150 enemies were spawned in so for performance reasons I capped how many could exist at a time, I’d like to spend some time solving that issue after the voting period, glad you enjoyed it otherwise!

Submitted(+2)

It definitly engaged me.  it could have been  little more original but it was fun for a whole cycle.  thee was some dread!

Developer

glad you enjoyed it! I do want to update it potentially after the voting period to get some features we missed and maybe solve some existing issues, Idk if it would get any more original, since it’s  pretty over saturated genre,  but I definitely had some features I really wanted in the finished product

Too bad the screen couldn't be adjusted to fit my screen. But anyways, nice survivors clone! the bomb is literally the bomb! it saves my attempt couple times.

Developer

yes so sorry I wasn’t entirely sure how to size it on the itch end, I have corrected the window size though

Really nice, stuff! The art in combination with the sheer number of enemies really create a nice sense of doom which seemed on theme!

Relatively intuitive, but I did find myself what to understand the current state of my build and quite a bit. It also took me a little while to understand what certain buff reset other buffs

Developer

glad you liked it! Would’ve liked to have more enemies in it late game, however it had an issue with suddenly dropping frames significantly so I had to cap it, and yeah I was personally tossed up on maybe we should have allowed all the elemental arrows to be used simultaneously or maybe just not pop up the options for the mutually exclusive ones so that players don’t accidentally reset their progress at all

Submitted(+3)

I liked this one a lot! Great artwork and sound!
I would rather use arrow keys over WASD but that's just my preference.

After a while, there were no more monsters.  Did I win?  Or was that a glitch with the spawning. 😅

Developer(+2)

thank you for the feedback! that may be a bug, but since i did the art i have no idea lol

Developer(+1)

definitely a bug I haven’t experienced, as for the arrow keys after the time was up one of my first thoughts was that on all the menus I considered all the  common keyboard inputs to make the controls simply whatever a player might think they were but I forgot to make arrow key based movement an option. Thanks for playing glad you liked it

I had fun but was really confused at first about the arrow types not stacking

Developer(+1)

thanks for playing, and the feedback!

I left a comment directly on the game’s itch.io page instead of here. Oops.

I really enjoyed this game: it has a good balance between difficulty and rewards. I also found it very easy to understand what each reward did, even before seeing its effects.

Developer(+1)

no worries, thank you for your  feedback!

Submitted(+2)

loved the art style! at first i didnt get the elemental system and reset my progress a bit but then it clicked!

Developer(+1)

thank you so much! yeah i really struggled with what to draw to convey what was needed

Overall, I played your game for well over 20 min. There's just something primally addicting about gathering XP and upgrading tools/weapons. I don't know if it was my computer, but the game movements were very very slow for me. If this is a feature of the game itself, if you add on to this, I would love to see a player speed upgrade. Great job!

Developer(+1)

i believe there was an issue with speed due to fps issues.  thank you for your feedback!

The art's awesome, and the music's really fitting. I dig the aesthetic a lot, and I like how despite the game playing just like vampire survivors, it has a totally different visual direction. The isometric angle also helps differentiate it too.

I do like the small design trick of there only ever being two mutually exclusive powerups out of three, so you're never forced to take something you don't want to take, but I don't think I like the exclusive powerup mechanic as a whole. Once you settle on a certain type of weapon, the other types essentially transform into empty upgrade slots that you'd never pick.

Developer(+1)

thank you for the feedback! yeah sadly we had to really limit what we could add for upgrades (time *sigh)

Submitted(+2)

Good use of common design language, most of the elements of the game were intuitive but a controls hint would have been nice. Played for at least 20 minutes trying to stack my fire and lightning has high as possible.

Developer(+2)

thank you for your feedback! yeah we wanted to add control prompts but ran out of time

Developer(+2)

loved your game btw its one of my faves! <3

Had fun with you game! here are some self-explanations that weren't clear;

the full screen is larger than my computer monitor, I didn't figure out how to fitit until my third play though

i had no idea what the jelly beans were for until my second play through

i couldn't figure out the controls were WASD until after i tried both arrows and mouse

I didn't know when the magnet would run out, and i wasn't sure if anything stacked.

Developer(+2)

thank you for the feedback! :)
