The hidden hand is so awesome! I'm so glad you took it up to make a hidden goals mechanic that arguably fills that role a little better than our good corvid friends on a way :P
Your artwork is also so fantastic, and the story behind them is so fun too. I think you really did an amazing job
Really like the vibes of this faction, especially the Arrange the Future Action where you have to plan your futur turns in advance !
Discarding cards to take actions seems to be brutal, especially when you are expected to have cards left in hand to reveal to arrange the future.
The hidden hand is a great idea to have really few warriors behing able to defend all of your oracle tokens. Would an oracle token be considered defenseless when attacked if you have warriors in the hidden hand ?
Given that the caravan is a warrior, are there any mechanics preventing it from behing replaced by propaganda bureau or converted by the lizard cult ? Losing the caravan seems devastating, shutting off most of your faction, without a way to regain it.
Really curious to see where this faction will go :)
Hey! Really thankfull for your comment!
1 So the reason i choose them to discard a card when taking an action is to discourage them from taking actions that way. They should only result to use that part of the action economy when its absolutely necessary or they can really afford to. It was the best compromise i found between having an overpower or overrigid action economy. In an ideal game most of your actions should come from plans you made. (they should be a bit underpowered compared to otherfactions because they have an alternative wincondition)
2 I made it so when you defend with the hidden hand you take one hit less, to somewhat bypass the extrahit to the defendless tokens. So yes it should count as a defenseless token
3 Ohhh i really forgot about those mechanics, i will defenetly change the wording so the caravan can't be removed, thank you for the feedback.
The Bene Gesserit have arrived! I always thought they were such a unique faction in Dune, and now they're in Root! Great job :-)
Could you explain what the "Hand of Time" is? It's mentioned under the "Enact Plans" step of Birdsong, but I didn't see it on the rest of the board.
I'm also curious about the card economy for this faction. If I have 3 Oracles on the board, I will draw 2 cards at the end of Evening (1 automatically, and one for the revealed icon on the Oracles track). But when I get to the next Evening, I may have to give away 3 cards as part of Tribute (one for each Oracle, assuming none were removed)? Is that an expected outcome, or is there another way to gather more cards?
Hey, thank you for your kind comment!
The Hand of Time was originaly meant to be the name of the Turn marker but latter changed due to not being obvious, it seems like i forgot to update the text there. Sorry for that. (Gonna update it after the game jam!)
So it seems like the Tribute isn't worded correctly, you give them cards from the deck (I will reword that too, thank you) (on another note, originally had an idea of being a plus card icon for the faction ruling there, but it encouridged players fighting for it, which doesn't lined up with the concept for the faction)
Thanks for the clarifications! Giving Tribute cards from the deck makes a lot more sense. Good luck with your future improvements!
