The chemistry part is very fun, but if an electron is left unconnected and is buried inside a complex molecule i found no way of fixing up that mistake.
The theme is strong with this one!
Thanks for playing, I'm glad to hear you had fun!
I added the antimatter as a way to try and fix those issues, but maybe I needed to adjust the rarity or increase the effective area to make it easier to use.
This brought up nightmares of high school chemistry! Well done on a clever chemical twist of classic games. The first time I played I sucked, but the second time I got to level 9 with a score of 25010. Eventually I stopped getting antimatter balls (whether that's by design or just random misfortune) and that's what killed me in the end.
I think I encountered a few bugs during gameplay where sometimes atoms would fall through existing ones...it was hard to reproduce.
I'm sure it'd be impractical (or maybe impossible...I wasn't the best chemistry student) but it'd be neat if you showed me which molecules I made the most at the end of my game (and could name them!)
A solid entry into the jam!
Thanks for playing despite the nightmares! The antimatter should appear around 2% of the time, so I think you were just unlucky.
I encountered that bug during testing but thought I had solved it, there must be some edge case that I missed. Thanks for letting me know, I'll look into it!
That's a good suggestion, I like the idea of giving some extra statistics about the game other than the score! There's software for generating chemical names from structures so naming them should be possible, but I would need to do some more research before trying to implement it myself; reducing them to names would make tracking statistics on which molecules you made easier too!
I felt like I was getting the hang of it after at least two rounds of playing through it but I believe it could be better by also adding a fundamental page of explaining how atoms and molecules fundamentally work and associating the pictures with each one and explaining why some bonds get two lines, while others don't connect or why they shift from bonds.
Thanks for playing and for your feedback!
The atoms form bonds by looping over neighbours counter-clockwise starting from above, creating one bond at a time until either the new atom or all neighbours cannot accept more bonds. I was trying to avoid overwhelming the player with text at the beginning and ended up leaving this out as I could not think of a good way to phrase it and demonstrate all the possibilities, but it is an important part of the rules so I agree it should have been included. Maybe showing it through an animation would have been an option to make it clearer.
I understand what this game is trying to do, and it's a clever idea. but I can't tell what's gonna connect and what's not. maybe I should have paid more attention in chemistry class lol
Nice game, I suck at it, but i really enjoyed it.
This game has a great vibe between the art and the music. I struggled a bit though, there was a lot to read before playing and I didn't really understand how to score, between the electrons and the bonds. Maybe I need to go back to Chemistry before playing again!
Thanks for the feedback! I added the tutorial screens at the end so they were a little rushed and I agree very text heavy. What would have made the explanation of the mechanics clearer for you?
