I enjoyed it. Very calm vibe, the story was nice. Sometimes I got stuck on air - especially in the third village. But it wasn't too bad. Really cool little game.
Thank you! Glad to hear you enjoyed it! I'll have to do a run through to ensure that getting stuck issue gets sorted out, thanks again!
Well done!
I liked the story and general aesthetics. The music was fitting, but so quiet that I had to turn the volume way up to hear it. On the other hand, the sound effects, while sparse, were also good and had a normal volume which is fine except for the quiet nature of the music.
It wasn't always clear which tiles were impassable objects and which were not. At one point I confused a road with a mountain range.
I opted for playing in Balance mode, which ended up being easier than expected. I didn't find out what happens if you lose your balance, since it was simple enough to hold the appropriate direction based on the bar display.
The bandits were good as an obstacle, a bit aggravating to deal with when they spotted me which means they were doing their job well.
Thank you for the comment I really appreciate the detail you went into, and 100% agree with all your points! I have noticed other people who i showed the game to out of the jam had similar issues with the tiles not being clear (I'll blame my 1st time pixel art skills there)
To spoil the balance meter, you just take a hit of damage, nothing too exciting and not even an animation as it was a last minute feature to combat the shift being a bit bland lol, but I'll defo look at the balance's balance
Again really appreciate the comment and checking it out!
I liked the story , small but well placed. The collider is already been talked about, so i dont need to say anything :) The bridge in act 1, on top on the river i dont know if that should be, i could not cross them but didnt see any reason why not. If that should be the case, maybe some boxes or wood to block the way would make a round impression.
Well done in time
Hey thanks so much for the comment!
The bridged section to take you over the river was intended as a cliff type structure, but yeah i can see it looks very out of place in the forest looking back, do you mean i would have been better marking off the river instead of allowing the player to go into it? or just better show the safe path being the bridge? This is only my second completed project so I just want to make sure I know where I can improve in future, thanks again!
That depends on what you want the Player to experience. As example if you let the path Open and the path down, through the river, Player Like me will feel that they could be Missing Something If they don’t Go and explore both ways. That is the Natural effect on different ways you can choose and there are many Player that like it.
If you want that the Player Focus more in the narrative then the map, let your game communicate that. Use the Surroundings to tell what is Happening , Block ways, use signs, trees, for example.
For the start it was good and a playable Game is a playable Game, many don’t Finish there projects and the best way to improve is getting more Feedback and playing Game that feel complete to you and looking at it Not Like a Player more Like someone who will Made a game.
ah I see thank you very much!
appreciate the advice I’ll keep it in mind going forward!
Loved the story aspect and the interesting take on the theme. One small tip: with taller characters in a top-down view like this, I think it feels a bit more natural when the collision box is smaller so characters can visually overlap objects a little more. Great job!
thanks so much I really appreciate it! Thank you for the tip as well, I was trying to have things like the trees and buildings have realistic overlaps but just couldn’t manage to figure it out in time but I will update it with that in future!
Really liked the beginning 😄 The zoom-out and the music instantly created a vibe that reminded me of Road 96. Nice atmosphere!
thank you I’m glad it sold the vibe that was a big worry 😅
