Wow amazing little horror game! LOL I survived about a minute only.. do we get spotted if we use flashlight?

I tried not to and survived a minute, but got cornered. Perhaps there should be some kind of stuff we can pick up to kind of hid for a few seconds would make the game even more fun (as player can stay in the game longer).

My is so novice build compare to yours as it is my first game and also first game jam game.. but perhaps you can give me some feedback on how to improve mine would be awesome. Thanks!

Thanks so much, the monster AI is a bit buggy so whatever weird happens blame it on the pathfinding

Submitted(+1)

I think the tension is just right. Maybe just added a bit of extra gadgets that the player can pick up to fend against the bots would be awesome. But i had a blast trying to hide/run from the bots.

Really neat concept! but the execution still need a bit of work. I really like the idea of being pursued by a creature inside a pitch black cave, the battery recharging mechanic is really tense due to how quick it depletes. The only problem I have is that I was able to camp beside one of the recharging station, and for some reason the pursuer always seem to avoid. I just stayed there until the timer ran out, and I managed to finish the game twice just camping like this. I know it's not the intended experience, and given the chance I would definitely avoid camping like this. But I just want to give you a heads up in case it's something you can fix in a future patch, because this has a TON of great potential to make me scream and crap my pants. Great work to the team, cheers!

Developer

Thanks, yes, some charging stations are fsr avoided by the monster (don't have a clue why), but it shouldnt happen that often, so I guess you just got unlucky, I have a fix in mind that I'll work on soon

Wow, this is a great horror game. I didn't thought that someone would be able to make a horror game in this jam because of the theme, however I am pleasantly suprised. Good job, I love it ☺

Developer

Thanks! :)

Nice jumpscare. Sometimes I got stuck in some sections with no visible way out, be careful with this pitfall in level design.

Developer

Yeah, that's the usual problem with procedurally generating levels, the levels are made on the fly so every time you play you get a different experience, but thanks

Game felt creepy and oppressive which I think is what you were going for. I don't know if it was intentional but playing the web build I was getting random freezes. I could hear cpu fan spin up so wasn't sure if it was a bug or intentional. Honestly added to the creepiness that at any moment i might just freeze for a second or 2.

Developer

Not intentional, I made my own pathfinding for the game (A*), it's very badly optimized so sometimes the game just freezes. But thanks!

Submitted

Nailed the creepiness. Felt like the longest two and a half minutes trying to avoid that thing

Developer

Ha ha, thanks alot!

Really strong creepy atmosphere with great sound design and a cool flashlight survival mechanic. Once you understand it, the concept is solid and fun. A bit more tutorial/balancing would really help, but overall a great jam entry!

Developer

Yes, very good feedback, and thanks soo much!

Barotrauma meets Splunky, really cool aesthetic but needs a bit of balance work sometimes the monster got me before i did anything and also was missing a bit of an objective not sure what i was doing, but otherwise was super creepy, well done.

Developer

Thanks, you should survive 2m 30s (the countdown at the top) and shine the flashlight at the monster if he gets close, also charging the flashlight if youre out of battery is good (at the charging stations)

Submitted

Good job! Loved the flashlight mechanic. A little bit hit and miss on scaring the monster, found I wasn't sure if there has to be a certain strength for it to work. Also only figured out the double jumping. Would work on perhaps a more consistent level design with some purposeful paths to get you to the stations. But really well done folks!

Developer

The level is procedurally generated so it's kind of hard to do level design :( But thanks for the feedback and playing the game!

Submitted(+1)

Ah right, if you've not seen it already I'd look into something like Spelunky's blended method so you end up with some randomisation but core paths are always made.

Developer

Cool, I'll look into it

Submitted

The monsters were still able to kill me even though I had been shining the light on them. Like they would be engaged in the path detecting in my direction instead of away from the light. Maybe the path it found to move away from me was too close to me while the light was shining on it. There were a couple times where I would move away from a battery machine without manually disconnecting with the input, it breaks the charging, but the connection will pop back up when you get near the location where you had visually disconnected at (not affecting the gameplay, just the visual logic).

Flashlight mechanics are always fun :3   It is not clear to use your flashlight to chase away the enemy but it does become apparent (to me) as you continue playing through trial and error. If you continue working on the game, I feel it would benefit from a scenario that has you use or explain the mechanic before the monsters actually start coming for you.

My favorite thing that stood out to me is the sound design, it does a great job at invoking a feeling of dread and anxiety. I feel like the story has a lot of potential. Combining the sound design with what you present as the story emphasizes what I perceive as horror vibes.

There is a lot of neat things you can do with continuing to work on this project! Even though this would not be a game I would play, I was still entertained and determined to survive.

Developer(+1)

Thanks soo much for the feedback and praise! I am planning to maybe continue work on this game so feel free to follow to get notified when I update it, but you don't have to. Btw, I really like your game!

your welcome!!

<3 thanksss! :D

I run into weird bugs, when I got down as far as I think I could, my game was freezing for 2s and then working and again freezing for 2s. Also even if I shined the light to scare the monster it crashed into me and I lost :( Either way super cool game, I loved the sound design the most. KaioJarus you are the GOAT!

Developer

Yes he is! Thanks for playing, yes, the homebrew pathfinding is pretty slow at far distances :(, and weird, did it always crash into you or did it only sometimes happen?

Submitted

I got down 2 times, went as far left and right each time, each time there were freeze frames, the game didn't crash tho :)

Developer

I'm talking about the monster crashing into you and killing you even though you shine light at it

Submitted (1 edit)

oh sorry, not every time, more like 50%-ish. Probably quick collider disable for a few seconds will do the trick

I'v done a lot of caving, and now I am scared to go back, so, thanks, I guess :)

Love the game

Good entry! was able to cheese it by not doing anything, but I get the idea behind the game.! Cool stuff!

Developer(+1)

Yeah, thanks, the pathfinding teleports the monster if it's stuck and it probably teleported into a closed area so it got stuck when you played, I'll fix this when I continue working on this, adding a shop and mining and stuff. Thanks for streaming it btw!

Pretty cool game! I like the cave vibe and the premise is pretty simple but interesting! Though I find the game a bit too hard at times (maybe its skill issue at my part). The theme connections for this game by charging through the station is interesting though I wish there were more to it! Though there is story in the game description page, I wish there were context in the game itself to make it more fun! Overall, I enjoyed it (even though I suck at it xD), great job!

Developer

Thanks, good feedback, yes, I will continue work on this later and I hope to incorporate the theme more and make the enemies more balanced, they can get stuck to

Submitted

I was a bit lost at first and got caught so many times TAT

But I like the concept and the cave vibe!

Developer

Thanks, did you understand how to use the flashlight, or should I have included that somewhere?

Submitted

Oh, I didn’t realize the flashlight was usable at first 😭 I think adding a small tutorial or hint near the beginning would help a lot!

Developer

Oh ok, yeah, I guess I assumed everyone would read the description of the game, which is a bad assumption, but glad you figured it out!

Submitted

Jajja I liked that the tutorial is basically dying until you understand the game

Developer(+1)

Yeah, thanks, I did need to implement more of a tutorial maybe, but I guess you understand
