Awesome game! Almost every aspect is finely executed. Just add mobile controls ASAP, I'll really love to play it. Nice job!
Huge chance part of this is just a skill issue on my part but I had a really rough time getting anywhere. The game is quite punishing. The presentation is really nice and I also love the music!
Suggestions would include checkpoints (unless I'm so bad I never reached one of them haha), more health, more forgiving hitboxes (the spikes in particular feel like they can pop you from simply scraping them from the side and it feels a little bad to die that way) and some kind of way to track your height progress. The vertical resolution makes me feel like it's one of those mobile games where I want to set a cool score by seeing how high you can go :)
Overall I like this idea and with some tweaks you've got a really fun game here! Keep it up. I read you're working on a full version and I'd love to see it!
Thanks for the thoughtful feedback! We fixed the collision maps for the spikes and are now evaluating ways to balance the difficulty. Check points seem to be the most requested feature so far. In regard to a score, we intially wanted to add a height score but ran out of time. Although we are now considering a score influenced not only by height but by defeating enemies as well.
We are currently working on the game and we'll address many of this issues in the next update. Thanks again for playing our game!
Such a fun game! The visuals and sounds are great! I struggled with the 1 hit death, the challenge made it rewarding when you kill an enemy, I just found it very punishing when you die after 1 hit , but maybe i need to get better! haha.... Very polished game and would definitely play again, great job !
SSSSSSSSSSSOOOOOOOOOOOO CCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCOOOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLLLL IIIIIIIIIIII LLLLLLLOOOOOVVVVVVVVEEEEEEEEEE IIIIIITTTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nice artwork and very upbeat soundtrack to keep ya going :)
Great job! The graphics are really well done and the movements feel smooth to control.
Man, what a great game! The movement feels really smooth and satisfying, and the pixel art and sound are excellent. Really impressive. I have to admit it's a bit difficult for me, but that's probably because I'm just bad at it haha. Great work! :)
[Rant-on]I really hate when people use the tiles as collision boxes[/Rant-off]
Great entry btw! I really couldn't get past the spikes with arrows part, tried more than 10 times! But besides the rant I think the game concept is ok (who doesn't love a jetpack?) and the animations are excellent. Sound feels really appropiate and the parallax effect is nicely achieved. Is the art yours? Really liked it! Congratulations!
Thanks for the feedback! We created all the artwork and code during the 9-day period. While I'm a digital illustrator, I don't consider myself a pixel artist. At least not an experienced one. So, creating the character and all the animations was a bit daunting and took up a lot of my time budget. But making the main character look and move well was a priority for me. I wanted players to enjoy controlling him.
In regard to the tilemap collisions, was it specifically just the spikes or did you not like the use of tilemap collisions for the platforms too? You'll be happy to know that our next update fixes the spikes and they now have better and more forgiving collision boxes.
Also, that specific location where you got stuck is probably the hardest section, especially on a keyboard. We are going to redesign the level in our next release. Our goal is to make this into a full game, with several levels, guns, enemies and bosses.
Thanks again for playing our game!
The Metal Slug vibes are real and that alone is a massive compliment! The retro art style and music combine perfectly to create that classic action platformer feel, and the fact that each enemy requires a different approach keeps the gameplay constantly engaging. The jetpack mechanic is a really fun and unique twist on the vertical climbing theme. The developer's responsiveness to every comment — already fixing spike colliders, exploring checkpoints and health bars — shows real dedication and professionalism. With those updates this is easily full game material and it sounds like that's exactly where it's headed! Feel free to check out my sky platformer too 😊
Cool game! The controls remind me a bit of the Metal Slug series 👍
A few things I would change for accessibility reasons are:
Reducing the size of the player colliderA few checkpoints along the way
More than 1 health (I died sooo many times) 😓
I like how you made it so that each enemy had to be dealt with in a specific way, while also adding some platforming using obstacles.
Well Done! 👌
Just being mentioned in the same sentence as Metal Slug is a massive compliment for us! Thanks for the suggestions. We are balancing the difficulty for our next release. The major issue with the spikes was that it used a 16x16 collider which took up the entire tile. We initially used a tilemap for the spikes and used the default collision box (which cannot be edited). We fixed that and are now using a custom collision shape that aligns with the shape of the spikes and is more forgiving.
We are now exploring either the use of a health bar and/or the addition of checkpoints. I want the game to be challenging and to give the player the feeling of accomplishment when they pass a difficult area. So, we are leaning more towards adding checkpoints (it's actually the most requested feature among our players).
Thanks again for playing our game!
love the graphics, love the gameplay and love the concept! this game is really fun and challenging to play, but makes me play more and more 😮
I lost a lot... in section spikes whit the arrow at the end, I almost all the time touch that spike at the corner.
Still incredible work, feels very polished. I like the player sprites and how simple it is to start and play.
I really liked good work!!
