Fun to explore, island looks great!    The instruction screen of what to do I think is the best I have seen so far.

If I could change one thing, I agree with the other comment on getting number 2 first being confusing.

Overall great job, you got a lot done for being a solo game!

Heya! How are you doing? Nice work overall. The game already feels it has a foundation to keep working with, and I really liked the asset style.

A few small notes from my playthrough:

  • It would be nice to have a skip button/key for the controls screen after the first launch.
  • Maybe place the first memory card near the starting point instead of the “2” card, so the collection sequence is clearer.
  • I had trouble finding more cards. The map feels large and polished, but the fog is quite strong in some areas, especially near the start, under the bridge, in the cave, and around the ruins.
  • A very small HUD element, like a north-facing compass, could help navigation a lot.
  • Pressing “Esc” again to resume from pause would feel more natural for keyboard/mouse players.
  • On multi-monitor setups, the cursor is not locked to the game window, which makes camera control difficult.
  • Underwater visuals/texture and a bit of floating physics could add a lot to the feel.
  • Possible bug: in some water/algae areas, the breathing timer starts at 02:59 instead of 01:59.
  • I played the “IslandOfMemoriesV3_linux.zip” version, and I could not toggle hints/maps or some features shown on the intro screen.

Overall, it feels like a good sandbox for future improvements, with a lot of potential for story and exploration.

I liked the aesthetics of the game. The fog is a bit too much, couldn't find the fragments, the whale skeleton was nice touch to the environmental storytelling. Wish it had some music and sfx, it would feel more complete. Good work overall.

It is great to see participants improving the game post jam. I played the game and it looks significantly more polished with music, sfx and UI, I love the overall environment design and the player mechanics, Its not tight but the player does not seem to get stuck in the environment which is good. However, finding the memory papers still seems challenging, I could find upto 3 ones. I would recommend making them moving or catchy to grab player's attention, besides that, I love the overall atmosphere of the game, Nice work on it ! I updated my game as well, If you like the genre, you can check it out.

I'm just not good at finding things. Went thrice over the beautiful tropical jungle island, for half an hour, and found only two memories and a fake one. The first one was easy to find, and with the clue I found the third. I encountered several places which would have been a great hiding place for a memory but there were none.

The idea with the fog is interesting, and the story has potential but searching the whole main island (and some smaller ones) for objects not connected to any prominent feature can become a chore even if you like open worlds as much as me. So I think the environment design was great but the level design was not. I know you are giving clues over time but even then - the size of the level is very large for the task. And many players don't want to wait too long for progression.

I have been accused of making too large levels myself ;-) but I had a detection mechanic which shows when the player is near interesting things. You could implement similar elements.

There was no UI. I would have liked a hint for a button to recall the intro page.

The game is in desperate need of sound: ambient (it's a JUNGLE), background music for the mood and SFX for taking a memory.

Playing with keyboard and mouse, the controls worked flawlessly.

the environment is awesome. the game does not catch the mouse which means if the player has a second monitor next to the primary one, the player could go to the second monitor with the mouse and there the game would not catch the input, which really does not make sense..

some bgm could have added to the game as it would have made it more alive.

the clues are hard to find, but even roaming around was an experience, which is a good sign.

Thanks for your feedback. I haven’t tested the game with two monitors, but in my tests, the mouse worked fine. I focused on making sure the game had a beginning and an end, and I didn’t have time for the music. If the music tracks are what you want to improve, I didn’t have any testers to assess the game’s difficulty; that’s the downside of developing a game on your own. I’m glad to hear you enjoyed the experience of wandering around the island.

I'm gonna be brutally honest with you: opening the game to an AI generated manual that presents features that aren't in the game and wrong controller layouts and then dropping the player into a premade map that is way too big for the little interaction that there are - it was not a good time. I don't mind using premade or AI generated assets but you don't seem to have them under control - which makes the game feel missing direction or intend.

It’s not true that I don’t have control of the scene. I spent a lot of time thinking about where to place the story pieces, planning the final scenario, and creating a short story. It’s true that the scene is large and the gameplay could be improved, but ultimately, this game is like the scavenger hunt we played as kids. I’m just a hobbyist who makes Unity games in my free time. My time is limited; I have family obligations, work, etc. I would have liked to add more to the game, but I couldn’t. I enjoyed doing what you said: “having them under control - which makes the game feel lacking direction or intention.”

Beautiful environment. I think there’s bug that prevents me to turn complete 360 degrees at least on linux with keyboard mouse. Also sound would have made the world livelier. Not sure if it was bug or sound/music was not added. I think clues are hard to find. I couldn’t find one in 2 minutes.

Thank you so much for your comment. I was focused on the mechanics and didn’t have time to add the sound. If you go to the game’s website, there’s a demo video showing two memory chips.
