It's actually infuriating when I spend time and work on a project while other people give chatgpt a simple prompt and they're done. It takes the fun out of game jams. Why is ai allowed? The point of game jams is to MAKE games about a certain theme and try to place high, with ai doing all the work it takes the whole point of game  jams away.

Way agree. We’re here to show off our game dev skills, and share pointers or criticism with other devs. When all they did is push a button, what feedback can we even give? “Push harder”?

If an AI game gets to top 15, this would be an insult in the face of people trying and doing to make a game jam.

How can newbie game dev, doing it the fair way, stick to the hobby seeing people burning tokens just to pollute submissions with soulless stuff ?

Even if AI is allowed, you should just use it to create the game icon. 🎨 Don't use it for the whole game—show off your own skills! 💻🚀

I think AI can be helpful (sometimes) as a tool for indie devs, for example I used eleven labs for the Knights Delivery Service which advertises as AI text to speech for my game, If I didnt I would have had to pay over $300 for the minimal voice lines my game has. Of course I hate when people just 1 prompt games and dont care about the quality of the game they ship. But in the indie dev community AI like  text to speech will help devs polish games without a huge budget/help us compete with bigger studios. 

Some thoughts: I do think in MOST cases and Game Jams AI needs to be avoided as you cant expect to hit quality for a game, but sadly we will see this exponentially increase as AI advances. But I would also agree seeing these games where people just push a button sucks and is always a waste of time when I go to play it. 

Just wanted to show people that in the cases of text so speech advancing and not sounding so robotic like this can be helpful. So if we limit AI please keep it to art/asset generation/game logic/code for future jams. 

Even though I used Ai for some parts of coding, I spend my time too doing trial and error, if you're saying FULLY PROMPTED AI GAMES I agree with you
