anyone else struggling to get the game to open on mac

Same issue here!

me too!!

Hello! Could you let us know what happens when you try to open the game, and whether you are using an Intel Mac or a M1/M2/etc Mac? Thank you! :)

sorry for the late reply, i have an M2. at first it tells me the game might not be free of malware, but pretty much anything downloaded on mac makes that message appear so I give it permission to open from privacy and security in system prefs and it opens. However, if I try to open it after this, the best I can describe it is nothing happens at all. Usually the game icon will show up on the bottom bar, and there is some movement, but I don't see the icon. There's no message or anything indicating any issue. it just doesn't open.

Heyy, I'm on the Mac and have also faced this problem. Luckily, I've found a way to get in the game (for now). First, in the game folder, right-click on the .app file (the one with the Ren'Py app icon) and press 'Show package contents'. Go to the 'Contents' folder, then 'MacOS', and finally run the executable file titled 'WHODUNNIT'. Hope this helps!

oh my god it worked thank you so much!!!!

I have the same issue here, on an M1 Mac. Cloverspear's solution worked like a charm, but it's still worth reporting.

I found that if you actually download the itch.io LAUNCHER rather than the game itself, and then run it from the launcher, it seems to work ok. But yeah... the thing just won't really open by itself it seems..

Sorry you guys are having trouble with Mac! There isn't a whole lot we can do, as this is because of how Mac treats Ren'py projects, and we don't have a Mac to test with to try to tamper with the way the app gets bundled. We would if we could!
