Congrats on getting first place!! This was an awesome game made by a great team. Would definitely make for a sick portfolio piece ngl
Wow! Just... wow. Fantastic game. It took me three hours to find all 26 bolts! It's a little rough around the edges, but this is a really solid and fun 3D platformer! It reminds me of early 3D platformers like Battle for Bikini Bottom and the Pac World games. Absolutely insane that you guys pulled this off in a two week game jam.
If I had any one complaint from a gameplay perspective, it's how difficult it was to pinpoint the last 4 or so bolts.
I'm hesitant to name specific bolts, but there were a few that were hidden enough that I kinda just had to stumble upon them after traversing an area 5 or 6 times... The world's big enough and complex enough that it would be nice if there was some sort of area separation or something. Kind of like the obelisks in "The Witness" which indicated collection progress within a general part of the map. Just a sign at the start of each of the three main areas indicating how many bolts are left would do. Or you could go the Nintendo route and have some sort of hotter or colder system (e.g. korok mask), but that feels like it helps too much if you ask me. I also think this problem is exacerbated by the camera being so close to first person. The player can see less of the world at once, so it is harder to find things hidden around corners and the like.
I really love the music, and they really fit each individual part of the game. However, I'm not sure changing the music based on which way the player is facing was a good idea... I think you were going for serene moments of quiet, and sometimes that worked, but sometimes it instead disengaged me from the game because the change from music to quiet and back to music again was too abrupt. This is a very hard thing to get right, especially in a 3d game with a lot of vertical movement, so kudos to you for trying! However, I also wanted to give my honest thoughts on the matter.
Sorry my criticisms are longer than my praises lol, I really do think this is the best and most ambitious game of the jam! Great job y'all, you should be proud.
Hey! Thank you for your review! Were you able touse the scroll wheel to change the distance of the camera from the player?
Weird, yes that works, interestingly it never even crossed my mind to do so. I've played a lot of games throughout my life, it's really surprising to me that doing that didn't even occur to me. I guess it just felt like a game that would have a fixed camera distance....? Not really sure why.
Incomprehensible that you guys did this in two weeks, Bravo! The music is a vibe, the atmosphere is great, and the controls are so smooth! All the robots are so derpy and cute, I love it!
I love the art and music. Took me a while of messing around to figure out how to play so a controls screen would be helpful. But I love this. This is so well done. I will play more and figure out more as I go
Is this inspired by Space Station Silicon Valley??? :0
First off I have to complain that there's no Linux build, I had to run it through wine which is annoying. But anyways.
Oh man, this is so so cool!! I love it!!! It's absolutely gorgeous and super fun. The low-poly models and heavily dithered textures are a perfect match for the world's grungy aesthetic. The music is great too. All the robots are cool and fun to play around with.
My only complaint is that I did encounter some bugs. When I first started the game, I blew up the wall with the bomb robot, but somehow I died and was sent to a checkpoint I had never touched, which I was very confused by. I ended up resetting my save and it worked fine the next time.
I would occasionally have trouble moving on slopes or get caught on walls when falling. I also managed to get softlocked in a little crevasse in the terrain (but I could just return to checkpoint from the menu so I was fine)
But regardless this is super impressive, great job to everyone that made this happen!!! I definitely want to collect all the thingies after I've played the other jam games. It would be awesome to see this game expanded in some way. I want to know more about this world and its characters!
Thank you for your review! The Checkpoint issue has been a major known bug since the end of the jam. The issue with not going back to the right checkpoint will be fixed in the next patch, hopefully releasing at sunrise today. Also, partial controller support (non ui) will be added.
thanks for the review! also yes it was inspired by space station silicon valley :)
This game is absolutely incredible and I really hope you guys win the jam. The presentation is fantastic, and the gritty, industrial desert vibe was done really well. The movement felt super satisfying, and I love all the different bot types.
I did manage to climb up different walls I was probably not supposed to by spamming jump at certain angles and positions. But I felt big brain doing that so it was great.
Anyways, excellent work! I can tell lots of people put a lot of work into this and it shows :)
