I tried walking south and went out of the castle... I went south a few more steps and then was taken into combat with a rat and a green slime... the battle went on way too long. Mostly we were just missing attacking each other. Eventually I died. The game could have promise but I think it needs some balancing.
I enjoyed the music
This is such a great recreation of Dragon Quest 1, the exploration is just as fantastic. After digging a hidden chest with 40 extra gold pieces I just bought a Steel Sword and might be ready this time to enter the dungeon under the lonely mountain in the desert again, probably after visiting the town across the desert which I've heard of but haven't visited yet. Thanks for sharing!

It seems like a really fun JRPG; unfortunately, having to refresh the page to try again after dying discouraged me a bit, but the whole setting immediately captivated me.

Though the fights are unbalanced, the first enemy was so powerful! When i missed it three times and failed to run 2 times. That could be improved.

I was able to get a lot farther in the game and it was really great, definitely my favorite thing I've played in this jam. I was actually starting to forget how much I enjoyed classic RPG's before I found. I keep dying in the final dungeon though, even at max level with steel equipment and the Antifire potion, I just can't find the right path before I get overwhelmed with monsters. I'll keep trying but it's a struggle. I absolutely love everything besides that.
wow, thank you for playing the game so much! i had a lot of trouble balancing the final dungeon, so here's a map of the first few floors to help. (let's pretend it's from an issue of nintendo power!)
That really helps, I was able to get the light essence. Now I just need to figure out where I'm supposed to use this key and then hopefully I can finally lift the curse.
Cool rpg! felt that I had to discover my way around the game like Dragon quest and ultima 1. I also made a rpg and I feel you done many things better than me, great job, will surely come back complete the game!
