Bro went CRAZY juicing it up in here!
* It looks cool but definitely some of this isn't possible for NES. The shadows on the sprites are a REALLY nice looking touch but that kind of alpha isn't possible, and there are copious sprite rotations that aren't doable.
* The screenshake IS possible but like MAN is it heavy, every little enemy causes a MASSIVE shake, it neuters the impactful feeling for the bigger guys on top of being a bit disorienting
* The camera also seemed to move around like CRAZY, it did make me a little motion sick. I appreciate look ahead cameras but it flipped VERY far VERY quickly. I also think the constant lerping every time you stop also contributes to the sickness. I think a frame to activate the camera would have probably gone a long way
* Some sfx were missing, mostly hits. There's screenshake on many hits but no accompanying noise to tie it together, it almost makes things like killing the green miniboss anticlimactic in spite of all the juice.
* I wanna say I do really like the aesthetic, the characters/enemies all look GREAT
* I love the core gameplay, the gliding is very fun and there are some really standout moments like the mob chasing and of course Mr. Sun. Also just a good idea for a boss fight all around
* Music was great, nuff said
* Little disappointed when I figured out "extra challenge" was not an actual secret level but just a self-imposed challenge to not use health pickups basically lol
Great entry overall, EXTREMELY polished, maybe TOO polished for an NES game, but great game nonetheless!
Thank you so much for the detailed review! I appreciate that you took the time to give me such a thoughtful response. Thanks for playing!
I wanted to keep my love but I needed the blood. Sorry, grandma! Cool trade-off mechanic, and glidingfeels really good. The background art seems kind of unfinished but the monster sprites are very good. I wish I could draw such cool ghosts. I also really, really like the visual design of the HUD at the top? One part I'd suggest a bit of polishing for is the hit detection, which felt a bit off sometimes. Also, I don't like to use "up" to jump, so I was glad to discover you made an input menu. I put jumping on x and interact on up, which feels more natural to me. Anyway, good job.
Thanks I appreciate the in depth feedback. I’m glad you enjoyed the game!
I really like bossfights and boss designs in this game! Platforming is great such as the art. Nailed nes feel
Thanks a bunch!
Love the character and level design in this. So creative!
Thanks!
The Sun final boss was so clever and fun to fight against! Great game.
Thanks for the kind words!
I completed all the levels without eating a civilian.
The game is amazing, 100% NES-style plateformer. It looks super great and sounds even better, controls feel super good and the level design and difficulty are perfect too.
Thanks for sharing!
Dang... Great Job! I appreciate the kind words. Thanks for playing!
a good game where nobody has to die!
also the music is beautiful
I appreciate it!
I really enjoyed your game. I the idea of the extra challenge with the love hearts its genious!!. The first level was the one for me. I have to try many times in order to make the challenge. Also, the things that makes you damage are on point!! very vampiric themed game. Congratulations, specially on the idea of that final boss
Thanks for playing, and for the kind words!
Really fun gameplay built around an original two-health-bar mechanic. The music fits the game perfectly, and the sound effects are fantastic. The game feels well balanced overall. It's a 5/5 for me ! :)
I really appreciate it! Thanks for playing glad you enjoyed it
loved the style of graphics, the subtle drop shadow on the main character was a nice touch that did a lot
really nice art direction and music was jammin!
i also thought the choose-your-own difficulty with the Love heal system was genius. Great job!
I really appreciate the feedback! I’m glad you liked it.
good game!
Thanks for playin!
Not bad.
Indeed the jump doesn't feel nice, the NES controller was 4 way, so it was not possible to keep up and go right and left, that's why most Mario-like games mapped the jump on A, only games like Castlevania use A and B for attacks and has the jump on UP and it's go straight up.Edit: it was possible to press UP and RIGHT, it was just uncomfortable and not considered by most games (but Gradius was 8 way).
Thanks for letting me know! You can change the controls in the pause menu if that helps
What a fun game full of cool character designs, which is what makes it so valuable. Who would have thought the final boss would be the sun? Brilliant! Definitely nothing to complain about, maybe just more sound feedback and less camera shake in the final boss scene.
Thanks for playing! I appreciate the feedback. I wish I could of got some more sounds in but ran outta time
Just jump and glide feels great, but I wish the jump button weren't up!
Thanks for the feedback! You can change the controls in the pause menu if that helps
Yes, that helps a lot! Thanks
Looks and plays great! Really loved the detail of character shadows appearing on background tiles, reminds me of Mario Maker! If I had one criticism, it would be the lack of sound effects
Thanks for playing! I appreciate the feedback.
